How to reformat a hard drive

I had a 500 GB with a damaged file system.  I used a program that allowed me to copy all my files back, but the drive does not work in my computer.

I thought that since I copied all my files on I can just reformat the drive, backup.  Well, I reformatted it and now it is 465 GB.  Accessible through station work, but even in disk management it says that there are no unrecognized partitions that are occupying this space.

How can I completely reformat the HDD to 500 GB?

Nothing is missing. You see two different ways to define a "gigabyte".  Drive manufacturers commonly use one that gives the highest number.

From a technical point of view, a gigabyte is 1.073.741.824 bytes (1024 x 1024 x 1024).  But drive manufacturers say a gigabyte is 1 000 000 000 bytes.  A disc that is advertised as '500 GB' was 50,000,000,000 bytes, which is technically 465,66 GB.

Since you have a Dell and a recovery CD and not a recovery Partition, check how many partitions you need by using disk management:

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_management.htm

In case you have a partition with the operating system and a partition of the utility partition, I would only recommend formatting the partition from the OS. The Partition utility can be very useful.

  • Reformat a hard drive, but it still appears in "Tabs on other computers." How can I remove it?

Recently, I reformatted the hard drive in a PC and do not break the link of the account synchronization before doing so. The machine continues to be present when I pull down the menu option "Tabs from other computers"., even if I have not installed Firefox hard disk cool. How do I remove it from the list?

    Hello!

Unfortunately it is not possible at this stage. If something bothers you, next time you format a drive hard or generally remove a device from this point of view you should "untie this device" tab sync in the Preferences window.

Because you cannot return to this specific Firefox profile, you can't do it, but don't worry, it will disappear eventually (the servers store information for ever).

If you really want to remove it, you need to reset the account and reconnect all devices. To do this, you need to reset the recovery key and set up the account on your computer again. This is the process that we recommend when a device is lost. Make sure that you have a backup of your information before starting the: replace your synchronized data

And for information about how to back up your profile, follow this link: back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox

  • How can I safely reformat my hard drive to boot?

Ok.  My mid-2011 Mac Mini is dead.  Graphics chip on the motherboard is gone belly up.  I have a second Mac Mini that was given to me by a friend who uses it is no longer.  Now, I want to load my apps on the new Mini.  First of all, I am trying to load Adobe CS6 but I get the following error:

The Adobe forums, seems, there is no way around this except to the reformat my hard drive to the search.  I'm OK with that because the guy who gave me this Mini essentially emptied all of his stuff is basically empty except all system files.  My question is: how to reformat this disk on a sensitive volume without respect I can boot from.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Kevin H.

At the start of the partition of disk or recovery that you will use to install the operating system, open disk utility, select the volume, click the Erase tab and specify the format desired.

How can I boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD so that I can reformat the hard drive before reinstalling Windows 7?  I have already reinstalled Windows 7 from the CD, but that has not solved my problems.  When I put the factory CD in my CD player, it won't always boot from the CD.  When I put my Windows 7 Ultimate CD in the CD drive, it doesn't always start from the CD.         I realize that the reformatting is not always necessary, but I caught a few viruses (despite anti-virus running) and I need to start with a clean hard drive.

You must go into the BIOS and change the boot on CD order
    first push.

How to get into your BIOS? It is not dependent on Windows, but on what he
motherboard/BIOS card that you have. In fact, you need access to the
BIOS before Windows begins to start. A common method is to press
the key delete when you turn on first, but this is not necessarily true
    for your computer. Watch the display carefully when you start first;
There is often a message here to tell you what to do. If this is not the case, check
your system documentation or check with your provider.

  • How can I reformat my hard drive to its original as pronounced when new?

Computer is 6 years old LDP. I want to reformat the hard drive so it "s in the original as new condition.

I know that this will destroy any addition of files & programs.

    Need directions.

Look at your manual owner and/or your OEM (manufacturer of the computer - like Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.) Frequently asked questions for your computer.  Probably you have a partition that can be used with right to restore keys or you have a CD/DVD set to use or you should make such CD/DVD set or you can call the manufacturer and which now get (probably for a small fee given age) or you have the Windows actually any installation CD/DVD and the product key on the system itself.

Please give details based on this new knowledge.

I have a satellite P30 laptop with Windows XP. I plug myself a new OS (namely because I can't find my old recovery CD CD and OS) that I want to do a re-shape full of my system. Reason is that my system has been painfully slower and slower over the last year. I even updated my RAM to 512 MB standard supplied with the machine to 2 GB, but it seems to have had little or no effect. So my questions are:-

1] where can I get my hands on the restore CD that has all the drivers on this subject, and any recovery CD to reformat my HARD drive?
[2] in the order in which I will make this reformatting?
How can [3] after having bought an external HARD drive to keep files that I don't want to lose, I transfer those of before my re - format?

    Hello

You received with the laptop Toshiba Recovery CD! Am I wrong?
    So what s the problem?

Simply insert the CD and try to boot from this CD.
The restore CD contains all Toshiba drivers, tools and utilities Windows OS + additional software like Win DVD for example.
The installation will set the laptop to factory settings, but will also format the HARD drive!

Up to now, we come to the point 3; --> How do I save the data
If you have purchased a second HDD and connect it to the USB port and transfer all the necessary files on the second HDD
If you have purchased only the HARD drive, then you will need a USB HDD 2.5 case.

    Best regards

    4. find the entry called games & check the box next to it.

    Hello

I saw the 0x0000007B BSOD caused by trying to install XP on a disk hard while the BIOS is designating the reader as AHCI instead of IDE. XP has no native AHCI drivers, resulting in a stop 7B. Unless the PC had originally Vista or Win 7, but it might be useful to check that it is not likely.

If the BIOS is set to AHCI, you could do one of three things (depending on whether your PC has a floppy drive)...

1 find the Setup F6 disk on AHCI support at installation time (start with the manufacturer's website if you do not already have such a thing). Watch the very hit F6 prompt early in the installation process.

    2. change the setting in BIOS on IDE / ATA

    3. create a new "slipstreaming" installation disc drivers AHCI in the existing installation disc, see http://www.nliteos.com/index.html

After the back if your BIOS is IDE / ATA

  • I had to do a system restore on my PC, which reformats the hard drive and he returned to factory State, and I lost all of my emails from OE and contacts. No way to get them back?

My computer crashed and the system recovery was the only option.  I know this reformats the hard drive and actually returned the PC to factory State, but I cannot now access all of my old emails and contacts on OE.  I managed to configure OE once again, so I can receive messages via my site, but really need to come back to the 'old'.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Two points:

Suggestions 1. see Bruce Hagen, but it is highly unlikely that you can get everything back. When you perform a system recovery, you lose everything that was on the disc.

    2. it is late to tell you this, but like you apparenly had no backup on external media, you're playing with fire. For the future, you can read this article I wrote: "how to return your computer regularly upward and reliable" to http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=314

    Hi Gvipercb,

    ·         You have your data backed up?

    ·         The laptop has been pre-installed with Windows XP?

If so, the product key should always hold good for resettlement.

  • Can't reformat the hard drive

Hello I do not know much about computers.  I'm trying to find a way to reformat the hard drive on my son computer for a clean installation of XP Pro.  Initially, XP Pro SP1 has been installed on my IBM Thinkpad.  I have automatic updates must occur on the computer so over time, the service pack has been upgraded to SP3.  The corruption of the computer does not restore system, internet access and several programs running on the device.  When I try to format the hard disk with my XP Pro SP1 disk fails because the system is currently running SP3.  I tried to uninstall SP3, but the system does not.
What do other options I have order of the reformat the system drive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rrmay,

Thanks for posting. If you try to reinstall XP you can put your OS drive on your computer, or use the OEM recovery media to reinstall XP.

PERFORMING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL ERASE ALL DATA IN CUSTODY: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE CONTINUING.

The OEM recovery media format the computer and automatically return to the plant as if it was when you first it lit. If you have XP software at retail, you can do the following to format and reinstall.

Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XP, a new installation is to remove all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstall the operating system and programs empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format your hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
