How to map ports to guest operating system?

Hi all:

I installed the new server of vmware on Redhat Linux AS5 and created a virtual machine and installed another operating system, the use of the guest operating system NAT to connect the host operating system. the host operating system has a public IP address. It seems work. the guest can access the internet.

but I want the prompt that OS can run an internet service, such as a mail server. I use iptable card some ports for the guest operating system, but it did not work. I don't know that the firewall rules are correct, because if I use the computer to run the guest operating system, it will work.

the following iptables rules:

iptables t nat - a PREROUTING d 210.x.x.x Pei tcp m multiport - destination-port 25,110,143,465,993,995-j DNAT - destination 192.168.5.1

iptables-t nat - an OUTPUT - dst 210.x.x.x Pei tcp m multiport - destination-port 25,110,143,465,993,995-j DNAT - destination 192.168.5.1

iptables-t nat - an OUTPUT - dst 127.0.0.1 Pei tcp m multiport - destination-port 25,110,143,465,993,995-j DNAT - destination 192.168.5.1

is - that someone has an idea?

Hello

I think you should edit the file nat.conf on your host computer.

Have you read the related chapter in p.251 Manual ?

Same problem for me, but I found the solution via google a few weeks ago and I think there's a post on this forum about this as well. But here's my version...

in your user directory, it must be a directory .vmware.

Inside this directory must be a file named config, otherwise create it

in the config file should be a line like this:

    xkeymap.nokeycodeMap = true

If this isn't there, add it.

Remotely close sessions and reconnect. Problem solved!

Other messages on the Internet are talking about doing this on the host machine when running VMware workstation, but it works well enough for the VMware remote console.

Sure just what do you on the computer that is running the Remote Console and not the host machine, run the virtual machine.

  • Serial port under guest operating system does not work

Running VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 on win 7-64 bit. Guest operating system is win 7 32 AND Windows XP (32 bit). I followed the instructions on connecting to the host serial port. However, there is no access to serial port a guest OS. Serial Port sniffer running on the host shows NO ACTIVITY on the port operating system serial host.

Even serial device, attached and if running on the host works very well.

    Any ideas?

    Steve

I doubt that the documentation is correct for what is with VMplayer 3 on Windows TGV serial ports is.
    Read my notes http://faq.sanbarrow.com/index.php?solution_id=1007

I removed the option of thinprint and reconfigured the serial port in the vmx file attached.

Turn off the virtual machine and replace the existing by the attached vmx file.
    Then try again

If it still does not - change
    Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = "FALSE".
    TO
    Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = 'true '.

  • How to activate HV in guest operating system

I use VMworkstation 6.5 on windows vista ultimate 64. I installed Windows 7 RC1 64 bit on a virtual machine. Virtualized in Windows 7 windows xp mode requires hardware virtualiztion to run. I HV activate in my host bios and Windows 7 in my VM correctly identifies my CPU but there is no setting in the bios of comments to turn the HV. I read tne VMX settings file to the sanbarrow but have not seen all the settings to activate the HV within a guest operating system. Can anyone help? The feature of Windows 7 that I was more interested in checking out is how they well intigrated XP virtualization and legacy 16-bit app support for their new OS.

No case - you can not move the CPU features required to a VM guest.

  • I - delta.vmdk files, non - .vmsn files. How to restore the instant guest operating system?

    Hello

Coincidentally, using the browser data store, I've deleted almost all the files in one of the guest OS. Only files vmdk (dish and delta) have survived. So far I've managed to run (using this link http://tinyurl.com/yda5f8d ( ) the guest using OS his - flat.vmdk file and it works very well. The problem is, it's an operating system in the former State, and I would go back to the last snapshot (I have two actually).

I have ESXi 3.5 and the use of the Mode of Tech support. So I base (flat) file and not visible (from vClient) snapshot two working files. Browser data store using I can see them under delta.vmdk - 000001-xxx and xxx-000002 - delta.vmdk. Should what kind of magic I type in the console to restore my operating system in the lates snapshot? It's ok to merge these snapshots in a main flat file if it would be faster or easier.

    Concerning

    Piotr

OK, let's give it a try.

Attached you will find a collection of files that are generated, assuming that the snapshot 000002 was the last. I'll give you the steps to make sure that the current data files will not be affected where 000001 was the last snapshot.

    1. delete the virtual machine of the inventory
    2. Download files attached to the virtual machine file
    3. Delete the w2003r2.vmsd file if it exists.
    4. Right-click on the vmx file and select "add to the inventory.
    5. Open the virtual machine settings and uncheck the box "connect to power on" for the network card (only to make sure that the virtual machine does not connect to the network, where the snapshots are not in the right order)
    6. Important: Create a new snapshot, and to ensure that the new vmdk file is referenced in the disk of the virtual machine settings

Now you can try it without risk of turning the virtual computer and check if everything seems OK. I suggest that you take a look at the Windows event logs and check if the last entries are from the scheduled date. Because you have turned on on the VM from the file (flat) base, run 'chkdsk /f' for all readers to solve possible problems.

If this doesn't seem to be the right order, please report and I will edit the files to make snapshot 000001 the current.

Once everything is ok you should really consider deleting snapshots. To ensure that this does no new issues, please provide the build number of your hosts ESXi and the amount of free disk space on the data store!

  • How can you change the guest operating system on a host after 4.0 set to level.

On ESXi 3.5 U4 all FreeBSD guests were built with "Other Linux (32 bit)".  How can I change them to FreeBSD (32 bit) now that I've upgraded to 4.0?  I stop the host and I tried to change it but it does not give me the option to FreeBSD.

The virtual machine must be turned off before upgrade you your virtual hardware. If you click on a turned off the virtual computer, you will have an option that says upgrade virtual hardware

You should be able to do it with the cmdlet Get-Stat .

    Something like that

    Get-Stat -Entity (Get-VM $vmName) -Stat mem.usage.maximum -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-7) | Measure-Object -Property value -Maximum | Select Maximum

This will return the maximum percentage in the last 7 days for the guests, whose name is stored in the variable $vmName.

    Hello

According to Manual of VMware server, you can only discard all changes the disk not persistent after power out voltage or reset.

You can use the reset vmrun command if you want to turn off your virtual machine. You must use the reset option (it has the same function as Reset button on the real machine).
