How to update Windows after re-installing Vista 32 bit.

I reinstalled Vista Home Premium 32-bit on my Dell E521 and 105 recommended updates to consider.  Should I install all and hope for the best, or is there a better way to ensure that only the most recent updates are included?  Tips appreciated.

Thank you

Terry

You have need of all updates and service packs in the order.  Windows Update allows you to identify the first list and install all of them.  Then run it again before appear no more.  And then install SP1 if it did not appear as an update, then repeat the process.  Then install SP2 and repeat the process.  You will be so up-to-date.  You can't just install new updates - you need in such order as presented by Windows Update.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • On Windows 7 upgrade from vista 64 bit stops after that it says the settings and files of collection

I am tring to install Windows 7 upgrade from vista 64-bit.  I'm to the point where it says collect files and settings, and it stops running, and then in the details it shows 3 files located in the c: users\my name\appdata\local\temp\WER followed by numbers.tmp, then version, appcompat or mdmp. (example: wer5090.tmp.version.txt)  He said that these files are the reason. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

1 disable any security software before attempting to upgrade

    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)

    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.

    4. check your hard disk for errors:

    Click Start

Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD

    Click on "Run as Administrator"

At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r

When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    User account control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Also run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/Upgrade-Advisor.aspx

If the upgrade continues to fail, you might want to consider doing a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

If your license is an OEM one, then you can not upgrade the motherboard or move the license to another computer.

I have a desktop computer with Vista business I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and install Vista on a laptop that has XP Pro but is Vista capable.

    Hello

If you use the Vista licence as part of the upgrade to Windows 7 you cannot use the license of Vista anywhere elsewhere

It is part of the upgrade process

    and also read this on licensing rules;

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, Dell, HP, etc., or you bought an OEM/license disk, they are both classified as an OEM license and are not transferable.

The Windows OEM license is linked to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a retail Windows license, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.

  • Can satellite A350-13D - I install Vista 64-bit?

    Hello
(sorry, I can't speak English very well, sorry if I write to you with its imperfections)

3 days ago, I bought a Toshiba Satellite A350-13D. It has 4 GB of RAM, but Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit is installed. The computer can use only 3 GB.

I can't install Vista Home Premium 64-Bit to use all of the RAM (4 GB)? Where can I download the driver for my computer?

    Thanks for your help :)
    Good day

    Hello!

Of course, you can install Windows Vista 64 bit, why not? What do you think?

On the Toshiba site I can find all the drivers for Vista 64 bit on Satellite A350 so it should all work properly with Vista 64. Check yourself:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

But note there are two different BIOS versions One available for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. After installation of Vista 64-bit, you must refresh the BIOS too.

    Good bye

  • Can I install Vista 64 bit on 32-bit Vista?

I can install Vista 64 bit on a Vista 32-bit mode window mode or should I make an OS install clean / modified?

You must do a clean install, which means that you must start again Vista 64-bit DVD and follow the instructions on the screen.

I think the upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit is not possible.

  • New HARD drive installed Vista 32 bit, but need drivers for Satellite Pro A300-1MC

"Because my recovery disks that I made 3 years ago does not, I just installed Vista 32 bit and then on the Toshiba site, where I have downloaded all the drivers available for my laptop (a Satellite Pro A300-1MC) on a USB key (that I don't have a driver to connect to broadband on my laptop) and when I tried to open on my laptop a message comes up saying" Please insert the last disk of all selfextracting and click OK to continue. "

    So what I do now?
    Thank you

Sounds like you have enabled autoplay
Whenever you insert the memory key USB flash it will try and read the contents of the files on it.
You can disable this by holding SHIFT when you insert the USB key.
This should disable the AutoPlay option.
Then you can go to MY computer in order to access the USB key.

Note: pilots are zipped so you will need to decompress the content first, I installed a 3rd third party tool called WinRAR to unpack the packages unique.

    Hello!

It should be possible to install Vista 64-bit on the laptop but I could be that you will get not all drivers.
For now, doesn t support and 64-bit drivers Toshiba offers but you can search on other sites:

    Here are some examples:

  • Can satellite M300 - I install Vista 64-bit?

    I have a Satellite phone, M300. Memory 4GB Centrino2 P8400 processor.
Can I install Vista 64 bit on my laptop?

    Why not?

Laptop computer s hardware components are strong enough to ensure good performance, even using the Vista operating system.

The M300 Satellite seems to be an Australian series for Toshiba laptop.
On the page of the Australian driver Toshiba, I could find drivers for 64 bit Vista for a Satellite M300
    http://www.ISD.Toshiba.com.au

I think that it shouldn't be a problem to get the Vista 64 bit running on this laptop ;)
