How fast is Portege R830 SATA controller?

Hello

Recently, I started looking for an SSD performance of my laptop.
How fast is SATA R830 - 3 or 6 Gbps controller?
Is there a list of supported devices?

Thank you!

R.

Hello

AFAIK the laptop supports the interface Serial ATA Rev. 2.6.
According to the news of Wikipedia review SATA 2.x supports 3 Gbps

  • Aurora R4: newly installed SSD running in G2 / SATA300 - how can I 'persuade' the SATA controller to run at G3 /SATA600?

Good evening.  I was a little indecisive on the place where this post, but I think it's the right place.

I just replaced the main drive in my Alienware Aurora R4 with a SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD... works perfectly (and quickly).  I realized a clean Windows 10 Pro (x 64), generation to level to the latest version.  I'm not using RAID.

The SDS is properly installed and connected in the location SATA01.

This Aurora R4 has the "Dell", well actually "Intel" Patsburg 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller (revised A7), capable of handling G3 / SATA600.  However, two DVD players work to G1 / SATA150 and all four disks are running at G2 / SATA300.

I have the latest driver for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology, confirming a transfer rate SATA 3 Gb/s for my SSD (and the other three HARD drives).

How can I convince the computer I want to optimize my SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD performance, with the rate of transfer running at G3 / SATA600?

I searched on through the value of the library of web pages, but not found a solution.  I was hoping that it would be a BIOS problem (installed last), is a question of the SATA controller firmware, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver allows no fiddling, so I drew a blank there.

Knowledge advice would be warmly received, especially if you have a R4 Aurora that runs a G3 SSD / SATA600!

    Hello

General keyboard should be exchanged by authorized personnel only. Small mistake can lead with plastic parts broken as keyboard connector.
I presume that you don t have experience with such things, so I highly recommend you to visit the nearest service and ask for help.
By the way: what is the problem with your machine? Why do you want to swap the keyboard?

    Hello

You use the same port in the docking station and Portege R830?
Docking station replica ports in order to use the Portege docking station port or port.

If you want to connect more than one external monitor to the laptop then I would recommend using something like Toshiba Dynadock

    Hello

On motherboards Intel with only a controller SATA, numbered lower two ports SATA III PROVIDED that SATA controller supports SATA III.  Some motherboards, at least two SATA ports are on the side.

No matter what the picture shows, you shuold be able to read the numbers of the SATA port on the motherboard.

In your particular case, the ports SATA 1 and 2 are SATA III ports.  The picture I posted was incorrectly grouped SATA ports so the tan and Dr. Blue connectors SATA III speeds performance. If you look closely, they are labeled 1 SATA and SATA 2.

HP 6470 b 2nd hard drive upgrade. How fast this port works on? SATA I, II or III

I want to put in a 60 GB SSD into the CD slot and want to see how fast it will support as this will be used for the Cache

    Thank you

The published information is not explicit; He says only: SATA for the expansion Bay while the main hard drive Bay expressly says SATA-III. However, given that this isn't just an optical drive Bay, but also a general 'Bay expansion', it is safe to assume it of on the same SATA bus as main drive and is a SATA III interface.

    Data sheet

6470b is also supposed to have a slot for a WSSD mSATA, but he is not described in the Manual:

    Manual

Obviously the WSSD would work better for cache but you can use a 60 gig SSD in an expansion bay for both cache adapter. Even if the connection is SATA-II, it will be much faster to work for a cache of acceleration.

  • Portege R830-10v / i7 / change internal SSD 225 GB

    Hello

I need to change my flash drive SSD internal 225 GB for a 512 GB SSD!

What should I do to the hardware and software level?
    Can I take any SSD?

    Thanks for the help?

    Best regards, Florence

The HDD or SSD drive update requires no special modifications in the software or hardware.
You need a compatible player SATA SSD 2.5.

Here is a nice and very useful document how to upgrade / replace the Portege R830 & Satellite R830 series SSD or HARD disk drive.

    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU18037E0000R01.htm

Of course, after this upgrade, you'll need to install the system new the best choice would be its use or recovery disk and recover the laptop to factory settings.

  • Portege R830 - request for Information

    Hello

I have a Portege R830-10R, she SATA III?
I notice a big difference if I decide to change of na SSD and add 4 GB of memory?

Thanks in advance for any answer!

    Have fun!

I can confirm the experience of Liam and Bunzena; switching on the SSD is the best choice you can make, and this small update will improve performance of the significant laptop.
I did these updates in the past and of course the SSDS are not cheap parts but I do not regret.

By the way: you can install diagnostic tools material as another like SiSoft Sandra or Everest Home Edition. Both will provide you with details of the controller and the performance.

  • Portege R830 - model with SSD or HARD drive?

    Hello!

I am considering buying a Portege R830. I've yet to decide between the Portégé R830-10R (model with HARD drive) and the Portégé R830 - 10 p (model with a 256 GB SSD). To do this, I would like to know:

-What is the SSD model assembled in the Portégé R830?
-It uses a standard SATA connection or an owner like the previous Portégé R700 SSD?
-Have someone replaced the original HDD to the Portégé R830 by a whole new SATA 3 SSD? Wich one? It works fine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi MadVet,

The SSD of Portege R830 - 10 p is a model of Toshiba 2.5 so it does not work in Portege R830. In addition due to the 2.5 form factor it uses SATA standard interface as normal hard drives.

In my opinion, you should take the model with SSD. 256 GB is enough for the operating system and applications as well as for some important data. If you need more disk external HARD disk space use. SSDS are very fast and you will see the performance of the SSD HARD drive instead ;)

  • Portege R830 - fingerprints fingerprints are more recognized

    Hello

Last week, I bought a Portege R830. I registered my 2 index fingers and everything has worked fine for about 2 days. Now when I put my index fingers, the utility no longer recognizes my impressions, neither one.

How can I delete the prints and start again? I tried to go to the utility, but since it does not recognize my impression, it does not give me access.

    TIA
    Patricia

Start the utility of fingerprinting as an administrator and click the button "delete all traces of fingers. He may need to enter a password to give you access.

If you don't remember the password, you may have to send the laptop in to a Service Center for Toshiba to remove fingerprints.

  • Portege R830 - problems of 3G connection after installing Win 7 32 bit

    Hello

I went down a Portege R830 Windows 7 64 bit for Windows 7 32 bit with drivers of Toshiba. I put a SIM from my provider.
In the windows Network Manager, 7 and in the Toshiba Wireless Manager I can see the right provider and HSPA network but when I start the connection, it does not (I don't have a PIN code).

It is failed with Windows 7 Network Manager and Manager Toshiba wireless (I don't have this problem with the Portege R700 windows 7 32bits)

But I found a small solution (but I think that's not enough):
    I have created a dial-up connection, with a number * 99 #,.
I started the connection, it does not happen, but after that, when I raise my first connection is good.

I don't know why, it's as if the modem is in sleep and the dial-up connection wake-up the modem, because after all is good (win7 Network Manager, Manager wireless Toshiba) so if I reboot the Portege.

I want to avoid the dial-up connection on my r700 portege with 32-bit windows 7

Thanks for your help and sorry for my English.
support for the toshiba told me to reinstall windows 7 64 bit to solve the problem :)

  • Sound when Portege R830 is anchored and display lid is closed

I have a fairly new Toshiba Portege R830 laptop (PT321E-01E00YEN) who don't use speakers integrated if it is placed in a dock with the closed laptop screen or the microphone.

This causes problems when you try to work from only an external monitor, but when I flip the lid open, it works fine.

I am using a replication of port II (PA3916B) and once installed a month ago, all device etc drivers has been updated to the lasted available so I think that there is a software configuration option that just needs to check or disabling.

No one knows where that might be?

I test this on an another older duplicator that has been purchased for a R700-15R and have exactly the same problem, so I don't think it is hardware related.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Please don't get me wrong, but to me this behavious seems logical. When you close the lid internal speaker and microphone placed close to the cam are blocked so I don't know how you want to use.
When the laptop is closed and set aside, it's almost the same as the office. All devices that you need should be connected to the docking station and external devices.

If you use your laptop on a regular route, but they also appear external to office extension, you can use all the internal devices to your laptop.

In my opinion the point of berthing of the use of the station of different devices to your laptop, but using the docking station, you can remove the laptop and take it with you without disconnection of all connected devices, including the power supply.

To be honest, I see here no problem. You can contact Toshiba service nearest and ask for opinions, but I'm sure the answer will be the same.

  • Portege R830 - updates BIOS and USB 3

    Hi all

    I have a Toshiba Portege R830, business management Windows 7 (SP1) 32-bit (for work).
I also start Linux Mint 14 64-bit, that I installed it on a portable USB HDD (non-professional).

I recently bought a 3 USB HARD drive, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it gives me only USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc.), who say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being 3 USB, cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed) and the port that I use on the R830 is 3.

I feel the same way, if I boot on windows or linux.

I've updated all the drivers on the two operating systems, does not.

then I tried to update the BIOS, but I get the following error:
"An error occurred during the preparation of the updated environment.
You have not given the permission to execute the update".

For the record, it's the BIOS I'm leaving, & to.
BIOS version: Current Ver.2.80--> updated Ver.4.10
THIS Version: Current Ver.1.10--> update Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I wouldn't get USB 3 speed (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40-50 MB/s), or why all the diagnostics say USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the problem of updating the BIOS?
(I tried in safe mode, disable AV, disabling NX)

    See you soon

    This USB driver is installed?

Please try to install it and check again speed USB.
