I have a problem, and it's been a while and still not solved...

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit right now and I want to upgrade to Windows 7, but installation is NOT going through perhaps because of the virtual disk service.

How to START the virtual disk service? Everytime I try through services, I get an error 3: the system cannot find the path specified.

Please tell me HOW to start the virtual disk service. and please do NOT move this thread on the forum windows 7, I posted in the front Vista section and moved to the region of Win 7, where my problem has not been resolved. Please leave it in this section. Thank you.

Ok. The file is in the right place. The registry is missing the path to
the file. Wonder how that happens - sigh?

Type Regedit in the search box of the start menu.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vds

Right-click on an empty area in the right pane - choose new - extensible
String value. Name ImagePath (F2 key renames it). Double-click
    ImagePath and assign
    %SystemRoot%\System32\vds.exe

Now you can start the service?

  • Vista Ultimate 64 bit - SP2-problem with Sidebar - gadgets comes in random order

    Hello
I just installed SP2 on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit - system. Everything seems to work ok, but I soon discovered a very annoying problem. The order chosen for my gadgets in the sidebar is destroyed each time I close the OS or just close sidebar and reopen again.

I tried to use the 32 - bit sidebar.exe rather version (located in C:\Program Files (x 86) \Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe) and this version observe the correct order, but the 64-bit version (located in C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe) destroy the order of gadgets.

I have looked for a solution, but have not been able to find. But I discovered, that there is a general problem for all users of Vista 64 bit and a lot of people are very unhappy with this new pproblem caused by SP2. I hope that he will be made a fix for this problem that is boring as soon as POSSIBLE. A chronology of a solution?

    Cordially Teddy

No solution for it yet, according to me, just use the x 86 version of the sidebar for now.

    Hello

    You are welcome.

Before considering the upgrade to Windows 7, there are a lot of things to consider.

See if Dell has Windows 7 drivers for your model computer.

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=20

And also to use the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

To your original problem, you can try this scan:

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

The only problem is that it do not work if you have serious problems of file system.

That's when you need Installion repair to fix things with a Microsoft DVD as above or replace the files, but you still need this DVD. Catch 22!

Try it and see how you go with it.

  • How do you get Vista Ultimate 64-bit to recognize more 2 TB of hard drive capacity?

I'm doing a new clean generation with 4, 1.5 to hard drives in Raid 5, which gives me 4,09 TB of space. When you install Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, Vista tells me that I have just 2 TB. The mobo recognizes the TB 4.09. I know that XP and older OS could recognize only 2 TB, but I thought that Vista and Windows 7 might recognize more.

    Hi Dunstonchris,

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers!
It seems that your RAID is currently formatted with an MBR partition, which has a limit of 2 TB. You will need to convert this disk to a GUID (GPT) Partition Table disk that will support up to 256 terabytes.
You can also consider having a single HARD drive with your OS and your RAID with your information. The following article explains how to accomplish this task and is very easy to follow: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/a_reason_to_finally_use_vista

  • Can I do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on Vista Ultimate 32-bit upgrade. Installation file will not work. The error is described below.

The XPS 730 with Intel Q9450 computer yourself running Windows 7 64 bit? The details of performance show that it is capable of 64-bit. When I try to install Windows 7 pro 64-bit upgrade, the installer will not work. I get an error that reads:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows that you are running.

I'm currently running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Everything that I read on Microsoft and elsewhere says that you can go from Vista 32 bit to an operating system Windows 7 64-bit as long as you do the clean install. I'm that far away since I can't even run the installation.
Maybe nobody knows what could be the problem?

    Hi Hal K,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you run a 64-bit version of Windows, you can perform an upgrade to another 64-bit Windows version.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows, and vice versa, you will need to back up your files and then perform a custom of the version of Windows you want to install installation.
