  • How to finish my defrag and how to lock the computer

I have a windows xp with vista netbook.  How to make chkdsk /f to run.  How to defragment to finish.  What are the mpf files.  It says I have fragemendted

How safe boot that.  Also, I don't have my net number of the computer.  How to download c ++ for free when I could do it before.  Also, what is

a good setting for security.  Harry

Unfortunately, both a chkdsk (check disk) and Defrag are high level utility that correct problems with the file system.

most importantly, windows you cannot defragment if 1) there is no free space on the disk and 2) if the file system is dirty.

so if you're stuck with an incomplete defragmentation, it's a serious problem.

If, however, you have not been able to run a defragmentation because you run a check disk (chkdsk), then you're ok for now.

to run a disk check, open windows Explorer / my computer.

then right-click on the drive letter, select Properties, then go to the Tools tab and then to initialize the control disc function.

by the way, don't know why you want to c ++.   Remember that you have a netbook with limited resources and not a full blown computer.  I would Setup not all that kind of public services on the small machine of high-level programming.

Finally, you can get information on your netbook by looking at the sticker or label on it or by running a utility that gives you information on your machine.

It is important for you to know the number of brand and model of your machine because there is a lot of information, how to, faq, patches and updates to their homesite.

  • Locking the computer

I need to know how to lock my computer. I'll cast divorce and my son was reading all my documents, Attorney for 15 years. I still want it to be able to use the computer, but not to see my files. Help!

There are several approaches. I will recommend who should be very
    easy to use:

Buy a USB key (they are cheap) and put all the files
you want on it and remove the hard drive (including the)
the trash). Plug the USB in when you want to use the
files; Remove when finished it and keep the USB place
    inaccessible to him.

Make sure the USB is big enough for all files now
with a certain margin to add additional files.

    Possible reason for this behavior:
I suspect that a third-party application to start conflicts and it translates into changing the resolution. Once you got the correct resolution after re-installing the drivers set the computer to clean up state of startup and then check if the resolution changes. In this way, we can use the approach 50 / 50 to find contradictory application the cause.

How to find the conflicting application:

Note: When the diagnosis is complete, don't forget to reset your computer to normal startup. Follow step 7 in the above article.

Similar was also mentioned in the thread below; in this case, the webcam software was causing the conflict.

  • How and when the computer turns off automatically?

This is great... .buth how and when the computer turns off?  When I reopen it wifi comes back, I'm correct when she stops she also turns off wifi?

    Hello allan299,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

According to your post, I see that you have any questions on how and when your computer shuts down, and how the WiFi on your Mac is affected. I know it's nice to be able to properly manage what happens when your computer stops and starts in mode 'sleep'. I'm happy to help you find the best resolution.

You're right, when your computer stops completely it will turn the Wi - Fi. If you enable the wake for network access, Wi - Fi remains lit, and you can access shared resources on your computer, such as printers or iTunes shared playlists even when your computer is in "sleep". Definition of a calendar closing and start on your Mac can also be useful.

Check out the following resources that will help the set options that control the energy use of your computer, sleep, and wake-up times for your Mac and the calendar from your Mac to turn on or turn off or go to sleep:

OS X Yosemite: energy saver Preferences
