How to share an external USB disk on a network?

I added a Western DIgital 2 to USB drive on my Windows Vista computer. I also have a Windows 7 computer, I want to have full access to retrieve and store files. I think I have all sharing and permissions set properly but I still get the error 'permission denied' anything.

Hello

Were there any changes (hardware or software) to the computer before the show?

USB external references aren't desingned to be connected on startup, you must also use the safely remove the procedure and disconnect the USB key before closing.

If you get such a screen "Client Mac Addr... etc" at the start (with usb unplugged), looks like you are using a very old motherboard. If the system starts only with connected usb, then your initial installation of victory is defective or damaged

  • Problem with the MK6021GAS as external USB disk

    Hello

    I have a laptop that has a built-in drive HARD Toshiba MK6021GAS.
I found the disk too slow, so I bought a Hitachi travelstar 7200 RPM to replace. That worked without problem.

But now I want to use the Toshiba HDD USB external drive. But it does not work. On most computers, I get Windows detect the device but then say "an error occurred during the installation of the device" and a few other times, the device is installed as "unknown device".

The thing is the usb box works perfectly well with all the other readers, I tested (consuming more than my Toshiba) and the HARD drive works fine if I put it inside my laptop again. I tried to Master and selection of cable, same error.
I tried several computers (so many configs), several catches USB, tried to add external power source... I still get the same error.

  • question: How can I format external h. disk connected to the computer by USB. Thank you, scrameric

Computer is Windows XP Home Operating System and I would like to format hard drive is connected in a basket through the USB port to the decision-making of the motherboard... The problem is that the computer recognizes that the drive has been connected, but it is not present in the list of workstation. I understand that if it has been correctly formatted it would be accepted, as are the other external storage drives that I use. Thanks for your suggestions.

  • external USB disk as a raw disk

    Hello

I was looking for the solution but could not find.

I have VMware server installed 1.0.6 on Windows XP.

Machine VM I created since the downturn of the performance, I thought using raw disk option (I hope that better read/write performance).

I want to format my external drive (WD My Book), using ext3 or xfs. Next, I would like to add as a 'raw disk' (not VMDK). I don't know why, but when I check the settings & gt; Material & gt; Hard drive there is no option to add PhisicalDrive which is the USB drive. VMware server can see only my hard drive (PhisicalDrive0) on the laptop, but nothing else.  Is this normal? Can I add PhisicalDrive which is the external drive connected to the USB port? If Yes, please indicate how tcan I do.

USB devices can be "directly" connected to the virtual machine. FireWire devices are considered as a pci device and will not be seen by the virtual machine, like an ethernet card or a pcmcia wlan or other device pci card.

Not directly supported in the current version of ESX (i). You can try passthrough. Take a look at the http://vm-help.com for directions. A future version of vSphere will be the real answer.

  • How to rename the external HARD disk in window 8?

I have a Seagate Backup more Portable disk (500 GB) and WD Element (1 to). I use Window 8.

When I Plug one of them, their original name had auto-changed by the computer. For example, auto-changed the name of the element Local disk (H) and Seagate to Local disk (G). I tried to rename the two hard drives, but it does not work. But the two hard drives were working properly (I can open it and uploaded files). I even tried to use disk management to rename the HARD drive, but it will not change in the computer.

Not only that, when my friend she plug Pendrive or plugging me in my usb connection Smartphone . Both got the names of auto-changed also. For example, when I connected my Vivo X 5 in computing, it usually appeared Vivo (I) and the Sd Card (F). Then some time later, it auto-changed on the removable disk (I) drive removable (F). Regarding my from a friend, after she plug his USB drive in my computer, its name from Pendrive changed disk removable (J). When she plug his USB stick into his computer, she could not rename its USB key at all.

Is it because of Bug? or a Virus? What this means, I format my calculater, hard drives, USB stick and Smartphone?

I did done Windows Defender Scan, but it does not detect anything. So, I tried it on my Windows Defender and used Panda Antivirus Scan but detects no virus at all too. What should I do?

    Hello Carina,.

    2. Troubleshooting type, and then click Troubleshooting under settings.

    3. Now, type Hardware Troubleshooter in the option Search .

    4. Click the hardware store to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: I suggest you try to reinstall the USB controllers and if the problem persists try disabling any antivirus installed on your computer, and then reinstall the USB controllers.

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. Method 4: Run Microsoft Safety Scanner

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    Microsoft safety scanner

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • First external USB disk backup from Time Machine and Time Capsule

I have a new USB drive from 4 TB to use for backups Time Machine plugged on my almost full Time Capsule.  The Capsule is connected to my network using Ethernet, so it can be used to back up my MacBook Pro and iMac (via ethernet) (wireless).

I would like to initial backups by directly plugging the USB directly on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.  I currently have the USB plugged into the Capsule of time connected to the ethernet. The initial backup for my iMac took 2 hours to make the 35GBs of 1.6TBs to back up so far.  So potentially 2 + days of initial backup...?

There must be a quicker way.

Box: to recover from my iMac support precedent (after a crash), which stood on a 3 TB USB2 drive plugged to the Capsule, it was estimated to take 36 hours.  I fly over the drive and plugged into the USB port on my iMac and the recovery only took about 8-10 hours, so it does not work for recovery.

I tried to make the backup of the iMac by plugging the USB drive of 4 TB directly on the iMac. I then moved the dUSB Time Capsule drive, but he seemed to start when plugged into the TimeCapsule. If possible, I must have done something wrong in the order.

It is extremely difficult to backup directly to the USB port and then move it to the TC because TM backup differently at local and network drives.

People have figured out ways around it... but you think that it cannot simply... After saving 1.6 TB of data.

Before the USB flash memory stick should be formatted, you may be able to modify the system files and the name of the device.
