  Yes, you can in a Storage VMotion to one Esxi to another with no shared storage...

  It is important the portgroup bears the same name... This is the reference for the VM...

• Private network between hosts in different regions

  Dear guys,

  I have just asked me if it would be possible that 2 hosts in different regions (EU-NA) can communicate on a virtual private network over the Wan.

  How to perform I thought to arrive at:

  -import the host NA in a cluster in the EU vcenter

  -create a tmp DVS and attach 2 guests to the DVS

  -create a private VLAN GP and configure 2 virtual machines with this PG = > they just have to communicate with each other, this is just a test

  The question I have is this: given that the 2 hosts are in different regions, traffic of 2 VMs would go across the WAN using the DVS even?

  I thought on it and it is not possible, DVS and a dummy network, we have L2 and we have no tools for the encapsulation of L2 to L3, I have no NSX.

• VMotion between 2 Hosts with different processors

  Hallo,

  I have a server in my homelab I use for studies of VMsphere and I want to get a second machine to test advanced features such as HA, Vmotion etc.

  My first server has a map of X9SCM-9 with processor Xeon E3-1230V2 (Ivy Bridge). I am currently running ESX 5.0 U2 on it.

  I was counting on obtaining of material quality for the second host consumers because I don't want to spend a lot on it, so I thought that I need any CPU generation Ivy Bridge.

  I tested today with a second machine with a Pentium G2020 Ivy Bridge, but when I try to Vmotion he says "the virtual machine requires physical features that are not available or disabled on the host... ».

  So I figure there must be a difference in architecture regardless of the CPU beeing an Ivy Bridge CPU.

  When I try to activate CVS it just me are going to the 'Nehalem' Version so my virtual machines running on host 1 would not be able to use all the features of the CPU since the Xeon.

  So the question boils down to: what is the processor less which offer compatibility VCA L5?

  Or is there something else to consider in VMotion between two hosts with different processors?

  I got a shared storage, etc. of the same network configuration.

  Hi Benjamin,

  For compatibility VCA L5 want to look at one of the following models, Intel CPU:

  • Ivy Bridge: Series E3-1200-v2
  • HASWELL

  I would recommend mental health that before rushing and a CPU purchase, check if a cheaper option would be, as Jon mentions in suppresss some fo the CPU compatibility checks so obviously, this is not desirable in a production environment, and must be applied in your study of VMware Lab to the home address.

  Before you start, I'm a network engineer, not a server guru, please bare with me

  Is it possible to vMotion a virtual machine to a host on an IP network to another host, on a different IP network?

  Example:

  Data Center 1 - 10.1.1.1/24 with VM in the 10.1.2.0/24 ESX Server

  Same city, different site, binding fiber 10 GB between facilities 2ms latency

  Data Center 2 - 10.2.1.1/24 in the 10.2.2.0/24 with VM ESX Server

  Scenario:

  vMotion a computer virtual network 10.1.2.0/24 to the 10.2.2.0/24 network where virtual machine, on arrival on the ESX 2 data center server, now uses a IP address of 10.2.2.0/24.

  Any guidance towards a white paper or a guide would be greatly appreciated.

  vMotion is possible between hosts on different subnets, but unless your discussions presented to the virtual machines are on the same subnet, you will eventually drop the virtual machine on a VLAN different and IP addressing will fail.

  There are ways around this, you could script the change of IP address / present several IP addresses of the virtual machine / or reservations DHCP to use, but you will need to ensure DNS etc. records are updated.

  If you have some kind of load balancer, you could in theory balance workloads on 2 IPs hosted on the same VM, to solve the network ip address issues, although in the end, you'll want a VLAN tended to port VM coverage groups.

  My BIEE installation is 11.1.1.7 and SMTP server configured in EM. I put the root CA for SSL certificate file.

  You are right. For the security certificate should be identical to the host. But the smtp server is not placed under the responsibility of us. I modified the file hosts as a workaround. I can't find any biee configuration option to ignore the incompatibility.

  I have a new installation of vRA 7 that has been installed with auto-signer certs and now when trying to replace all the self-signed with signed certs I got an error that I can't solve.  Tab approved of the coffee machine under manage IaaS component certificates I see the error "host remote servername certificate is different from the registered certificate Web GOES.

  The display name is the individual host and not the VIP that is displayed for the rest.  I imported, provided the digital footprint and generated new cert in a attempt to try to get the values to change, but so far neither matrix.  I think the value is defined in the postgres DB and who could not get updated with the change of certificate.  The certificate is for the IaaS Web.

  Someone at - it ideas how to update or possibly if needed update the database table.

  Someone at - he seen elsewhere and have a fix?

  VRA 7 is a new feature that IAAS certificates can be registered automatically by the VAMI. This does work for me at all. When I imported the certificate into the VAMI, I got an error when he failed to change the binding of IIS. When I tried to give the impression he has failed and was told that the footprint is not found in the store.

  Depends entirely on the use case.

  • 2 MS SQL nodes on the same host to see the availability of the software
  • 2 nodes on different hosts to see the availability of the equipment

  I'd say MS Clusters on the same host (at the time of HA and vSMP FT) are redundant VMware features and represent an increase in management fees. The MS cluster on hosts provide something in addition to what VMware vSphere alone can provide!

  Yes, it is possible and taken in charge. You just give the WWN name to your team of enterprise storage, they present your recan your storage adapers (or possibly restart), storage, add storage and to define your strategy for creating paths to each LUN.

  We do now because we are in the middle of a SAN migration.

  I have several external hard drives with a Mac OS different on each connected to my Mac desktop to emulate environments with my clients.  My internal HD is running 10.7.5, and I have a 2 TB with Mountain Lion installed external HD.  I would like to know how to install the Adobe applications in each environment.  Because I can never run multiple instances of the operating system at the same time, I can't be in violation of the EULA, ergo I think I should be able to install Adobe software on any of these HDs ext with only one license.

  You can install a million times until you bleed your ears, but you can never activate 2 installs with a single license. Do not hesitate to turn on and off according to your needs.

  I understand that VMOTION = migration hot virtual machines on esx hosts. So, if HA uses VMOTION, how HA restarts VMs on another esx host when the original, we're out of service?

  I guess it will take to create an another vm on the available host using the same on the san .vmx file?

  IF we were to do it manually, it will be just import a virtual machine to another host on the right?

  VMotion and HA are not related or dependent on each other.

  (1) again, this works because the virtual machines themselves live on storage shared and not bound to a specific host ESX (i). ESX implements non-persistent locks on a specific virtual machine, when the host goes down, these locks will eventually timeout. HA will launch the failover, allowing it to reregister the VMs failed and restart. Manually, you can walk through this process by the presence of a virtual machine that lives on the shared storage that runs on HostA, then it turned off and cancel the registration of the virtual machine. You would be so I re-register on HostB and turn on, and voila, you've just simulated a ghettoHA.

  (2) vMotion as you know already, performs a live migration of a virtual computer between two hosts, where as HA you will get some downtime of the virtual machine while it is rescued. The key is HA doesn't provide true high availability, it's just faster to recover.
