How can I connect my guitar to GarageBand 10.0.3?

Any discussion that I find on this subject is more than 3 years old and doesn't seem to be relevant for new Macbooks and Garageband. I don't want to spend too much money, but I want a good quality sound. Thank you!

You need no audio interface to connect the guitar using a USB port or firewire,

or, if your Mac has an audio line, a port, use an adapter.

The Apogee Jam is a good audio Interface but a little expensive.  A basic interface would be the iMic, but I've seen here, it may be the origin of latency.   Recording with iMic in GarageBand

If you just want to try an electric guitar, you could use a dispatcher of entry and plug it into the headphone port, if your guitar has a preamp (for example this 2 x 3-Pin 3.5 mm Headset Splitter Adapter - M/F)
