  I found the solution.  I did some research and found references to delete the caps.db under earlier versions of Windows.   I found a file caps.db in C:\Program Files (x 86) \Common Files\Adobe\Backup.   I deleted the file, then right click on the Setup file and use "Run as Administrator" (do not do that the first time), installed everything well, except for an error with Adobe Flash CS4.   But so far, the programs seem to work well.   BTW, Adobe Reader 11, Photoshop elements 11 and 11 Premier came preinstalled with my computer), that could create some conflicts.

  For what it's worth, own Adobe's Web site indicates that there are no known issues with Windows 8.1 for CS4 (http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/windows-8-1-compatability.html).

  You can not install CS5.5 Windows on your Mac.

  You need to either buy a new copy of the CS6 for your Mac or join the creative Cloud (and pay monthly fees).

  If you join the cloud, you can then install CS6 (and soon the CC version) on your Mac and Windows for the same fee.
