How to recover shared folders
Hi gurus,
My shared folders has been deleted and I would like to know if there is a way to retrieve this file?
Thanks in advance

No, you're pretty screwed, unless you go to the bottom of some courses of computer forensics to recover the 1s and 0s low-level the disks.
But - you had a backup, right?

How to enable shared folders on VMWare Tools under ESX4
On a windows server is running on a host ESX 4, VMWare Tools reports that the shared folders are currently disabled on the host.
How enable and use it?
Hello
(VMware Shared Folders) vmhgfs driver will not work with ESX or ESXi, it is only for the workstation, Fusion, a player of nd. I would put in a virtual firewall that denies all access and dev environment, until you're ready to share data.
You can then open a port on the firewall and have a system to capture these data via the port. The alternative is to use something like a Keyspan USB hub IP and write data on a USB key, and then physically move to the side of the "production" of the House.
In general I find instead of much easier virtual firewall... VMsafe even won't work here.

original title: How can you recover files, folders, software and drivers after reinstalling windows xp family? Please help, I've lost everything!
When the update Norton Internet Security 2009 to 2011 on reboot, windows cannot open.
Root\systems32\hal.dll Windows prevented windows from opening. My machine in a Dell dimension 8300.
On a Dell website, I found a method of recovery if you can reinstall windows xp from cd. I was able to do it, but lost all my files. How can I recover all my fortune, images, software, drivers, etc.? There must be a way to extract this information from the hard drive. Any help is the material and can save my marriage! Thank you.
Hi MarkS_02127,
Since you've reinstalled windows, you will need to re - install applications once again, you will be lucky (if you format the drive) data on your computer. You remember that location, it was in my documents? If yes it just open C:\Documents and settings and locate your old username, you will find your old desktop, Favorites and Documents.

How to reset the shared folders, showing network after modified/deleted folder
System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Problem: after files moved or modified, they persist in network folder, for example:\\my-pc\
It seems that their ghosts never die. Even when I put the file back to what was before, they are not accessible, and read error message, "you might not have permission to use this network resource...". »
They are listed under ' computer management > shared folders > actions ", but I can't delete them or change them.
Why there is no easy way I can change the shared folders?
answer: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy *.
The only way I found to clean these entries is to use Regedit to edit the registry. First the standard warning from Microsoft:

I lost some data during a copy and paste procedure between folders on a thumb drive... any ideas how to recover this data?
I lost some data during a copy and paste procedure between folders on a thumb drive... any ideas how to recover this data?
If you did a copy and paste, the original files are left intact when they came. If you did a cut and paste, they are lost if you do not paste them and your paperweight (the location of storage to copy or cut and paste) was allowed. It would be cleared if you did quite exemplary or cuts too fill it, or if you rebooted.

How to activate the shared folders in the VMware tools
I'm running a Windows 2003 Server EE guest x 64 OS in a virtual machine hosted by ESXi 3.5 u4 build 199239. VMware tools have been updated to the latest version for this build ESX. In the VMware Tools Properties GUI the shared folders tab says "shared folders are currently disabled on the host computer. Please see VMware documentation to find out how to activate it. "I searched all the VMware Documentation and have not found the answer to this question.
Also, when folders are enabled it is my understanding that an addition is made to the guest OS network providers. What is the impact of the network provider of shared folders moving further towards the bottom of the list of purchase orders (network connections, advanced, advanced settings, purchase order).
As far as I KNOW, this is not possible if it running ESX (i)

The shared folders functionality is not supported by the ESX Server or GSX server, but is enabled when you install VMware Tools with the complete option. The feature is not enabled when you install VMware Tools with the typical option in respect of these products.

How to force the shared folders to work?
I have Windows 10 host and guest OS Windows 7. I have Visual Studio is installed on Windows 7 comments, and I'm trying to compile code that is located in the shared folders that I go up as network drive.
When I try to do this with Visual Studio 2013, library file contains all zeros (binary, I see it in hex editor). It's a bug of folder for sure, because otherwise (no folders) compilations is OK.
Is it possible to fix this bug and force the shared folders to do what they promised, i. e. to share files between the host and the guest operating system and do not write all zeros in the output file?
Hello
Not really, these types of problems hit the option files shared for many years.
Workshares of files for simple file sharing, but if you want to use as the project file in Visual Studio, then what you see is not really surprising.
Yes you can troubleshoot it and spent a lot of time trying to make it work. Which may or may not work.
However, the General recommendation is to use industry standard file sharing shares - for example native Windows - instead of construction option of share if you want to use for this type of scenario.
A common alternative is to develop locally within the virtual machine and share it with other computers using source control systems.

Shared folders in VMWare Fusion 2 - How do you see their VM?
I have shared folders enabled in the settings of the virtual machine - I used to have a shortcut to folder on my desktop virtual to a shared folder, but when I upgraded to VWare fusion 2 (starting from 1) the broken link, and I can not locate where the shared folders are mounted in my Vista VM now.
Where do I go to 'find' my shared folders in my VM?
Thank you - I do not know why it isn't painfully obvious in the documentation.
When you upgraded to Fusion 2, you updated of the tools in the comments? Have you tried to uninstall tools, by restarting the guest and installing the tools? Have you checked that a HGFS folder is always set up?

How to: recover disk space by removing the updates of windows installation files
Original title : Software updates to XP Pro do take the disk space that can be reclaimed by removing downloaded files?
I want to recover disk space which can have useless files. Once an update is installed, the downloaded file can be deleted and if so, where they are on my drive?
Please note this is only for Windows XP and is not on Vista or Windows 7
Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.
These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.
