How to keep a virtual machine on a different host to another load balancing virtual computer

I have two virtual computers (servers) that I use for the application load balancing and I don't want nor server/VM to finish on the same host at any time.   Balancing of the DRS is used in our vSphere environment.  What is the best way to implement?

Yes that's what I was talking about-

You can control the placement of virtual machines on the hosts in a cluster using Affinity rules.

You can create two types of rules.

VM HOST affinity - specify affinity or anti-affinite between a group of VMS and a group of guests. An affinity rule specifies that the members of a selected group virtual machine DRS may or must be running on a specific host DRS group. An anti-home rule specifies that the members of a selected group virtual machine DRS cannot run on a specific host of the DRS group members.

Affinity of machine VM-virtual - specify affinity or an anti-affinite between each of the virtual machines. A rule specifying the affinity causes DRS to try to keep the specified virtual machines together on the same host, for example, for performance reasons. With a rule anti-xxx, DRS tries to keep the specified virtual machines, for example, so that when a problem arises with a host, you do not lose the two virtual machines.

When I start the VM, it does start the ISO.

If I go to vCenter, the CD is pointing to the ISO file, but the 'Connected' to change settings option is not checked;  I can restart the VM of vCenter and then the VM restarts the ISO, but not in the script.

I even put code to add a lead time of 5 to 10 seconds; I restart the virtual machine twice in the script and I can't CD to connect to start the virtual computer.

  • How to restore a virtual computer to another computer using Backup Exec virtual

    Hi all

I tested VMware 3.5.  We have little budget, so we intend to convert 5-10 dev servers into virtual machine running on an existing ML570 HP.  I created a test VM; I could back up and restore the entire virtual machine using Backup Exec to a physical server without problem.  However I can not restore a virtual machine to a different VM.  Let's say I dv01; I backed up using Backup Exec dv01 on the physical server.  Pretending the host has no I have rebuilt a new host, created a new virtual machine with the same name dv01 and same features.  I restored dv01 from the backup.  The restoration is properly; However, he got a blue screen when I rebooted the virtual computer.  The blue screen went so big that I don't remember what it was, but it's the kind of a dll error.

We want to keep the budget as small as possible using our existing Backup Exec agents, but it doesn't seem to work here.  Is Backup Exec for VMware agent a MUST?  Catering to the same VM is good, but restore to a different VM is not so simple.

    THX.

As you can see in http://www.vmware.com/products/vi/buy.html, VCB is included in all editions of VI 3.5.

  • To access the virtual machines of two different hosts

    Greetings,

I have a question that I can't find the answer to. I am setting up a virtual machine environment small and need to better understand the architecture behind it.

    2 host servers

    1 iSCSI Equallogic San (target)

I have installed 35i ESX and runnning on two physical hosts. .205 et.206

I created a data store on my SAN to host my 'model' VM.

De.205, I can see the data on the SAN network store and browse the virtual machine I (using VMConverter) moved there.

De.206, I can see the data store on the SAN, but when I sail, I do not see the same information. I see no. VM.

MY understanding is that using the SAN to store the virtual machine and that I would make the hosts of this data store to run the virtual machine. But the way in which it seems that I have the virtual machine configured on both hosts, always pointing the data store on the San but again using converter, copy de.205 vers.206.

What don't understand me or that I don't understand.

    Your help is appreciated.

Welcome to the VMware community forums.   If you have configured things Ok, you will be able to browse the data from these two hosts store and see the same content.  You can register the virtual computers on both hosts.  For an existing VM on the host from 1, you find the data on the host of the 2nd store, right-click on the VMX file and select Add to the inventory.  Have you thought to vcenter server?  It's going to do it is a lot easier.

  • How to remove a virtual computer in WS 8 draws it from 'my computer '.

    Salvation;

I recently did some "house keeping" system by removing some old VMS (Windows 7 64-bit). I finished remove disk outside the workstation 8 thinking that I could just delete the list of workstation.

I opened the 8.0.6, workstation and I went to the tab 'my computer '. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I expect to be able to right click on the entry for the virtual machine and 'remove' from the list.

Instead, right click only gives me the choice of 'open '. Open does not work of course because the virtual machine isn't there anymore.

Am I missing something? What is the way to remove a deleted virtual machine? (Or even if not deleted one by the way).

Even for machines that I still, I can't find an option 'remove '. (I see the closest thing is to Manage / "remove disc", which is more drastic than just detached from the list).

    Thank you;

OK, I forgot that there is a separate pane 'library' (I normally hidden). I thought that the 'My computer' tab has been where I removed the VMs when it was really the library list, with that I needed to work.

  • How to remove the virtual computer on a data store

I'm moving VM (by the data store) to my new cluster data store and as I release a DS I have delete and create new with VMFS5.  I just emptied a data store but when I run the following command it shows again two VM on the same DS so when I navigate on the DS it is empty.

    Get-datastore-name "DS_NAME | Get - vm | FT name

How to see where/how/why these two VMs are on the DS when it seems to be empty, and I'm assuming that PowerCLI is my best result. Of course, I don't want to just delete the DS as possible casue a problem with these virtual machines.  When I look at the settings them of each virtual machine they show that they are on a store of separate data and not that I'm trying to delete.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thank you

    You can do:

    Notice-EEG-Id | Get-VIObjectByVIView

    or:

    Get - VM | Get-Datastore

What I would like to ask you is if it is possible to export the virtual machine as

Is this possible? How can I do?

  • How to pass the virtual computer for the upgrade of the hard drive?

I installed ESXi on a server with only 80 GB installed hard drive (RAID-1). Now, I'll upgrade the two 1 TB drives (RAID-1). What is the best possible method to back up my VM?

I have a standby server. Installed ESXi on it and transferred a VM using VMware Converter for this spare server. After upgrading the hard disk and reinstall ESXi I want to transfer my VM to the server of origin.

Is this the right way or is there an easier way?

    Thank you

    Chantal

    Hello

I don't see a problem in you turn the VM on the server as well spare, you can very well do it and use it until your main server is up and Runnin'. Once the primary server running stops the virtual machine on the spare part and then copy.

    Thank you

  • How can I move my photos out of Media Smart to another file on my computer, as my images?

I uploaded my photos from my camera for the first time using HP Mediasmart, and now I can't get them in my normal photo file called, my images. I usually use a windows program to download on my computer, but thought I would try something new. Now my pictures are deleted from my camera, and I can't get them in my normal photo collection! There is no way of doing drag or right-click or anything! How does this work?

I think I'm starting to see what your situation is now.

Yes the manual way of drag n drop might seem not as smooth if your used to a user interface that automatically sorts.

When I copy photos through a job, I have a folder of work with subfolders organized by alphabetical order. These colors may also be called by Date, or YOU want.  Inside of each of them, I have two folders with names of customers, dates, places or whatever the occasion.

And it's easier for me to track where each series of photos are found.

You can organize a system of files that suites you how you want to. The idea is that you know you have them there when you need it. Not guess. I do not recommend putting all the photos in one folder. It would be a nightmare to find.

If you want to get more in photo editing and/or organization program specifically, there is a lot out there.

I use Adobe Lightroom, which will download the photos from your card reader and place them where you tell him.

It makes vast photo adjustments but its US $150.

A free alternative to LR is a project open source called LightZone. It mimics most of the layout of Lightroom. You must register on their website first before you download. I did not use LZ.

These aren't for the timid if they have a learning curve for them.

I have a relative who won't use Picasa to navigate his photos with because it's the only thing that she is willing to learn and was easier for her.   ARRG

I hope this has helped in some way.

Sorry other software did not work for you.

I have problems to find a way to get a list of virtual machines on an ESX host specific and then he dumped to a .csv in the following format

    I use the get-vmhost esxhostname | Get - vm

but everyhting else after, it is where I am lost...  I think the closest I had been posting the output with a goofy header and format 'vm1, vm2, vm3 "...

    computer 1 name

    computer 2 name

    name of the machine 3

to use for later use.  Any help would be appreciated.

You must use the Select-Object cmdlet to specify more precisely the properties you want.

The Export-Csv doesn't know how to manage the virtual computer object.

    Something like that

    Get-vmhost esxhostname | Get - vm | Select name. Export Csv.\report.csv - NoTypeInformation - UseCulture

  • Data store mobile (vm machine) 1 host to another with the help of free hypervisor on the two hosts

I have 2 hosts running ESXi 4.1 (free version of the hypervisor). Both have their own data store locally.

I need to move a VM machine (data store) of a host for the other local data store. There best way to do this with the free hypervisor?

    Hello

Using VMWare Converter standalone 4.0, it's a free VMWare tool exactly for situations like yours. I use the conversion tool to transfer my virtual machines much between different hosts of ESXi and also founded to convert ESXi VMs to VMWare Server/Workstation and vice versa.

All you need to do is turn off the virtual machine and make sure that it is in the inventory of the ESXi host source; Use the VMWare Infrastucture option while selecting the source and the destination of VMWare Converter Standalone, you will be asked to provide identification name and connection of your ESXi source servers and destination information.

VMWare Converter Standalone is a brialliant tool, its very flexible in that you can resize your hard drive, use a provisioning, edit all devices.

Hope this information useful for you.

  • Two Virtual PC on different host with common shared HARD drive PC: problem

I configured two virtual PC with win2003 to test Oracle RAC, one on desktop PC (host operating system is WinXP) and 2nd on my laptop (host operating system is Vista) both virtual PC is using shared drives, pointing to my desktop PC, but these shared drives do not work as hard shared common for virtual machines. When I'm all shared formatting HDD 1 PC other PC watch is not formatted.

    I tried - scsi1.sharedbus = "virtual" too, but...

You try to share a virtual disk between two virtual machines using a SCSI reservation.

VMware Server does not supports drive sharing between virtual machines sitting on different hosts (desktop & laptop).  You can't do that.

Your two virtual machines need to be on the same host computer.

Please read carefully the documentation, specifically the chapter "questions to consider when sharing disks"

  • How to create disk shared across virtual machines on different hosts

    Hello

We implement Oracle RAC on two virtual machines, one on each of the two armies for redundancy. For our installation:

    • The two ESXi hosts two SAN access a logical unit number.
    • Two virtual machines on the hosts must have access to a single virtual disk on this LUN (or unit number logic itself) at the same time.

    We tried the following:

    • Creation of a data store associated with the LUN, and then creating a new hard drive on each virtual machine using the same virtual disk on the data store. This operation failed because as soon as a virtual computer runs, the other virtual computer cannot run since the first has a lock on the file from the disk.
    • Creation of a new hard drive on the virtual machine through RDM. This operation failed because only the first virtual machine has this option of disc. Once the ROW has been assigned to the LUN, the other virtual computer cannot create its own RDM for the LUN.

I'm learning just VMware so I can miss a fundamental method to accomplish this, or perhaps, it is not possible at all. You know a way to create the installer I described?

    Welcome to the community,

I can not specifically help with the Oracle RAC, however, I would recommend that you take a look at MSCS documentation for how to configure shared disks. There is a difference in the way in which you have installed the VM, for example all VMs on an ESXi host or on different hosts. Please keep in mind that MSCS is a cluster without sharing, which means that only one node at a time has access to a shared virtual disc/RDM.
