  • How do I know what VMs running on an ESX host, at a given time?

Is it possible to see running virtual machines on an ESX host at some point? We had a problem yesterday and I'd like to see what virtual machines have been affected by this problem.

Since they have all been migrated around the cluster, I would like to know if there is an easy way to find this information somewhere. The host had to be removed from the cluster and readded later.

You could highlight the container that VMS are in, and then select 'Tasks and events' (CTRL-SHIFT-E) to see the events of migration, but this will be a very manual process.

  • Can be completely protected from infecting your host PC if you are running in a virtual machine?

I would like to know if you can run a virtual machine and keep the invincible host against malware. What are the best practices to configure such an environment? How to share data between the host and the virtual machines and still stay safe?

Nope, it will be some protection for your host PC, but not a complete protection.  Many viruses can travel on a local network and infect "nearby" machines and your host would be a.  You must use the same computer security practices in a virtual machine as you would in a real machine.

First line (vim - cmd hostsvc/net/dns_info) would get only the host name, while the second line would be the main task of chaning the host name.

Once you run the second line, just select another item in the client vSphere (such as data store) and then check back the "and DNS routing, so it'll be Refresh display data (for me, it automatically displays the changes).

  • To determine if a form using the command (Unix) HOST of output and a running process.

    Hi all

I know some (little) on the forms. But here, I had a requirement that has been confusing me. The requirement is, we have almost 70 developed custom forms
using TEMPLATE.fmb.Now I have to open each form and check if this form using any HOST (unix) command to exit the shell and
run a process. I never had this type of requirements previously. Can any one help in finding these commands, IE is there any standard to use Unix call in
    specific trigger or etc...

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards
    Gopi.CH

Just search HOST. You do it directly in the generator, using the "find and replace PL/SQL" located in the menu Builder. Exactly where you can find depends on exactly which version of forms you use, but I think that in most of the more recent versions, it's under Edit.

  • running Linux rather than Windows as host

    Hello

I'm trying to start learning of VMware and I wonder which version of the operating system, it is best to run it as a host for VM workstation? Inside of the workstation, I'll run 2 instances of ESXi machines so I'll try to save some resources with Linux. Don't you think it's just if I install Linux instead of Windows 7? I really save you 1 GB of RAM, or not? (theoretically for 64-bit Linux, it's 384-512 MB of RAM and Windows 7, it's nearly 2 GB of RAM)

The bottom line is made the effort running Linux rather than Windows is worthing? Because it's a pain even with Linux.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Catalin

I think that you run your host operating system with what you are comfortable with.  My choice would be Windows 7 x 64.  ESXi running as a virtual machine in my computer would work fine, just follow a few best practices recommendations.

  • ESXi host running 6 VCSA disconnected from the vCenter

    Hi guys,.

I have a weird problem with my vCenter build 6. Single cluster of ESXi hosts. Running VCSA 6.0 and 6.0 ESXI. Making a storage of the vCenter vMotion initially got stuck at 77% and the ESXi host running the disconnected from vCenter vCenter. But I can connect directly to the ESXi host with vsphere client and see the vCenter VM works perfectly well. If I try to manually connect host ESXi and vCenter, I get the error "Failed to contact the host specified") both are in the same subnet and VLAN. I can migrate to other virtual machines without problem. I even restarted the host and yet I am not able to connect to vCenter. The host connects to vCenter if I reboot vCenter, but after a few minutes, disconnects again (even if no task does run on this topic.) I have no HA or DRS enabled at this point that I build this new environment and only presented a single LUN as a store of test data to the cluster.

    Any ideas?

OK, I think I fixed that or have at least a work around. So the underlying question was hiding ID mode/CPU EVC. I'm under the cluster to a level of EVC to reduce until I have migrate workloads from old environment and I think that this created a problem for the unit vCenter. To resolve this problem, I turned off the unit, directly connected to the ESXi host that had the camera running, edited the virtual machine and reset the masking of CPUID. Also, I've hidden the flag NX/XD of the guest. It's temporary (I hope) as once I increase the EVC to the Haswell, I will expose the NX/XD comments and test. For the moment, it is of the workaround I did. It may be of some use to someone.

  • How to get a virtual camera to work? the host is Lenovo W550s running CentOS 7.1, guest is Windows 7 Professional

With VMware Workstation Pro 11 and now 12 never got 'virtual camera' to work.  Do not find documentation, only advice, this should work, exist.

Active host computer is Lenovo W550s running CentOS 7.1.  Camera works very well in host in CentOS in the cheese.  As a removable device, it appears as "Chicony Camera integrated".  But appears later in the guest PC Window 7 Professional.  VMware Tools in the comments are the latest version, now for VMware Workstation Pro 12.

Any chance install USB driver for camera (not found), so not excited to get 'virtual camera' to work.

    Intended use is GoToMeeting.

What happens when you connect the device to the prompt?

    I did a test with my laptop HP - Win7 host - player 12.0

Guest - VMware Tools Win7 updated at the latest.

Built-in laptop webcam shows as a "Webcam Chicony HP HD"

First image - tooltip for the player as I hover.

    Right-click the menu actions.

After selecting the connection (unplug the host)

When the guest saw the unit it is passed to Windows Update to search for a driver... and he did take a few minutes... but he was installing finally successfully.

    Windows features in the comments.

And finally a picture taken with the webcam works inside the guest.

  • Wait for the host disconnects and then run a command

I know the commands to do this, but I need help to write a loop that will test the ip address of the last host management and wait until this station responds to pings.

In my script I have to establish what host will be put off to the end so it's not a problem... How can I keep ping IP management host to die and then run the commands Equallogic?

I hope that I managed to explain to me... I was exploring the Test-Connection cmdlet but it seems that it displays che echo of the ping instead of State... I'm a bit lost around this, can someone help me please?

  • Update / fixes ESXi single host with VCSA running on it.

We have just updated since the free version of ESXi 5 by ordering the Kit of Essentials. In the process, of course, we were able to deploy vCenter Update Manager (which has been the main motivation, like patching manually the free version seemed to be quite a pain). We have a Windows host that has installed the Update Manager, and we have a VCSA running on the single instance of ESXi, we deployed to date. We were able to install the plugin on the viClient and scan the ESXi host for patches with success (a need a good number). But, we're stuck trying to install the patches... us when trying to restore the host, we get: "the operation is not supported on the selected inventory items. Check events for the objects selected for the operation.

    The host says:

The 10.0.1.80 host has a virtual VMware vCenter machine

Device server with VMware vSphere update

Manager or VMware vCenter Server installed. The

Virtual MACHINE needs to be moved to another host for the

    consolidation to proceed.

    Clean up the entity

    10.0.1.80

    root

Looking at this logic, for the host switch to maintenance mode, the VCSA should have been suspended (apparently, actually moved), which would avoid in turn patches / updates to the deployment. Am I correct in thinking, that we have a second host and networked storage? Made a Kit Essentials / license provide for the possibility of vMotion from one host to another? It wasn't really clear... Yes, the web site says "vMotion" is included in most Essentials, but find it me hard to imagine any point to a facility in ESXi stream without the ability to vMotion between one system and another guest...

    Welcome to the community,

And since you have only an ESXi host and your vCSA is running on this host, you cannot patch this host with Update Manager for reason that already know you: the host should be the maintenance mode.

Add about another host, with Kit Essentials without vMotion functionality, you can try using a data store of shared storage between two hosts, stop the vCSA on first host and switch the vCSA on the second host... and finally the first host patch.

  • You will need to run the script for some ESX hosts.

    Dear team,

I m connected to 4 esx host, but I want to run the script only 2 esx host asking you to help me how to do?

    concerning

    Mr. VMware

You could start the script with the cmdlet Get-VMhost to select only the two hosts that you want to output to. For example:

    Get-VMHost host1, host2. Get - VM

Displays only the virtual machine running on host1 and host2.

  • Get the name of the host that a virtual machine is running, rather than the host ID

    Hello

Looking for a little help, I question the result of a get - vm of the. Run to find the name of the host to a virtual machine runs on. All I seem to get is the host id that is a number.

Y at - it an option in the GET - vm, which displays the name of the host, or is it possible to remove the name of the host from the value of the provided host id.

What I want to do is the following:

Enter a name for the virtual machine, hop on the host his race, ask the host for its groups of ports available, introduce an option of these groups of ports and when you enter the name, set the Group of ports of entry. Without the actual host name I can't find it.

$selectedVM = read-host "enter the name of the VM.

    $vm = get - vm $selectedVM | Get-opinion

    $runhost = $vm.runtime.host

    $portgroups = get-virtualportgroup - VMHost $runhost

'Port available to connect groups '.

    $portgroups

$selectedPG = read-host "enter the port group name.

    $netadapters = get-networkadapter - VM $selectedVM

    ForEach ($netadapter to $netadapters)

    {

    all-NIC - NIC NetworkName $netadapter - $selectedPG - StartConnected: $TRUE - confirm: $false

    }

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

    Thank you

    Dan

    Hi Dan,.

You can retrieve the host name by using the Get-VMHost cmdlet

    $selectedVM = read-host "Enter VM Name"
    $vmhost = Get-VMHost -VM (Get-VM -Name $selectedVM) | Select-Object Name
    $runhost = $vmhost.Name

    Hope this helps
