  • My inner smartdrive dvd player won't read DVDs more.  I have updated to Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.  I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system.  The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot).  If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk.  When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc.  That no longer works.  Yesterday, only it just stop working.  The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works.  I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success.  I think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

I have no TV, only my computer and phone at low prices.  I need to watch that my library borrowed from the dvd.

    Thank you.

I suspect the optical drive has failed. My 2009 Mac Mini could not shoot with same symptom 4 years ago.

To confirm a drive failure, insert a Snow Leopard installation DVD and try to start with the C key.

If this isn't the case, they drive could not be started.

I would just get an external optical drive, one powered with an AC adapter. The Superdrive Apple USB does not work without a hack.

  • Updated Snow Leopard to Yosemite now (may 2016)

-After years of use of Snow Leopard on my iMac 27 "10.6.8, I've upgraded directly to El Capitan. -No problem to do so.

-When you use El Capitan, I encountered several problems (unsupported software and hardware).

-J' therefore decided to install Yosemite. The good service, I tested before on a MacMini i5 8 GB 1 TB Yosemite (2015).

    My questions:

-Directly, can I put my Snow Leopard system to Yosemite today (may 2016) and if so, how?

-Alternately can I downgrade my system of El Capitan in Yosemite and if so, how?

    Additional information:

System to be up - / downgraded: "iMac 27" 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5, 8GB

Full backups (clones and Time Machine) of each State are available

Because it seems that you have downloaded Yosemite in the past, yes it should work.

On your Mac running 10.6.8 open the App Store, go to the 'Purchases' tab, find the OS X Yosemite and download it. Then run "install OS X Yosemite" app when it is made to download and it will guide you through the rest.

Boot from the Snow Leopard DVD by pressing the C key during a reboot or by holding down the option/Alt during a restart, the DVD. Once started, open utility disk, go to the tab clear, select Mac OS X extended (journaled) format with Option GUID. Erase the hard drive. When you are finished, install Snow Leopard. Once completed, restart normally and set up your account using Setup Assistant. Then use the update from the drop-down list below to update to10.6.8. Run the software update until there is no updates.

If you want to save some of your existing data, copy what you want an external hard drive before proceeding to the foregoing.

  • How to partition Snow Leopard on an iMac running El Capitan

    Hello

I would like to ask if anyone knows the best way to go about adding Snow Leopard as a partition to an end i7 model 2015 iMac. I need to run Photoshop CS3 and use an Epson R2400 printer. None of them are compatible with El Capitan.

I read that the partitioning may be an option, but I'm not very computer savvy so I'm having a hard time with google search information that seems contradictory. Ideally, I would like to be able to access the Snow Leopard or El Cap without having to restart. I have a copy of Snow Leopard if a partition is going to work, but some internet advice leads me to believe that I might need to buy Snow Leopard Server and run VMware Fusion, which I'm not familiar with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If I left out any information that would be useful to determine the best route, please let me know. Thank you very much!

On the model of Mac, you must run the Snow Leopard Server emulation; It is too recent to boot Snow Leopard.

I think you can find what you need in l http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-boot-snow-leopard-from-a-dvdrom.htm

If who disobeys, then your drive may have problems.

Further, create a clone bootable on an external HD. You will need either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make. Then, when you install a new HD, just boot from the clone and the format, the HD and restore the complete system of the clone.

  • Installation of snow leopard in VMWare Player

    Hello

I'm at the end of the help.  I bought a copy of snow leopard from apple, so this is a legitimate copy. I have an intel i7 3770 k processor, 16 GB of ram. I'm eager to try to install snow leopard on my virtual environment machine Iona. Up to now he tells me that I'm unable to install a 64-bit operating system. I have WO Windows 7 works beautifully and is a 32-bit operating system. The main operating system is windows 8 and it's 64-bit.

If anyone has guides on how to install snow leopard without having to get a dubious copy of a torrent, I would be very grateful. All the world is that so far?

    Pthanks

    Clem

VMware does not support the operation of Mac OS X in VMware Player/workstation!  Also, legally virtualisables versions of OS X running in a Virtual Machine cannot be done when done in the Apple brand hardware but when done while running under OS X and for that you have VMware Fusion not VMware Player/workstation (or use ESX/ESXi on Apple brand hardware) you violate Apple's SLA for this product.  So any help can you provided for OS X in this use of the scenarios that it would violate the community VMware operating conditions to do.

  • command option brings to the top of Yosemite when restarting in snow leopard mode

My imac which was a splendid machine is long in the tooth.  Until I can afford a new machine, I need to have 2 OS to run the software. I have 2 partitions which runs the latest OS that will run my photoshop. This OS is Snow Leopard. The large partition is that the smaller 800 Gig is 100 Gig.  Because we need rebuild the directory Disk Warrior requires a separate start. Thinking that Yosemite, or even the latest OS would be good to have in order to run the latest version and Disk Warrior to rebuild.

So, my desire is to be able to be present in the Mac OS community but I find it difficult because Snow Leopard doesn't recognize Yosemite (or indeed all that is the latest OS).  Now I have 2 needs. And soon I will be forced to move to the last Revit.  So I have to erase all my drive after the backup files and resize partitions a smaller with Snow Leopard, but the other for execution of Revit through parallels will be perhaps liked 700/300.  Then I'll do bootcamp.

Now, before the great passage, I wanted to see all the current operating system but I can't find how to restart and see the partition.  I have a suggestion to make option-command (it actually says alt) but it does not work.  So any ideas?

    My needs

(1.) I have to run Photoshop and parallels with Revit running Windows 8 for my income to $$ forces

2.) I'll be and add new Revit to see if being run bootcamp makes it faster until I buy a new machine (it is looking more that this will be a windows we like apple clearly it blows with their lack of smart moves lately.)  No DVD player?  Dumb.  Unable to choose an operating system when you restart is not useful.  Some discs not sent when buying new OS, unhappy and this dependence on cloud asking trouble.

Mahalo for your given my dilemma...

Command is the command to rebuild iTunes and Photos and iPhoto libraries, as well as the archaic Mac OS 9 (2001 or earlier version) of the Desktop file.

Option allows you to choose Start on any Mac USB volumes if you have an Apple or Apple compatible USB keyboard.

Parallels is unaffected by the Apple startup command process.  Start you Parallels, the commands usually used with a generic PC applies to start.

Boot Camp, I don't know how it begins, and you will need to discuss with the Boot Camp forum about this trick:

    http://discussions.Apple.com/docs/doc-2463

    What are the processes.

    Here is the solution. :-)

What you have to do is change your main.cf and disabel SSLv2 (SSLv3) and for Apache2 httpd.conf file.

    1. go to/etc/postfix and open the main.cf

    2. Add the following lines

    smtpd_tls_mandatory_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtp_tls_mandatory_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtp_tls_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtpd_tls_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    3. save the main.cf

    4. do/etc/apache and open httpd.conf

    5. search for the SSL stuff

    Add the following line:

  • Yosemite to Snow Leopard and back to Yosemite

Hello world.   My first question on a blog!  I upgraded to Yosemite and now can't use some older software to work, so not able to get the data.  Can someone me that it would be normal to return to snow leopard, get the data moved elsewhere, then reinstall the Yosemite?  I hope this makes sense.  There is a lot of data.  Thank you for all your comments!

Yes, if you have created a Snow Leopard time Machine, you can restore from this backup as shown below

    https://support.Apple.com/kb/PH18846?locale=en_US

Once you are ready to upgrade to Yosemite yet once, just go to the App store, click purchased purchased tab and download OS X Yosemite. Then once he completes the free download and install Yosemite by following the instructions. I hope this helps!

  • Run the utilities from disk on machine with Yosemite Snow Leopard startup disk?

I have a 2009 imac that came with Snow Leopard. I've since updated my OS to Yosemite. Should I run the disc from my old snow leopard startup disk utilities or is it a bad idea?

It is not a 'bad' idea, but it is always best to use the version of disk utility which is part of the OS version installed. Do this by starting the computer from the Recovery HD.

Fix the hard disk and permissions

    HD recovery start

Restart the computer and after the chime hold the Order et R keys until the Menu of the utility is displayed.

    Repair

When the Utility Menu appears, select disk utility and click on the continue button. Disk utility charges and select layouts withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) entry of the list to one side.  Click the first aid tab, and then click the repair disk button. If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then again run repair disc until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions . Wait for the process to finish, and then quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

  • How can I create a bootable USB of OSX Snow Leopard on a MacBook with El Capitan?

HI there, the hard drive failed on my MacBook unibody aluminum end 2008. a couple of years ago, I put in 8 GB of RAM so my thought has been that it is not yet time to entirely replace the MacBook. I replaced the drive HARD failed with a 500 GB compatible hard drive. I tried and failed to install El Calitan via a bootable USB key, because my machine is too old. I just ordered a copy of the Snow Leopard DVD on the Apple store. I wonder how I can install snow leopard on my computer, given that the DVD player on this subject does not? I am able to create a Version bootable USB of Snow Leopard on MacBook for my roommate? He is running to El Capitan. Could someone explain if this is possible and if so, how?

    Thanks in advance!

If his MacBook has a DVD player and 2 computers have the correct wiring, try the target disk Mode.

    HOW TO INSTALL FIREWIRE

    Matt Clifton

    October 23, 2007 12:15 AM

    in response to Kofta

    Solved

    Hi Kofta

To use the firewire transfer mode, restart the iBook and when the screen goes black, hold down the T key on his keyboard. You should see a Firewire symbol on the screen after a few minutes. Connect the two computers with a Firewire cable, and you should see the iBook's hard drive mount on the desktop of your iMac. You can now copy your files everywhere.

If the iMac is brand new and you want to copy your users, applications, and settings, you can use the automatic Migration Wizard that will be launched when you start the computer - or, you can run it at any time from the Applications/Utilities folder.
