How to rename a data warehouse space

Hello

I had to adjust my names of LUN space reserved to the company names naming standard. I did it on the level of vsphere, but MRS. (5.5) can still see the old names.

Restarting the service did not help.

Should I remove and re-add? Maybe I should return the names above and then delete/rename and add?

Much appreciated, regards suspicion.

Hello

Please remove and re-add to reflect the new data store names. Note that the new name appears in the placeholder add datastore.

Kind regards

Nik

  • Rename local data warehouses of ESXi host

    Hello

How to rename local data warehouses of 5.0 ESXi hosts.

Is it simple; Vsphere Client > right click on the local data store > rename?

Or host must be in maintenance, or reduced, something like that?

    Thank you

    Mihir

The ESXi host internally uses the data UUID store rather than its "friendly" name

    Example: / vmfs/volumes/3dfd1a21-63969d0d-8d9b-004328272635 /.

That is why - as mentioned in the other responses - rename a datstore can be done at any time without affecting the functionality.

  • Problem renaming of data warehouses and networks

I have recently upgraded a number of servers to ESX 4.1 to 5 ESXi and vCenter vCenter 4 5 and have noticed a problem. Whenever I have rename a data store or a network, the new name is added to the list of network or data store, but the old name is too present. In the past, if I had a data store and renamed her, I'd still only 1 ad for the renamed data store. With ESXi 5, I have two - the former name and the new name. It goes the same for networks. And they always appear in vCenter as being attached to the host. I tried to disconnect/reconnect vcenter, removing the host and add it again, restart the ESX host and always the old names appear.  If I look at the host through vShpere, everything seems OK with the renowned name 1.  But vCenter can't seem to let go of the old data store names and network.  Any ideas?

I can't tell you for sure. This has to do with the return to a snapshot of the IMO. If you have a single host and back to a snapshot you will be logged out anyway (if the Group of ports of origin no longer exists). In a cluster, you will have the opportunity of the first migration/vMotion virtual computer to another host that maintains such a group of port before returning to a snapshot. As I said, just a thought.

  • How to remove ghost data warehouses?

Hi, I recently migrated my storage LUN from storage to another. After the migration, I had to activate resignaturing display the same LUNS in the new storage. In the new storage LUNS are presented as snapshot *.

I have re - label LUNS and re-save the VMs.

However, I wasn't able to delete old data warehouses. See "datastore", try to remove the old data store results in "the data store cannot be deleted because it is in use by one or more virtual hosts." Try to remove ESX server - & gt; Configuration - & gt; Storage means by "the application refers to an object that is no longer exist or didn't ever exist."

Is there a way to delete the old warehouses of data that no longer exists?

    Thank you!

I had a similar problem, and I think that I rebooted the host esx and this sorted it.

  • How to navigate the data warehouses to run vmkfstools

I am a huge n00b at VMAs, vCLI, PowerCLI, etc..

I'm trying to clone a virtual machine using ESXi. I have installed vMA and I already added to my server through vifpadd server and I already have vifpinit on my server. But I don't know what's next? How to view my data stores so I can run a-i against my VM vmkfstools?

    Thank you

There are many ways to 'Browse', some of the default scripts canned are not the best but you can basically get you for example need to locate the VMDK (s) of a virtual machine if you already know the data store or the host.

    Take a look at /usr/lib/vmware-vcli/apps/host/dsbrowse.pl

With the remote version of the vmkfstools, the arguments of the command for the VMDK are slightly different and not what you would be used to fi you worked only with classic Service Console vmkfstools. Within the VMware API defines a path by using the following format:

    folder/anotherfolder/anotheranotherfolder \[datastore_name\]

So, to make it more concrete, allows that we have datatstore1 and datastore2 and we have a virtual machine named 'myvm' and he lives on datastore1 and there 1 vmdk named 'myvm.vmdk' and 'myvm - flat hard. " Now you want to copy VMDK myvm to datastore2 and a folder "virtualmachines/myvm-clone".

Now if you went on your ESX or ESXi host, you will see the following for 'myvm"on datastore1

    /vmfs/volumes/MyVM/MyVM.vmx

    /vmfs/volumes/MyVM/MyVM.VMDK

    /vmfs/volumes/MyVM/MyVM-flat.VMDK

    .. .etc

Now to copy real vmkfstools using the vCLI:

    "[vmkfstools-i \[datastore1\] myvm/myvm.vmdk d thin \[datastore2\] virtualmachines/myvm-clone/myvm-clone.vmdk.

    * The assumption is that the "virtualmachines/myvm-clone" subdirectory exisats and again, manipulation of the file system can be done using sharp also well documented by Dave Mischenko to http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vifs.php

Once again, it should be well documented in the vCLI guide and canned the additional scripts can be found here: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl40/doc/vsperl_util_index.html

I wrote also a collection of scripts using the vSphere SDK for Perl which is what the vCLI is written that provides additional automation and we hope to improve what exists in the vSphere API through these scripts that are non-PS: repository of scripts vGhetto

If I ask that you spend time going through the documentation, once you understand how it works, it's pretty simple to use, Yes, it's not clean and some things may be curious of what some, but hopefully the repository I created will be help in any feature/functions missing in all default canned scripts. The main point that I want to drive a lot of people may not understand is, what you can make in vSphere client against a host ESX (i) OR PowerCLI or VI Java can also be done with vSphere SDK for Perl, it may not all be created within the vCLI, but that's all using the same API exposed , it's just how is pulled up and I have to give him the PS guys, they did a good job of that and therefore the ease of use and understanding.

I hope this clears up things and let me know if you have more questions.

  • How to rename a data via command store during automatic installation

Hi, the automatic installation of my servers esx and post script exec I wan't to rename the local data store to esx 3.5. I tried to find a solution here in communities and also tried the following commands

    • vimsh - n e "datastore/hostsvc / / rename oldname newname.

    • VMware-vim-cmd hostsvc/datastore/rename oldname newname.

but nothing happens when I use these commands and I get no error message.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong and how can I rename local warehouses of data via command line?

    Thankx

    Frank

We have a set of post scripts that are executed after the first reboot after the construction, by default the local data store must be named storage1

    You can do the following:

    ln -sf $(readlink -f /vmfs/volumes/storage1) /vmfs/volumes/$(hostname -s)-local-storage

or of any naming convention you want

  • Renaming of Production data warehouses

We would like to rename warehouses of production data while VMS are running on them... We have about 10 must rename to align with LUN ID host and the new strategy of naming...

Someone out there has experience with the renaming of data warehouses while the production machines are running on them?

    If Yes...

What is the impact, if any?

While hoping that we don't have to svmotion machines because it would be a major undertaking.

    Hello.

You can rename in vCenter with no problems at all.  These names are basically just and their change has no impact on your production environment.

    Good luck!

  • How to create several data on local storage scsi stores

    Hi all

If you have a host ESX 3.5 local scsi storage with how you create multiple data warehouses. I would like to create 2 data warehouses. One for my virtual machine and one for my ISO. I tried 2 partitions VMFS3 partitioning at the time of the creation of ESX but when I remove the storage to rename it it only allow me to create 1 data store? Is this possible?

Is there a downside to simply create a folder in 1 ISO called data store and empty my iso files it?

I would also like to point out that I have only 1 raid controller

you will need to manually partition the free space of the Service Console using fdisk.

If its only for a store, I wouldn't bother.

Just create a folder like you said yourself, without inconveniences, except that you have to watch out you don't fill your data with the ISOs and other stuff store.

  • hide local data warehouses in vCenter

I'm trying to understand how hide us local data warehouses appear in Vsphere 5.5 I find it looks like permissions.  How do you go in permissions for all the local data store

    Thank you

    Hello

In order to hide this data store using permissions, you must do the following:

Open-> inventory-> warehouses VSphere-> select the select data-> permissions VMFS store-> click the user or group in the list and set them to 'No access' - are not propagated. We want it to take effect only on this data store.

Let me know how it goes.

  • of MSHS - cannot rename the data files

I have a MSHS (encryoted MSH) - 5 last lines in this script - I have a command shell that renames the data files. for example

    Shell ren f:\data\abc_morning.txt abc_20100912_morning.txt
    Shell ren d:\data\def_afternoon.txt abc_20100912_afternoon.txt
    Shell ren t:\data\abc_evening.txt abc_20100912_evening.txt

These commands work fine in the MSH script, but get the "File not found" error in file MSHS. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

MSHS command also asked how to rename the data files as Shell REN does not work?

    It's really simple:

    MSH scriptname.msh

    That's all.

  • How to see 5 pools do not VM disks on data warehouses?

Hello.  I am new to view.  I just started a new job where they have a 5 view with more than 1,000 Linked Clone VM VDI environment.

There are warehouses of data 3fc which each have about 400 GB of free space by showing in the view tab in vCenter server administrator.  Asked me to create a new pool with 15 virtual machines.  Each VM will require about 35 GB of total disk space (disposable, internal, swap disk and vm).  Therefore, approximately 525 GB of disk space for the virtual machines.

I know that the amount of disk space required for the virtual machines is too big to fit on one of the data stores.  See split sort virtual machines in three warehouses of data?  If so, how composer decides what data stores to put the virtual disks of each virtual computer on?

    Thanks for your help!

It has to work this way, you have selected all three data warehouses when you configure the pool.   If this isn't the case, you will need to go back and change the settings of the pool to include data warehouses before starting commissioning.

  • Rename data warehouses

Hi all.  I have a simple script to rename data warehouses.  An entry is a list of names of data store.  New name is the current data store name prefixed by "DoNotUse.  However, it is very slow.

Any suggestions on speeding to the top?  Thank you very much

    $DSList = get-Content-Path c:\temp\DSlist.txt

    {Foreach ($DS in $DSList)

    $NewDS = ' DoNotUse_$ DS.
    Get-Datastore-name $DS | Store game data-name $NewDS

    $dsList = get-Content-Path c:\temp\DSlist.txt

    $filter = $dsList - join ' |'

    Notice-EEG - ViewType Datastore-property name - filter @{'Name' = $filter} | %{
