The "Ask Toolbar" that caused in versions of Firefox 3.6.13 +. Uninstall this extension.
There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:
- Check the control panel Windows for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
- Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

How to open a new tab and opens automatically to my homepage
When I open a new tab, it goes straight to the snapdo.com. How can I change this so when I opened a new tab it opens directly to google without having to type in, or clicking on a bookmark button?
There is a setting for new tabs...
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter your favorite page:
- (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
- Blank tab = > subject: empty
- Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
- Any other page = > full URL of the page
Note: when changing to Google, use a full URL ultimate as https://www.google.com/ - if you use a partial URL, there will be a few seconds while Google Firefox redirects this ultimate URL.
Press Ctrl + t to open a new tab and check that it worked. Fixed?
Two traps:
- If Firefox ignores the setting, one of your extensions may be substitution of her. You can consult, disable and/or remove extensions on the addons page:
Tools menu > Modules > in the left column click on Extensions
- If the amendment works but at the next startup is back at Google, you might have a user.js file in your personal settings Firefox (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and delete the file: How to fix preferences that will not save.
A little luck?

Question
I just upgraded to FF 3 FF9 and in the process lost my 'New tab' button, and there isn't one in the view > customization window. So, how manually open a new tab in FF9?To open the window to customize the toolbar, do one of the following:
- Firefox button > Options > toolbars
- Press ALT or F10 to temporarily show the Menu bar and choose from there (view > toolbars > customize)
- Hold DOWN the ALT key while pressing the VTC keyboard letters
See-> https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36
Regarding the new button tab, you see the end a '+' after the last tab or the right of the tab bar? This is the icon of the new tab.
- CTRL + T will open a new tab

How to open a new tab after the current browsing session.
I used to use the new King of the tab, and when I opened a new tab, it would still open the new tab the very right of my session, the gap and not somewhere randomly in the middle. However, I wanted my restored windows to open where I had closed my session. I've since changed to use the new tab more instead and it worked the same way before, but since I've updated for firefox 26, he seems to have reset this option (and others), it opens in the middle of the session now instead of the end.
I don't know what you mean by the middle of the session.
Do you mean in the middle of the bar tabs in the current window? There is a setting to make it open a link in a new tab adjacent to the page where you clicked on the link, or always at the end of the tab bar. If this is what you mean, here's how you can activate:
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste the tabs and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double-click the preference browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent from true to false.
But I'm not sure that's what you hear... also, extensions can replace Firefox built-in behaviors with their own settings tab.

By opening a new web browser window my chosen site associated with my home page opens automatically, but each new tab open then [in this window] is empty. How do you define new tabs opening with the site, just like the initial tab only when you open the browser window?
You can do this by using an add-on such as:
- NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
- New tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way to open the home page in a new tab is in the Middle, click the home button in the navigation toolbar.

We have seen reports on an extension of community toolbar causing this problem of not being able to open a new tab.
Your list of details of the system indicates:- Installl converter Community Toolbar 3.21.0.1
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
- Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

AsifFound. However by doing this, you will not be able to have the Firefox Orange button too.
-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to display the Menu bar
-> go to the Menu view-> toolbars-> select menu bar
You don't need to set the button (+) tab on the tape tabs either. Check and tell if its working.

How to open a new tab that does not replace a tab open?
When this site talks about a method of 'open a new tab' and I use it, what I get is a new tab which is superimposed on (replace) a tab already open. It is not my goal. I would like to be able to open a new adjacent tab, which I can do by clicking on the + sign at the end of all open tabs. I want a shortcut for this.

How to open a new tab from the window with a single white (or other)?
I'm embarrassed to ask what should be a simple question. I want to open a new window without containing all of the tabs in my homepage - a single tab, empty, or Mozilla or Google or something. I'm tired of having to close manually the 30 - something tabs in my homepage.
Several solutions for this.
(I am not sure you are trying to do or to prevent).- change what's in your homepage
- set to open only a couple of tabs and one of those who make a blank page
tabs are separated by the vertical bar that is vertical (possibly split) symbol |
- set to open only a couple of tabs and one of those who make a blank page
- Open your previous tabs instead of the whole home page
- change the options to open new sites in a new window instead of a new tab

Last week my 'new tab' ability has stopped working, the tab at the top of the page or even going to file, new tab. I have to open a new page each time. I reinstalled firefox and did not help.
Hello ctoles, you can try to reproduce this behavior when you start firefox in safe mode, once? If not, perhaps an addon intrudes here... (another user reported that the ask toolbar could cause this problem)
