  I don't know what is Windows HP, but I'll give you the answer that applies if you hear a version of Vista (and some or most of it except the links and snapshot procedures apply to XP as well).

  If it's a Word document, see the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316951 that applies to situations exactly like this.  It is not impossible, but it is difficult and the chances of success are not very good - but it's worth a try.

  If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, shadow copies is not available; However, there is an alternative that is free and the shadow copies feature called Shadow Explorer. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/.  Although it will not help you this time, it could very well save you in case this happens again.

  Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they generally offer no guarantees.  The decision is yours.

  If the file is located in your Creative Cloud Files folder and sync files is running, then you can restore to a previous version of a file.

  Log on to the site active CC in a browser and go to https://assets.adobe.com/files. Select the file and select the activity tab.   Do you mean that you have run a chkdsk and it detected disk errors and attempted to remedy and that you are now looking to the files created by chkdsk (*.chk files)?

  The computer is configured to automatically perform a disk check.  He said this morning it was running a check disk and restore one of my files.  This file has been restored to a version much sooner, as well as several other files when I checked later.  I ran a check of the index that says he would restore the files, but that did not help.  It will only run chkdsk.  I think I'll have my paid gurus do.  Thanks for your help.
