I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with Win XP SP3 and I just bought a 3 TB Western Digital Elements external drive. When I plug it into the USB port, it seems that the drivers are about to install as they would with any new material, but I get a BSOD immediately.

And what is 'exactly' the bugcheck BSOD error message?

Windows XP 32-bit only recognizes the MBR disks and MBR disks have a size limit of 2 TB because of the limitations of partition table.  Greater than 2 TB of disk uses a style of partition GUID partition table (GPT) and 32-bit XP Window does not support this style of partition.  You will need get a Western Digital driver to use this drive with Windows XP.

  • External drive USB 500 GB PX1394E burp and more

Since yesterday, my external 500 GB Toshiba USB drive burp more.
The LED becomes red instead of blue when I turn it on. Needless to say that my entire CD collection is on it, so it is quite a mess.

    What are my options now?

I bought the external drive in Germany, a little less than a year ago, model Toshiba PX1394E - 3 50.
Stupidly, I can't find the receipt anymore, so it won't help if I just bring it back to the shop.

Where Toshiba can I apply for?

How can I open the case to see if the drive is broken, or just the USB interface?
The enclosure has two small screws, but by unscrewing seems to have no effect, it seems that they are just to fix a foot plate support.

Help, please! It is a nighmare!

    > How can I open the case to see if the drive is broken, or just the USB interface?
Don t what a controller can be broken. If something is broken, then this might be just the HARD drive.

If the HARD drive burp more then the hardware failure is possible and only a replacement can help you. Stupidly that you can't find the verification of sales because it is necessary to get a replacement under warranty

  • Question: How can I format external drive in exFAT? NOT in NTFS!

OK, so frustrated that I had to go through the hedges to sign up here to ask a question like that. Why can I NOT format exFAT? I have many external HDDs that were formatted in exFAT under WIndows XP Pro but my new system, completely updated Windows 7 Professional, I can't format external drives of exFAT. The option is NOT available. In the Format window, file system, is the only option: NTFS (default), there is no other option. I googled the * on this issue and found no answer. This external hard drive MUST be formatted as a disc exFAT. Period. Someone please help.

I'm surprised the research online increase this... You can do it from the command prompt, but not from this dialog box.  Here's how:

-Open a command prompt by typing cmd in the start/search box, right click on the cmd search result and select "Run as Administrator"
-Type format g: FS:exFAT , then press ENTER to start formatting the G drive as exFAT
To view all other options, type format /? and press ENTER.

  • How to use the external drive recovery with ODD?

    Hello

I need to recover my Toshiba laptop via original Toshiba recovery dvd, but my internal dvd ram does not work, then, how I upgraded my pc to search for external dvd ram when windows starts? I followed the instructions and the C button when starting the computer, but when I press F12 boot any drive, I select my pc starts just windows...

Thanks for your help. J. Hlavsa

    Hello

Your laptop is old laptop model and OS can be installed using recovery media only.
External ODD cannot be recognized as boot device and you won't be able to use it.

See operating manuals and there you will find a list of all compatible ratings, buy one and replace.
Replacement isn't complicated and you can do it alone.

  • How to get an external drive officially used with a Mac to be recognized and usable with a PC running Windows 7

I have an Iomega 500 GB external hard drive that I bought about 2 years ago I used exclusively with an iMac, until this computer crashed irreparably affordable last month.  My new computer is a HP Pavilion PC running Windows 7 and when I connect the drive I see in devices and printers that he acknowledged that an Iomega hard drive is connected to a USB port, but in the computer, it shows internal hard drive of the computer and the DVD player with their respective letter designations.  However, the external hard drive is not displayed.

Fast disk information: I buy the player on the Apple store online in early ' 08, and when I unpacked it initially, I saw no written information not specifying that it was somehow a Mac version of this Iomega drive, there was anything about it either by declaring that use it with a Mac it format to use Mac only.   When I first plugged into the Mac, I was never invited on implementation shape or anything else specific to the Mac, actually, I was never even asked about the pilots.   To plug into it, he behaved as the USB flash drive and external 40 GB drive I have - a small orange icon appears on the desktop, with the name of the drive and the USB symbol.   So for two years, I moved the files between the player and the Mac with no problems, until now, when I try to use the drive with my current PC.

So far it was suggested to me that makes the Mac * fact * format the drive in a way that makes Mac only, and I can't reformat because I have given, I must first of all get moved to the new computer.  Another theory is that since entering at Apple, even though it is an Iomega product, it might have been shipped with a tweak specific to Mac-maybe it was already formatted for Mac use.  A third theory advanced for me, is that it could be that the cable company somehow makes the PC is not quite completely recognize it.

Any info would be greatly apprecitated.   Worse, I can find someone with a Mac and we can move files from the Iomega to the Mac hard drive, then the 40 GB drive which * fact * work with both types of BONE, and that several times until everything is moved safely to the new computer, then can do what I do with the Iomega is usable with the PC.

What I find a bit confusing, it's the 40 GB has never had problems of compatibility with any computer with which I have connected.  In the course of graphic design, I've been in we have Mac and PC in the same building and that player never cared that it was connected to.

There is a format uses Apple (don't remember what it's called...? Trip...? Journal... something like that) that Windows cannot yet see.  So once you have the files and folders saved on something like the DVD, do not format NTFS for Windows can see it.  The good thing is that Apple may also see NTFS, once it is formatted and files/folders copied on it, you will be able to use all the PC under Windows or OS.

  • Window Vista Ultimate 2007 backup files empty on the external drive.

The computer is a desktop HP running Windows Vista Ultimate 2007, 32 Bit OS, RAM 400 GB and Intel Quad CPU 2 .4GHz.

I ran Windows Vista backup for a full backup and a backup of the file.  When I look at the external disk to verify the backup files are empty.  There are two created on the external hard drive, but both files are empty.  The program indicates that the backup routine successfully on the external drive. I have not received any error message.

I use a Toshiba external drive with 500 + GB.  I have a lot of room.  I tried twice.  The first time I reformatted the external drive using Windows and revived the full backup only.  Once again the image file on the external drive shows 0 bytes, 0 files.

I wonder why the backup files are not getting moved on the external drive.

    Hi BEM Consult,.

    1. are you allowing Windows to choose recommended backup or you choose "Let me pick" option on the backup configuration window?

We recommend that you connect the external hard drive on another computer and check if the size of the backup file is in the list.

Check if you have selected all the items in the backup settings to create a backup file. Try to create a new backup file by selecting all items on the Backup Wizard and check the result.

  • Internal and external drives hard. Vista and XP recognizes the limits? The partitions ok?

Hello. I had a few questions. It focuses on internal and external HDD. I have Vista and XP. I read a bit of info I would like to shed some light on.

I watched an external HARD disc. A Western Digital 2 to My Book Studio Edition II external HARD drive, USB 2.0 / FireWire 800 / eSATA. In the end what he says:

    The system configuration required

    • Available USB port, FireWire 800 or 400 port, port eSATA or eSATA adapter card
    • Mac OS X 10.5.2 10.4.10+, +.
    • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Note: the 4 TB version works with Windows® Vista only. Windows 2000/XP do not support hard drives with capacities above 2 TB.

I guess it's true. So: If someone were to buy a 4 TB model: can you even plug the drive in Windows XP and then partition it in two? Or will it give errors or not be recognized?

What about Windows 7? I guess it's more advanced than Vista. Obviously.

I am looking for 3 Tb + internal and external HARD drive. I can not find them. I ' v looked on the websites Seagates and Western Digital, Future Shop and Best Buy, local stores, etc. Maybe I missed them. I think I can start to see well for the holiday season.

    Thank you.

I don't think that there may be a problem with xp sp3. I don't know with vista sp2 and 7 should work for you.

    BIOS update is also important.

  • My 500 g external drive is almost full, how do I continue with a new drive

Hi, I started using lightroom 6 months ago and now my 500 g external drive is almost full.

How can I continue using a new disc? Should I create a catalog by using exactly the same name or drag the catalogue old through without the actual RAW photos?

Maybe 6 months work and 38 000 of Canon 1 d & 5ds raw photos are too much to have 1 catalog?

I work only with 1 catalog, I should create new catalogs more often?

No, I know users who have photos of 250,000 in a catalog and run them properly. Optimize the catalogue allows from time to time.

  • Western digital external USB 2.0 500 GB hard drive not recognized by Windows 7 Explorer. How can I fix it? ___Thank you for your help.

The hard drive worked well until KB2398632 & KB2347290 updates have been downloaded and installed on 16/09/10.  Hard drive works fine on my Vista machine at work.

On my own machine (Windows 7), the drive is seen in my BIOS.  He also appeared in the "features and properties" of the control panel Windows 7 and the 'properties' indicates that the device is functioning properly.  The pilot is also updated.

It does not appear in the Windows 7 Explorer under 'computer '. Only the C: drive is indicated.

My AMD South Bridge set drivers are up to date my USB 3.0 being drivers.

Western Digital 500 GB external hard drive is several years old.

two updates have no effect to detect the hardware. It was an IE and and update printer spooler. Remove it from the Device Manager and plug it into another USB port. "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/
