How to share a second hard drive with the residential group / network?

Initially, I posted this to the security and privacy but we told him it should be under the sons of the network.  Here's hoping someone can help.

I have a desktop computer and a laptop both running W7 Home Professional 64 bit.  On the desktop, I have 2 hard drives - C has programs, D has the data.  On the laptop, I'm just a hard drive.

Each machine can see the other time under residential group and network.  From the Office I can access files that are on the laptop but I can't do the reverse.

The laptop can see the desktop drive D and all folders that I shared, but when I try to dig into a folder I get a message saying I don't have permission to access the folder.  In this case, if I try to access using either homegroup or the network.

On the desktop, when I look at the properties of the D drive it shows as a shared network drive.  Individual records within D show shared with permissions of read/write with anyone and/or homegroup.

What did I do wrong (or failed to do) to allow me to access the files on the disk D of desktop from the laptop?

Hello

Step 1: Try to run the troubleshooter of shared folders and check.

Step 2: Try to give permissions to specific user through which you are trying to access these files or folders.

Step 3: You can also try the advanced sharing and check.

See the article provided in step 1 and the bottom of the article.

  • How to add a second hard drive Ubuntu Server, that runs on vmware workstation 9

    Hello

I am running vmware workstation on windows 9 8, and I installed Ubuntu 12.10 as a virtual machine on my SSD. I installed a second hard drive in the machine and use the "Add a HDD" feature on vmware workstation to add and pre-allocate space. The problem is that the drive does not appear in Ubuntu. I have checked/Media and / dev, I expected to see something like /sda *. It is a procedural step, I missed it, please help!

Do I have to mount the drive in a special way? How can I check if it is properly attached?

    Thank you!

What you said so far, it's like adding a second physical drive to a physical computer and the operating system cannot access until it was partitioned and formatted, and then it can be mounted.  To do the same thing in a VM!

  • Second hard drive on the Dimension E510

  • Tecra M10 - 17U use second HARD drive in the Bay of ODD

    Hello

I try one of this popular box that allows me to put a second hard drive in the Bay optical slot, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter and more properly connect:

    [http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub = 2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with the BIOS Toshiba waiting for a STRANGE device in this Sata port and cams out with a "CD" error, disable the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, BIOS after with what this either in the Bay of the STRANGE, after Windows starts, I have insert the second HARD drive in the Bay of ODD, go to "Windows Device Manager" a 'check for changes on the hardware"and voila, the second HDD works fine , for me, it shows a limitation in the BIOS.

Y at - it assistance, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the latest BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

It seems that Tecra M10 does not support a select bay that would allow you to use a 2nd HDD rather than the ODD.
    As far as I know select bay is compatible with the Tecra M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, S1, S2

    Hello
I would like to know if its possible to add a second hard drive to the X 500-12 q?
I suppose that space is available, but I would like to know whether the connector is here & all
I could just open the case and plug it in.

    Thank you

In the document s user manuals I have not found something on HD upgrade so I m really don't know if this will be possible.
Anyway, as Jeka wrote, remove the HARD drive cover and check if there is place for second HARD drive and also necessary SATA connector.

I have older 300 x and there is room for two drives.

  • HP envy pheonix 800-089 (win8-64bits) how to split second hard drive with multiple users

Hi, first, sorry for my English. I bought a phoenix Hp Envy 800-089 with windows 8 (64-bit). On this computer, I have 2 hard drive from the factory. The first is a (128 GB) ssd with the operating system on it (C and I also have a disk hard 2 TB (E.)) So I want to put photos, music and other media on the second hard drive and I don't know exactly how, currently, I made an icon on the desktop, but I'm not shure if it, s the right way. Another thing, we are 2 user on this computer, and I don't know how do to not allow other users can see my photos or music, because I try, but it has access to all my media, so I don't know if it of possible to split the second hdd for 2 users?

    Thank you

Re-lead a folder to a different location or hard drive is easily accomplished by this change.

You can disable the sharing of files between users on the same computer. Here is a tutorial

    Hello

As far as I know you can build in a second HDD, but it must be defined as the slave HARD drive. If your has been defined as master he can be a problem, because in your case, there are two disks HARD masters.

One of my friends already tried that, and it had success just at the moment where 2nd HARD drive has the same capacity as the first. Two of them were with a capacity of 80 GB.

Configure the other as a slave, and then try again. If you have success, let me know.

  • How to install the second hard drive in the Satellite A200-1 of body weight?

I see my new Satellite A200-1 of body weight has two hard drive bays, the research in the second span, I don't see how a second drive can be mounted as the plug into the Jack seems to be missing.

What parts do I have to mount to place a second drive that they are held in stock by out of the local computer and are quite cheap, can someone advise me on part numbers etc of the bits I need.
    Thank you

    Hello

I know that this empty place for second HARD drive is a bit confusing, but the same situation is with my A200-1CR. The fact is that some A200 models come with 2 hard drives and laptop case design this place must be prepared for this second HDD.

But this does not mean that each A200 can be improved for the second HARD drive.

  • Installed new HARD drive with the new installation of XP, old HDD ShowAs saw as the active partition, how to change this?

I installed a new HARD drive with a new installation of Windows XP Edition family. I want to keep the old HDD and reformat the drive, but I can't because the second HDD is listed as active in the management of the computer. Why? It's not the drive that contains the operating system (Windows XP) that is initialized from.  I put the BIOS such that the new HARD drive is the boot drive. The old HDD has Windows XP on it, but isn't the startup disk. I just don't understand.
If only the new HARD drive is installed, the computer management doesn't show that it or any other of its partitions are the active partition (C drive is listed as the system partition, of course).

How can I get an active partition and no active partition when the new HARD drive is installed on a HARD drive that is not the boot drive, when I have two hard drives installed?

In case it is necessary, the new HARD drive is a SATA and the old HARD drive is IDE with the cavaliers as a slave.

The system partition is the Active partition. The system volume contains the system files needed to start Windows, Windows XP, these system files are:

    NTLDR
    Boot.ini
    NTDETECT.COM
Ntbootdd.sys (present/used only with older SCSI controllers)

Windows files are not necessarily on the system volume, they can reside on another volume, when on a different volume this volume holding Windows files is called the boot volume.

When you install Windows on a computer, playing a mixture of IDE and SATA setup discs tends to favor with IDE drives on SATA drives and tends to use the IDE drive to house the system partition, (even if Windows is installed on a different drive).

Running the command SYSTEM SET at a command prompt may shed some light on the problem...

  • How to add a second hard drive in a T42

I have a T42 with a DVD/CD R / w. My current hard drive is 40 GB and it is running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I would like to install a second hard drive for extra storage. Because the currently installed DVD player uses the UltraBay, I think just remove and install additional hard drive in the UltraBay slot should be possible. Please notify. Thank you in advance.
