How can I restore my tabs and groups of tabs after a update to version 36.0?

I work with many tabs when I use Firefox. I keep classified in groups of tabs, which helps to separate the different children to work I do and interests I have. I have been using this environment for years. When I started my job today, Firefox updated to v36.0, and noted the following behaviors:

1. There is only one group of tabs when you try to display tabs at Panorama, as opposed to a dozen groups;

2. normally if the hidden tabs (tabs in the same group as the startup group, and not the default page) downloading of content to what the user clicks on, icon, if any, and the name of the page will show on the tab currently, the tabs display 'New tab' and no icon. It seems, however, the number of tabs that exist across all groups of tabs, but are now ghosts this default value, a group of tabs. I must add, however, I do not count the number of tabs, so I can't be exactly. When you click on it, there is just a blank page. It is so strange that Firefox knows they are there but cannot simply attach the address.

I tried to restore the following files from my backup of Windows Home Server to the folder AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ .default < gobbletygook >:

1. in the sessionstore-backups folder, I replaced the files previous.js, recovery.bak and recovery.js (not all of the upgrade ~) with the files yesterday and the day before yesterday.

When that did nothing, I replaced

2 sessionCheckpoints.json

I do not see any file with a recent date that seems to be the one that I have to restore. I should add that I don't see hidden files. I thought about the restoration of the whole of the batch, but didn't know how it would affect the program v36.0 and the profile on 35.0.1 files.

I have deadlines this week and must immediately restore my environment in order to make these possible. I have no address list on my Web pages to work in IE or other. Any help would be much appreciated.

On a second note, I had been wondering recently if this tab group environment is an appropriate way to maintain my work environment. Sometimes, during the opening of Panorama, I would get an error saying a script takes too much time, but if I clicked on continue, it would display the groups in a few seconds. I considered bringing it in bookmarks, but it would be tedious and more difficult to access and open several tabs. Initially, I tried tabs groups thinking it was just a matter of maintaining a table of addresses (in tabs) with a name or an ID of tab group. How that might go wrong? Well, there, so it is obviously more complicated than that, and I did not know that upgrades would affect the data of a personal nature. That I should abandon the use of tab groups?

With the help of information from the user, ptressel, in a post here on the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released, I could easily get my tabs and groups of tabs as follows:

  1. close Firefox and, perhaps, wait a few seconds (30 years?) for any final closing of files;
  2. Check if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named as I documented in my original post above.
  3. If this is not timestamped before the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder.
  4. Check if the recovery.js file is properly stamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
  5. At this point, you are likely to find that none of them is before your problem occurring. If so, open your backups from this folder and go through steps 2 to 4 to find a file before your problem occurring.
  6. When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js.
  7. Open Firefox. Mine opened upwards as you wish.

It is a solution for Windows. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet it's just a copy of file and change of name, it is likely even.

For Windows users, you can find you must sign out and sign in as administrator in order to access backups. You must not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.

Hope that helps.

  • How can I restore my tabs and windows, open or closed, when all else fails?

It's not so much a question, an answer that some people desperately need.

Since the Version 34, Firefox has done a superb job to restore the tabs created by the user, application or restart Firefox (if this option is chosen).

The details of how to restore the tabs are covered using base online and even Firefox how to deal with several accidents now (for example, as an addon) ruin the normal backup file are also well explained.

However, today I accidentally pressed Alt + F4 twice on my keyboard ill-conceived and closed my main window, with 93 tabs and another window of Firefox as well. I'm not sure that's exactly what happened, but I lost all my tabs 93.

I read a lot of posts where people give suggestions, but none worked. Whenever I've restored a sessionstore.js file version saw the same lonely empty tab Restoring prefs.js did nothing, and not more than to changes in internal configuration constants.

I tried refreshing / reset Firefox (which preserves the bookmarks), but I couldn't always restore the tabs. It was now clear that the problem was in sessionstore.js (and all its backups) for sure.

I write for people who must restore their windows or tabs and don't mind be technical on this subject. This is my situation.

The solution was to realize that the sessionstore.js file contains the JSON code, which is an effective way to represent integers and strings arranged in a tree structure.

I thought that there must be a JSON Editor somewhere and it turns out there is a great available online, at www.jsoneditoronline.org . It can read a file on your computer, edit it, then save it to your computer.

As soon as I read sessionstore.js in the editor, it was obvious, easy how this was going to be. The top level of the tree is understandable. Simply, I grabbed the data representing the window with 93 tabs and dragged in the list of the closed windows of Firefox in the list of open windows. This automatically moved the history of each tab and even strings entered in forms.

After copying sessionstore.js to Firefox profile, I started Firefox once more. Reading Pandora reported that my tabs were back and running once more.

Now, change the JSON code isn't something that everyone is ready for. And your problem may not be reflected in the JSON tree so simply. But, for the technical spirit of people who do not want to lose their tabs or windows to a mistake or an accident, this technique may be just what it takes when all else fails.

This seems very practical. Make itself comfortable. A kind of backup would be
Create a folder in the Bookmarks Manager and make a list of links here.

Just a note. The sessionstore file shows the last windows / tabs that
are open. Because the window with 90 tabs has been closed in the first place, then the
other, that's what caused the problem.

you ask for help, not offering is not a solution.

  • How can I restore my tabs closed

Please forgive me if I do not exactly everything well it is my first time so if you need information out just answer and wrong type an answer for my problem as the title says I can not my tabs, once that I close them recently closed tabs, history option is grayed out so it wont work when I click on it and restore the session seems to work because every time I farm fire fox and it restore session he brings back the tabs that I used it also records the windows recently closed, it's just recently closed tabs that are the problem I checked the other issues, but they don't seem to have the answers I need please tell me if find you out how to recover my tabs

Well, in theory, features such as Protection from surf to the CSA will be lock settings and restore them if they are changed, then you could Explorer if it actually works.

With professional users in mind, Firefox has a feature to block certain parameters so that they cannot be overridden. This involves the creation of a couple of different files in the Firefox program folder (under C:\Program Files (x 86) \). I have not tried it myself, but you can learn more about here:

  • How can I restore lost address and search bars?

I clicked on something in the search bar options, and the search bar and the url address bar disappeared. So, how to restore the address bar and the search bar?

Hi jackk1, you need to click right into an empty space in one of the toolbars at the top of your browser window and click on "Navigation Toolbar".

If you still do not have the address bar or the search bar, you must click right into an empty space as before and click "Customize." You should then find the address bar or the search bar in the new window, and you can drag the this window on the navigation bar. Then close the window 'Customize' and that should be fine.

Thanks anyway but I found what I wanted in - "bookmarks" in the FireFox menu at the top of the page - then come on in - "show all bookmarks", then "import and backup" on the new page, click "restore." I simply chose the date of the day, and bookmarks were back. Its actually pretty simple once figure you it out. To bad I could not find these directions in help. • If I accicentally delete a tab, how can I restore it?

If I accidentally delete a tab, how can I restore it?

I'm not sure what you mean by delete, but I'll mention a few things to get started:

    (1) If you accidentally closed a tab, but there is another tab open in the same window:

    • Make a right click No matter what tab > undo close tab

      • CTRL + SHIFT + t did the same thing
    • Use the menu list in the history of recently closed tabs to re - open the tab

    (2) If you accidentally close a tab, and that the entire window:

    • If you had another open window (Firefox did not close): allows you to re - open the window menu in the history of windows list recently closed
    • If Firefox shuts down: after starting Firefox, check the list of the menu in the history of recently closed windows. If none is listed, try to 'Restore previous Session' on the history menu and then check again.

  • How can I get the tabs to go on a single line and a menu of Firefox?

Firefox allows to have 2 lines above - Firefox menu with tabs and more and another line of the navigation toolbar. during the installation of some programs online, Firefox now have 3 lines at the top, with the Firefox menu on an entire line, the 2nd line of tabs and 3rd line of navigation toolbar. How can I get the tabs to go on a single line and a menu of Firefox?

With the current versions of Firefox, you can choose to use the menu of Firefox (orange in windows; gray Linux) button at the left end of the Windows title bar or bar menus familiar as in earlier versions. The Firefox button is displayed by default only in Windows Vista and Windows 7, but you can turn on or off or switch between the two or temporarily show the menu bar when the Firefox button is displayed.

If you chose to use the Firefox button and you use the default tabs on top, the tab bar will move to the title bar with the Firefox button only when you are to maximize window (the ' square' the middle button in the upper right corner of the Windows standard application window). Other selected toolbars will be displayed below that (bar Navigation, Bookmarks Toolbar and the toolbars you add via Add - ons).
