  • How to run Windows update for Win XP SP3 using Firefox

My desktop PC computer running windows XP with SP3. My spouse uses IE 8 for its browser. I use Firefox Version 24. for my browser. Previously, whenever we ran MS or Windows update it starts IE and works very well. IE 8 blew up and does more (execution errors). I tried to go to the site to update Windows using Firefox and he came back and told me that I had to use IE to launch Win update on an XP system. Is this true? I don't want to use IE at all. Is it possible to use Firefox to run Windows or MS update on my Win XP system? Thank you.

You cannot run windows update using Firefox because it uses controls ActiveX Firefox is not (and will never). Yes, then unfortunately use IE for Windows update.

  • Windows Update for powerpoint viewer wil not install - error code 0 x 4397

    Any suggestions?

It will probably not install because most likely the update is looking for the original source.

As this is a security for the 2003 Viewer update, why not get rid of it all together and download the new version-

Where can I order the CD Update for win 7 from the Toshiba site. Thank you

    Hello

You cannot order this disk from Toshiba.
You can order just a recovery disk. But if you laptop came with Vista, then the recovery disk contains the Vista OS and not Win 7.

If you want to use Win 7, you can buy this OS and then you could install it on the laptop. Win 7 drivers should be available on the European driver page

  • CPU ankles 95-99% stuck on svchost.exe after that Windows update Nov 12 patches to not install

Automatic update of Windows was put on 'On' on the morning of November 13, 2013, when I received the notice of Microsoft system tray that updates of Windows patches were ready to be installed on my computer (XP sp3, IE8, MSE).

Updates proceeds to installation with the updated bars before the normal close.

Updates is apparently blocked at the first update. I let it run for about 15 minutes before I made a hard stop. I thought that maybe I had lost to the Internet because the update seemed stuck on the first and took too much time, it seemed.

Next start, computer slows almost stopped after a few minutes.

Guilty is svchost.exe SYSTEM alternating between 95 and 99% of my system resources. I turn it off and computer returned to normal.

Has done research on the web, stop automatic updates and processor svchost problem disappeared, unless I went to Microsoft updates and svchost.exe Web page re - would seem to consume almost all of the CPU resources while bars update Microsoft constantly scanned my system for the latest upgrades necessary.

Spending a day to try various fixes posted on the internet. A Microsoft Fixit said that he there had errors in the update and fixed all but one saying registration number was bad (said he couldn't fix that). Despite everything, still the same problem.

On the same day, an error was unable to update the definitions of virus on MSE, but for some reason, the next day (14) updated crossed.

Update: some progress: I leave svchost cogitate on the webpage update from Ms. After about 1/2 hour, the updated hotfix list showed. I tried to install it, but not updates managed to install. I am currently re - try, as suggested on the Web page.

Also tried the command "net stop" method mentioned in several places, as a tool of Malewarebytes Anti-Root running. Nothing.

Tried the fix for IE8 security as suggested, nothing.

Tried system restore, but I must have something wrongly configured with it because it was not able to restore any earlier date, I took. Bad luck.

Never had a big problem with my set-up in all the years I've been running XP sp3, until now.

Next thing I'll try is Park on the side of Windows Update for an hour or two, with the idea that maybe my processor is in need of more time to digest something.

I see that others have had this problem, but not necessarily with patch release on November 12.

UPDATE: some progress, perhaps. 1/2 hour parked page update of Windows, with SVChost churning away, and I got a list of patches. I tried to install, but all of them failed to install. I try a re - install, as suggested.

Let me propose a summary of how to fix the MSE / Windows Update problem and the svchost problem:

1st thing to do is to disable the automatic updates window. This will keep your computer against svchost.exe freeze for now.

2nd, follow the instructions in Xircal to check that you have "BITS" listed in your list of "services". Correct it if not.

3rd, IE remove it from your list of programs, and then reinstall it, making your first update of the IE rollup, as suggested previously.

That he "should" do and you can activate the automatic updates on svchost.exe should return to normal. Proceed with the update of Windows and MSE as usual.

  • Update error configuration Windows Updates... Do not turn off your computer. This is immediately followed by the default configuration of the Windows updates. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer.

    OT: Windows Update failure 8.

I recently re-installed Windows 8 using an old product key once I updated my PC using Windows 7 due to failure to boot Windows Technical Preview. The installation went smoothly, but when installation is finished, he told me that I had installed updates, for the most updated security. I installed them and restarting my PC, he has said configuration Windows Updates... Do not turn off your computer. It is immediately followed by updates default Windows configuration . Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer. It accomplishes this task for like 10-15 minutes and then finally starts. Once my PC starts, this cycle starts again. So far, happened 4 times.

Could someone please fix this? I want to update to Windows 8.1, but could end up, I'm stuck with Windows 8. (Also, why download from the store disappeared? "I'm not using a RT system).

  • "failed to set up the windows updates. returning from changes. do not turn off your computer.

    Hello

I get this error "failed to configure windows updates. returning from changes. do not turn off your computer. The computer is a Samsung Ativ tab 5 and I got it for a little over a week.
I have updated with the SW update
The results of the troubleshooting online are:
    Problems encountered:
Recent updates - not fixed installation problems
Search for missing or corrupted - files detected
Some security settings are missing or have been modified - fixed
Registration for the service is missing or corrupt - fixed
    Windows Update error 0 x 80070490 (2014-02-10-t-11_25_11A) - fixed

I have been through ALL the steps as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358. I have had no success.
One thing that bothers me, is in the configuration of the system, I have a service called true vector Internet Monitor (Zone Alarm) and when the value disable as in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135, it is the only service still running when you perform a clean restart. I don't know if this affects the Automatic Updates/configuration or not.

    Hello

Thanks for trying to help. Now my computer seems to be up-to-date.
I followed your steps but MicrosoftFixit50202.msi did not like "my OS is incompatible. I use windows 8.  I couldn't run this in default or aggressive.
I did go in Control Panel and disable antivirus and firewall Zone Alarm and reset Windows defender by default.
I did IE default web browser I have prob changed when I got to the computer.
I then returned to set up a clean boot and this time I managed to disable the true vector Internet Monitor (Zone Alarm) to run.
I ran the reset troubleshooting of Windows with the same result as before is to say:
Recent updates - not fixed installation problems
Search for missing or corrupted - files detected
I think I have restarted my computer at this stage and then tried to update again.
It has not yet, but with the error, I got an error code and a link to help. I don't have not noticed this before. I followed the help and ran about 5 command prompts that have to do with the renaming of files I think.
Then I tried updating again and this time 38 45 updates succeeded. I then ran the update again and it seemed to work on the other 7 updates.
Although Windows Update said I was now updated, I was skeptical as when this whole thing started is started when I got the "windows installs updates" and then "failed to configure updates. Returning... etc"then I restarted my computer. At the start, there was no message on try to configure the updates, then, how do I know they are configured and working as it should?
    Thank you.
