Serial port under guest operating system does not work

Running VMWare Workstation 7.1.3 on win 7-64 bit. Guest operating system is win 7 32 AND Windows XP (32 bit). I followed the instructions on connecting to the host serial port. However, there is no access to serial port a guest OS. Serial Port sniffer running on the host shows NO ACTIVITY on the port operating system serial host.

Even serial device, attached and if running on the host works very well.

Any ideas?

Steve

I doubt that the documentation is correct for what is with VMplayer 3 on Windows TGV serial ports is.
Read my notes http://faq.sanbarrow.com/index.php?solution_id=1007

I removed the option of thinprint and reconfigured the serial port in the vmx file attached.

Turn off the virtual machine and replace the existing by the attached vmx file.
Then try again

If it still does not - change
Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = "FALSE".
TO
Serial0.yieldOnMsrRead = 'true '.

It seems that the virtual NETWORK adapter is not installed on the client, otherwise, you would see an adapter in the comments "ipconfig" with an APIPA address.

Install the VMware tools in the comments (you always do). It contains the correctdrivers for the virtual card.

  • Problems of migration to a new system - guest operating system does not work

I've been running VMware Player on a Win 7 64 bit laptop.  I have 3 computers of customers, which is 32-bit Win XP.  I've just set up a new machine, also running Win 7 64 bit, but a processor more recent (i7) and more memory (32 GB).  I use the same version of the player on both machines (4.0.1 build-528992).  I copied all the files from the laptop to the new office.  Ubuntu and Mac OS X Lion customers will work perfectly.  When I try to run the client Win XP, I get the following message:

File not found: Windows XP Mode base.vhd

This file is required to power on this virtual machine.  If this file has been moved, please provide its new location.

I don't have a VHD file, I have a VMDK file (again, which works fine on the laptop).  I tried turn off the virtual machine on the laptop, then copying the files to the desktop, and I also tried to suspend, both with the same results.  When I try to change the settings of the virtual machine on the new desktop, clicking on the adjustment of the hard drive (IDE) causes the following message:

The parent of this virtual disk could not be opened.

The VMDK file is 19.2 GB.  I've searched and searched trying to find why this could happen and found nothing.  The XP machine has a good bit of responsible software that I use on a daily basis.  Last resort, I could create a virtual XP machine on the new desktop and reload all the software, but strongly prefer not to do it - it would be a tedious task.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could happen and how to fix it?  I copied the files several times to ensure that it is not something simple like a damaged copy.  I'm puzzled.  The XP machine was NOT initially a WIndows XP Mode machine, even if the message indicates that VMware Player seems to think it is (and, again, it works fine on the laptop).  The name of the virtual machine is "WIndows XP Mode" - maybe that's why he complains.  Is it possible to rename all of the files and references to files to resolve this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the community,

  • Adding SCSI - HOST OS card works fine, GUEST operating system does not see the new hardware

I have a HOST Windows XP Pro SP3 with VMWare v6.5.2 running Windows Server 2003 R2 STD, SP2 as OS GUEST running on any new Dell Precision T3500 Workstation.

I've closed the COMMENTS and then HOST. Installed an Adeptec SCSI 39160 card in the PC. The card is a 64-bit and is installed in a PCI 32-bit slot. (It is backwards compatible with 32 - bit)

Powered on PC. Install the drivers of Adeptec on the HOST. Works fine and I can see the card under Windows XP. Rebooted and everything is always OKm POST shows the installed card and search devices. I have no device attached at this point.

GUEST operating system has started and it does not automatically detect the card. Tried to run the Add Hardware Wizard and same result. Tried to use VMWare to install the new Hard ware with no result.

Can tell you how I can get the OS TO see / use the new SCSI card?

  • Qosmio G10: The operating system does not work corectly

Hello. My problem is that my windows xp does not work corectly, mousecursor, sounds, videos, games, programs, everything turns into a ' stop and go '. as the cpu slows all the 1-2 seconds. I reinstalled windows now 4 times and any document in the format hd´s.

Don t know what to do...

and a second question... maybe this could be the answer for the first ;-)

in my hardware-registration of my system windows are two elements, for I can't find a driver.

    -PCI-Device
    -videocontroller fuer multimedia (German ;-))
in English systems, maybe it's the multimedia "media control device" or "videocontroller" or something...

does anyone know if I can get the drivers, because they´re not listed on the toshiba site. and my backup-disk system was stolen. (sounds strange... I know :-))

OK, please give me some advice, if you have any ideas!

    THX a lot, patrick

    Hello Patrick

First of all, it will be interesting to know if the unit is pre-installed by recovery media. The installation of Qosmio is quite complicated, and I recommend you use the restore CD.

In this way it is not possible to give a precise answer because I don't know what kind of things is installed on your device. I guess in your case, some application (such as the virus scan) runs in the background and your HARD drive can be pointed out.

If your recovery DVDs is stolen, you can order a partner of service authorized in your country.

    Good bye

Altogether. You just need to create one of these.

For starters, you can find more information on how to do it on the http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3i_e/r35/vi3_35_25_3i_server_config.pdf page29

Having been forced to upgrade too because I need to process RAW images from the 2 7 using Photoshop, I can tell my updates went well. I bought Win 8.1 & done a clean install on a new hard drive & waited to win 10 out & from my old programs would continue to operate. 10 once was readily available that I made an another clean install on another hard drive as an installation & nine 64-bit (added 16 gigabytes of memory also) & things was great when working in Photoshop, BUT for all those who 7 2 treatment check CR2 what device profile is best. By default, it chooses an Adobe profile that works very well with my other camera files but Standard camera looks better with 7 2 files.

(My computer has provisions for 5 internal hard drives & I 5) I can easily re boot for XP or Win 8.1 if I need to use one of my old programs, but so far, I've been running Win 10 on my office & XP on my laptop.

  • Guest operating system does not use the entire disk space

    Hello world.

I'm kind new to the ESXi.

When you use ESXi5, I am facing a problem with disk space.

As you can see in the image below, I posted 600Gigs for my guest OS (CentOS).

But I have found that the OS actually uses only 90Gigs as seen in the image below.

Do you have a suggestion for this? Or any idea why it is that way?

  • Can query serial port with NI MAX, but does not work in Labview

I'm controlling a 488 Sapphire consistent with labview. It is connected by a series of converter USB in the computer. I can communicate with a device using NI MAX, but when I try to run the vi (attached), he works for multiple queries, but evetually returns a null character, after which I can no longer communicate with the port. If I then go into the NI MAX interface, whenever I try to read it give "VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0015) timeout expired before the operation ended" error message. There are also several queriess of the manual of the instrument which do not seem to work at all (with or without MAX) and always returns a null character. Any help is appreciated. I'm definitely a novice with the communication of the device. Thank you.

Usually a problem with the stop character.

And you send-r and no CarriageReturn.

  • How to map ports to guest operating system?

    Hi all:

I installed the new server of vmware on Redhat Linux AS5 and created a virtual machine and installed another operating system, the use of the guest operating system NAT to connect the host operating system. the host operating system has a public IP address. It seems work. the guest can access the internet.

but I want the prompt that OS can run an internet service, such as a mail server. I use iptable card some ports for the guest operating system, but it did not work. I don't know that the firewall rules are correct, because if I use the computer to run the guest operating system, it will work.

    the following iptables rules:

    iptables t nat - a PREROUTING d 210.x.x.x Pei tcp m multiport - destination-port 25,110,143,465,993,995-j DNAT - destination 192.168.5.1

is - that someone has an idea?

    Hello

I think you should edit the file nat.conf on your host computer.

Have you read the related chapter in p.251 Manual ?

Just out of curiosity, why all these steps? Why not simply do step 9?

    1. #9 step alone can not have solved the behaviour & we wanted to be certain that no "leftovers" Norton formed the scr3wing things.

    2. I wanted to do some (possible) that your computer is not infected.
