  I think that you are on the right track.  The buttons on the left do not become activated when you tap the top right?  If this is the case, then your printer has a serious problem and I am unsure of what you can do about it.

  To my knowledge there is not a way to perform the action you're looking for. I spent some time working with the iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) within the Department of specialty Cloud Services (CSS), here at HP, and I don't remember that there is a way around this problem.   I will suggest 2 things. First, go to hp.com site and select your device from the five listed here (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html).

  Second suggestion is that you use the HP software to scan your document, where the native format is PDF.

  I uninstalled the existing software, installed the downloaded version of the most recent features complete drivers for the D110a, then reloaded my original installation on download CD, and now it seems to work.  I can now go to the center of Solution and I guess that all other errors are "supported".

  The only thing I did differently in this re - install was re - load the CD on the download.

  Here is a link to 'how to scan' documents on hp.com.

  Choose your operating system, or scan from the printer.  Since the 6520 is not a duplexor, you'll need to turn the page on the scanner to scan the back side.  If you want a copy two sides, then put the printed pages in the paper tray with the face upwards.  If you are scanning in format pdf, then the screen will ask you if you send several pages and will be waiting to deliver the document to scan the back side.
