Hidden on Macintosh HD storage

Hi all

My computer says I have 34,83 GB of free space of 120 GB. MacBook air OX S10.10.5.

I checked where is the large files and it seems like it's in "dana david" - 52,19 GB.

Inside the directory I've sorted by size and there are only 3 directories that are between 1MB - 10 GB.

I checked each directory:

Documents - 407 MB

Music - 1.69 GB

Choose - 5.97 GB

My question is where is 40 GB + -?

Thank you.

Follow these steps, while on the desktop, hold down the Option key

and select the menu go to, and then select library. In the Finder window that

appears, select the library folder and do a Get Info.

There are a lot of items stored in the folder library in particular is

your mailboxes. If you have kept a lot of mail with a lot of "big enough."

attachments, this could rise to quite a number.

There are also many other applications that store data he can keep counting to

a large amount of data (usually in the containers or Application Support folder).

It is also the location of the cache of Safari and the iCloud drive.

    Hello

I make the unattend file (excutable) to control the spectrometer in the developer's computer, but in the other pc. I made one independent and one for run-time machine to run the file in another computer that does not have the driver of the spectrometer and labview software. Once I did an exe.file in the developer's pc and ran the exe in the other pc, but it does not recognize the spectrometer. The driver is provided by the manufacturer using the file wrapper.dll and dll. So I chose the option "supplement directory" for coying of dll files and dependencies. I did a file that allows you to control the spectrometer using the VI (support of manufacturing). And I add the file in the project file. The project tree shows the dependecy and VI that I selected from the Wrapper.llb file. I moved the vi all always included except the leader (start-up) who call these sub VI. This works well in the developer's computer. But it does not work in the other pc. I guess that the reasons are as follows. 1. I missed the installer some additional (run-time machine, or other) 2. I have to choose another option to generate the exe file? Please let me know.

Driver files must register in the system (unless they are RS - 232 drivers).

USB in Windows drivers are normally the drivers in kernel mode which means that your approach will simply not work.

Exceptions are HIDDEN, etc. of mass storage. Spectrometers certainly do NOT belong to these classes.

If you look closely at the screenshot above, you can see a small white-with-gray-striped section. This is what Apple calls Purgeable, and it indicates that these are really old files that you possibly can archive, save it in the cloud or delete to free up storage space.

  • Incorrect storage info - yet I've not solved!

    Hello!

I had this problem for some time.

"In"about this Mac"-" storage "", he says I have 77 free GB to 999 GB. " This is not correct, for if I click on "go" in the top menu of Apple, then "computer", the Macintosh HD said 922GB, but the individual files added without even adding up to 500 GB. This means that the storage news are about 500 GB of evil!

However the Macintosh HD 2 (my drive to another internal), seems to show the correct numbers, but my main drive is waaayy off.

I had this problem a few months back and I want to fix now because my Time Machine backups do not work properly from the computer think there is not enough space to copy on.

    ----------------------------------------------

    What I've tried so far.

I tried to re-indexing of spotlight with various techniques, also in the Spotlight menu in the preferences and the inside of the Terminal (here, I typed "sudo mdutil EI / '), but it doesn't seem to work.

I think there is something wrong with the Time Machine, that perhaps it adds information file upp to the essential motivation or something (idk?).

Can someone help me with this problem please? I would be very grateful!

Because now I can't back up my computer properly and it was a while since I did

BTW, I use OSX El Capitan version 10.11.3, Mac Server minin (end of 2012).

  • password storage

    Hi all

Weird question that happened a few weeks back. On a few sites I just save my password in firefox as not really worried for the security being the site it is.

in any case, I noticed a few weeks ago the storage of the password no longer works on the main log in page for the site. The list of IDS is out of order compared to the command he use to list my ID in and when I select an ID it leaves the empty password field where it would insert as before the password as usual.

I noticed that it is ONLY on this main because of the page log if I put my ID in and leave the field blank password it takes me to a log error details page and on this page of the newspaper in the works as it should in good condition ID and password is inserted properly.

This only happens on this one page and not elsewhere.

This is probably a specific Web site issue where it is a problem on their Web site or is it a problem with Firefox where it went wrong for that one site? If Yes is there a way to fix this without having to go back and redo all my passwords for this site that I have a few accounts because of the nature of the site.

    Thank you

Try to remove the stored passwords and let Firefox save once more.

  • How are they managing storage Flash on my Macbook Pro?

Hello, I have storage problems with my macbook pro, simply because I miss. I went through and eliminated a lot of my videos and photos because that's mainly what I use this for, but my storage is full. How to clear up the flash storage?

For the other category in the display of information storage, see this support article. If the display appears to be inaccurate, try to rebuild the Spotlight index of the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name.)

Empty the trash if you don't have it already done. If you use iPhoto, emptying his trash internal everything first:

    ▹ iPhoto empty the trash

    In pictures:

▹ Show of the recently deleted ▹ file delete all

Do the same thing in other applications like Aperture, with an internal feature of the trash. Then, restart the computer. Temporarily, which will free up space.

According to the documentation from Apple, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the boot volume (as shown in the Infolog) for normal operation, not the mythical 10%, 15% or any percentage. You also need enough space to allow the growth of the data over. There is little or no advantage in terms of performance to get more free space than the minimum Apple recommends. Storage space you'll never use is wasted space.

When Time Machine backs up a Mac laptop, some free space will be used to make a snapshots the, who are backups of deleted files recently. The space occupied by the local snapshots is declared as available by the Finder and should be considered as such. In the view of storage of the information system, snapshots appear them as backups. The snapshots are deleted automatically when they expire or when free space becomes less than a certain level. You don't need to usually and should not, remove snapshots them yourself. If you have followed the bad advice to disable snapshots the running a shell command, you may have ended up with a large amount of data in the other category. Ask for instructions in this case.

See this support article for some easy ways to free up storage space. A common waste of space is old backups iTunes to mobile devices. As shown in this support article, select the devices tab in the iTunes preferences window, select the backup that you want to remove and click on delete the backups. Keep at least a backup of each device you use yet.

You can, if you wish, use a tool such OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and discover what is take up space. You can also delete files with it, but not unless you don't know you know what you remove and that all data is stored safely. This means that you have several backups, not one. Note that the ODS only works with OS X 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") and later versions.

IMPORTANT: This comment is neither a recommendation nor an endorsement of any third party software. You should always do your own research to determine if the unknown software is safe and useful. Don't take the word of anyone, including mine.

Deletion of files inside a photo library or iTunes will damage the library. Such a library should be changed within the application that created it. It is the same for e-mail files.

Go further than if the problem is not resolved by the steps above.

ODS cannot see the whole file system when you run simply by double-clicking; He sees only the files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you must run it as root.

Back up all the data now.

Install the application in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it runs.

Triple-click any where in the text line below on this page to select, then copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing command + V. You will be asked for your login password.

The application window opens behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will finally show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.

I do not recommend that you make a habit of doing. Do not delete anything as root. If something should be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then remove by safer alternatives. If in doubt, leave it alone or ask for advice.

When you are finished with the app, he quit and also to leave Terminal.

  • ICloud invisible storage

Recently, I have damaged my iPhone and received a replacement by AppleCare. I restored from backup to iCloud and everything was fine. Now that I had restored I deleted the backup to recover space. The backup has disappeared, but the storage was still busy. If I go to "manage the storage" files add up to 2.5 GB. However, it is said that I only have 200 MB remaining. I should have at least 2 GB. It's like the never deleted backup. How can I delete the hidden file?

  • My MBP with retina display has no top file, but storage information still show a lot of memory being exhausted by audio, photos and movies.

Recently, my MacBook Pro with retina display has started to run out of memory, so I moved all my downloads and stuff in my external hard drive. After the transfer, I had some good 20 GBs free and my folder all my files to completely empty.

But even now when I go into storage under the about this Mac information, it shows that more 1 GB of audio files, about 800 MB of photos and 500 MB of movies.

Using the search option (and put a black space in the search bar), I discovered a few files in the Mac section, but they were barely a few MBs in size, and no audio or images or movies were present there.

Where are all these "hidden audio, photographs and films that take about 3 GB of space from my hard drive? I am naïve.

This view will be incorrect until the Spotlight indexing your drive. In addition, it is only an effort to classify the files types are known by their file extension. Thousands of files on the computer, however, will only be classified as 'Other' because they did not have a type that falls into one of five or six available categories. If you want an accurate display of disk space then: press command-I to open the window read the information. In the top panel is a visualization of the status of your drive: capacity, used and available. It's everything you need to know. • Settings > use giving title improper storage

I sometimes save Instagram images in the Photos app. Recently, I deleted all the images in the Photos app after transfer them to my mac.

However, I just got an alert on this iPad saying that storage was almost full, with a link to the section use of parameters.

I just checked the pictures, and there are only two images in there. The camera app shows the same thing.

However, the settings > general > storage & use said Photos & camera take up to 3.3 GB on iPad!

What could be the cause of this disagreement between the parameters and the number of photos in the Photos app? Could there be any hidden files or or some other corruption? Thank you.

When you delete images in the Photos they are actually moved to recently deleted named special album. Images go home for 30 days, just in case you change your mind.

Switch your view Albums, open the recently deleted, and select delete all.

  • Cannot take pictures iPhone 5s and hidden folders

Husband has iPhone 5s, and it cannot take any more pictures with a storage in full. Sometimes he wanted to completely import/erase photos off phone, sometimes import but not erase. Apparently (according to iTunes when connected), it has an insane amount of photos stored on the phone SOMEWHERE, but his camera is COMPLETELY EMPTY! When you connect to the computer again, and she asks if we want to import photos, we say Yes (just for fun now), and he says there is still no new pictures to import. (for a good reason because he can't take pictures and the film file is empty).

How to access or import these photos hidden this iTunes dashboard says that he has, then he can use his camera again? They must be stored somewhere on the motherboard right? BTW his iPhone isn't a year old, but either. Never had this problem before with sound or all other iPhones, so we are baffled. It won't restore to factory settings due to other information that he does not want to lose in the process, even if we backed the phone up to iCloud and computer via iTunes. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE? DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

    Thank you!
