How to partition Snow Leopard on an iMac running El Capitan

Hello

I would like to ask if anyone knows the best way to go about adding Snow Leopard as a partition to an end i7 model 2015 iMac. I need to run Photoshop CS3 and use an Epson R2400 printer. None of them are compatible with El Capitan.

I read that the partitioning may be an option, but I'm not very computer savvy so I'm having a hard time with google search information that seems contradictory. Ideally, I would like to be able to access the Snow Leopard or El Cap without having to restart. I have a copy of Snow Leopard if a partition is going to work, but some internet advice leads me to believe that I might need to buy Snow Leopard Server and run VMware Fusion, which I'm not familiar with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If I left out any information that would be useful to determine the best route, please let me know. Thank you very much!

On the model of Mac, you must run the Snow Leopard Server emulation; It is too recent to boot Snow Leopard.

  • Failure of in the Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to El Capitan update

    Hello

I tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to El Capitan and continued to meet any installation errors.  I tried many attempts and ran disk permission repair.  It is motivated by the inability to activate an iPhone 6s with the latest version of itunes 10.6.8 access.

I have over 400 GB of free space on the hard drive of the facility.  The installation runs about 6 minutes before failing.  I have re downloaded the Setup file of four times and have tried about 7 installs.

    See the fact sheet below.

I have attached some data of the Setup log.  Please let me me if more is needed.

Take a look in your Applications folder to install OS X El Capitan.app, if you drag to the trash and delete.

Restart your Mac and try the download again.

You have backed up your system to Snow Leopard, you really have to do that if there is no problem

You can always restore to a working system.

Its a big leap then have you prepared, for example, have you checked to see if the third party apps you have

are compatible with El Capitan and updates. You will probably lose iPhoto and Aperture if you have installed them.

You can partition your drive and install a copy of the El Capitan, for the test and start between the two

until you feel able to El Capitan, and then make the leap.

A lot of things to think about.

  • Relocation of Snow Leopard on an iMac Mid-2011

I recently bought a used iMac for my daughter (27 mid-2011 "Core i7, 3.4 GHz) who's been upgraded to El Capitan. I want to set up as a dual-boot machine, with a small Snow Leopard partition so that it can run some old but still useful PowerPC under Rosetta software. (Snow Leopard is the operating system provided with this iMac, so there should be no material inconsistency.) I have not received no installer discs with the iMac, but have an installer for Snow Leopard DVD I bought for updating an iMac of 2006 now-dead Leopard.

When I insert the DVD, the installation icon has an 'X' through it and will not start, and the Setup icon is dimmed in the System Preferences/Startup Disk window. If I try to start the iMac from the installation disc, I get a kernel panic and do a forced shutdown. I'm guessing that El Capitan (and probably earlier who succeeded Snow Leopard) defines something in the PRAM or elsewhere which prevents the installation of an older operating system. Further, I guess the only way to get around this is to reformat the discs (it has a HD and SSD) and start with Snow Leopard on a machine "blank." (Other that the hassle, I have no problem doing this, as I still customize Mac.)

Someone can confirm this conjecture, or suggest a simpler approach?

    Ken Henningsen

Apples are animals different from Windows systems.  Machines designed for a version of the operating system cannot run a version prior to the exception in a virtual machine.

My * early *-2011 MBP came with 10.6.7, but the "detail disk" is 10.6.3.  My machine cannot boot from the drive of retail.

Please call 1-800-APL-CARE, give them (not us in the free gallery) serial number, pay $20 for processing or shipping to get copies of the original installation discs.

  • -> Lion (Delete Boot Camp Partition) Snow Leopard?

I am currently on an iMac under Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (2.4 Ghz C2D, 4 GB of RAM, with VMware 3.1.3). I have Windows XP as a Boot Camp partition, but recently, I've downloaded the tool VMware Converter from VMware and I am now running XP via a Vitural Machine (saved in the My Documents folder).

I can't install Lion because it cannot create the recovery disk and there is an error with my scores (I don't remember the exact wording). I'm guessing that it's because of my Boot Camp partition that has XP installed on it, which is no longer compatible with Lion.

My question is: since I converted the Boot Camp partition in a Virtual Machine, can I remove the Boot Camp partition and still be able to run XP?

It's on my iMac at work, and I rely on XP for 75% of my work, so I make sure that I always have access to XP via the Virtual Machine.

    Thanks in advance!

My question is: since I converted the Boot Camp partition in a Virtual Machine, can I remove the Boot Camp partition and still be able to run XP?

    The short answer is Yes.

The longer answer is to make sure that you run only a normal file based Virtual Machine and a virtual Boot Camp Machine partition not before deleting.

It's on my iMac at work, and I rely on XP for 75% of my work, so I make sure that I always have access to XP via the Virtual Machine.

If there is a system of work, then you shouldn't be move to Lion still and wait for at least the first version of Lion and a version of VMware Fusion, which is officially certified to be fully compatible with Mac OS X Lion before the upgrade.

  • How can I create a bootable USB of OSX Snow Leopard on a MacBook with El Capitan?

HI there, the hard drive failed on my MacBook unibody aluminum end 2008. a couple of years ago, I put in 8 GB of RAM so my thought has been that it is not yet time to entirely replace the MacBook. I replaced the drive HARD failed with a 500 GB compatible hard drive. I tried and failed to install El Calitan via a bootable USB key, because my machine is too old. I just ordered a copy of the Snow Leopard DVD on the Apple store. I wonder how I can install snow leopard on my computer, given that the DVD player on this subject does not? I am able to create a Version bootable USB of Snow Leopard on MacBook for my roommate? He is running to El Capitan. Could someone explain if this is possible and if so, how?

Can I install OS X OS X 10.11 El Capitan is on this computer? Will I need to have Mac OS X Lion mountain 10.8, or OS X Lion, installed before installation El Capitan?

I have to get newer versions of iWork 09, once I have install OS X 10.11 El Capitan?

    Thank you for your help.

You can go to depends on what your model is compatible with. You cannot install Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite because they are no longer available.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

    My applications are compatible?

See table of application - RoaringApps compatibility

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

Hi, I am looking to disable the creative cloud on an iMac running 10.8.5. I watched a video showing how do I turn off, but the info was not applicable to this software. I would like to install on another machine, running on two, including the one I would turn off.

  • very slow iMac, running el Capitan

My iMac has been gradually slow down over the months. I thought that the update to el Capitan would have helped, but it didn't - but I don't think he's done worse.  Every thing I do on the Mac is slow. When I opened the window of the application of the sidebar, it takes several seconds to draw all icons. Opening of Firefox or Safari takes minutes and moving between tabs is almost impossible.

I repaired disk permissions, zap my PRAM, reset the SMC and booted in safe mode and Open firefox has a little faster but the opening request file has been slower. Perhaps. It was probably the same substantially.

I have an iMac running 10.11.4, with Intel core i5 2.7 GHz, 8GM memory and 470 GB free on the hard drive. Activity monitor shows that the activity monitor using most of the CPU (1.6%) with Firefox on the same.

I am really frustrated with this. I thought my computer was pretty new, but can I do? Thanks for any help.

Because it seems as popular to do something, I have downloaded and run Etrecheck. Pasted below results. Thanks to all those who can help you.

  • How long the mid 2007 iMac, running El Capitan 10.11.6 rely on Apple?

    Hi all

I was dreading the day where it would happen, but with the release of the Sierra of the OS, I see that my iMac mid 2007 is no longer able to update for Sierra. I am El Capitan 10.11.6 running without any problems and always up-to-date security, etc. I would like to know how long my iMac will be supported by Apple and for how long it will be safe to use.

    Thank you!

It is usually 7-8 years for the material, if you are already past. I don't know what's calendar from Apple for the OS, but you're on the latest version of El Capitan and I guess they will award updates security for a little; However, since Sierra was published, the focus has shifted to who and I expect updates to security for a past OS for over a year about.

  • How to put on a new iMac running El Capitan iPhoto?

I have an iMac 2007 end running Yosemite 10.10.5 with only 4 GB of memory.  It has iPhoto 9.6.1 I downloaded on the App store in late 2014.  I use it extensively for thousands of photos.  I intend to move to a new iMac, or possibly one of the Apple laptops in a month.  There El Capitan.

Reading these forums, I understand that el Capitan will run iPhoto if it is of a certain version which, I believe, iPhoto 9.6.1 qualifies.  I would also say that the App store in my list of "Bought" an iPhoto to buy in late 2014, this which I think is the version that I use now. I have also some Time Machine backups.

My question is what would the process of loading the application on the new iMac iPhoto?  After you have configured the new iMac I would go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application); or maybe transfer from a Time Machine backup sort.  Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.  Also after loading iPhoto on the new iMac how I would get my number (four) iPhoto libraries on the new iMac?

I realize has 'Photos' will in the future with Apple and that I might convert some time, but at that time iPhoto are perfect for me and am not ready to change right now.

    Thanks for any help

    1. here's how:

After you have configured the new iMac would be go to the App store and download this version (even if it has a button 'Open' However as opposed to a button "Download" next to the iPhoto application)

It says 'Open' now that it's on your machine. On the new, he'll say 'download '.

    2. This is not a problem in any form:

Reading these forums, I understand that you must pay attention to setting up a new iMac, that is, that some people have unconsciously converted their libraries to the new 'Photos' and does iPhoto can't go back - al least without too much difficulty.

Photos does nothing for an iPhoto library at all. It creates a new version that works for himself, but leaves the completely intact iPhoto library. You just have to worry about this.

Be absolutely certain that you will have to switch to a new application. Sooner or later, a version of the operating system will come along who are not running iPhoto. Unfortunately, the app is a dead-end.

  • iMac running El Capitan 10.11.5 close

Nothing except the power button will cause my iMac to close.  No other features stop methods (Apple > Shut Down or Ctrl > Option > Cmd > Eject have no effect). The computer puts ups a close box, count down, then the process stops.  I tried this in my own profile and with a guest profile no other software running.

There is now an update waiting to be installed, but as part of its installation routine he wants to shut down the computer and restart.  She cannot complete this routine, so I'm stuck.

    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Thank you

Make sure to stop applications before your Mac stops.

If you are not sure that there are running applications, you can use the hotkey to force quit.

    Command + Option + ESC

  • Daily computer crashes on iMac running El Capitan

My computer (a late 2015, retina 5K, iMac 27-inch running OS 10.11.3) breaks down every day, sometimes twice a day. I contacted Apple Care and they run the diagnostics with no apparent problems. The only solution is to put into the computer, which is extremely annoying, and something I prefer to do as a last resort (it means stop my production for a day or two, probably reinstall software 25 +, lose me a little time of billing, etc.).

This is the last report (from this morning) kernel panic. If anyone can shed some light on what could be the problem, I would really appreciate it.
