Cannot upgrade Vista Basic to Vista Ultimate
I bought a CD Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade from a local computer store to upgrade my Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Currently, I am not prepared to lose my data by installing a "clean copy", I just want to upgrade. When I run and update, it rejects the upgrade because the installed version is newer than the version I have. Microsoft is no help, they said that you bought...
Microsoft advised me to uninstall SP1, but I can't do that because there is no option in Control Panel to do this.
If I install clean I won't lose nice software from Toshiba. I did a recovery disk, but do not think that I will be able to install this software. If I can download all necessary drivers, but I am interested in utilities/software installed at the factory.

You should try to wake SP1 to the drive ultimate because I think that the problem is due the SP1 is already installed, but not on the final drive.

Hello:
I start the computer, install the disk in the DVD drive, and restart. To the HP splash screen hit key F9 several times, and you should be presented with a boot menu. Select your DVD drive and you'll be off and running.
Sure just that when it asks you where to install windows, select your existing C drive and not delete all partitions. I cannot reformat or anything like that. So, if you do not remove your recovery partition, install W7 x 64 has no effect on it.
What I did all my facilities W7 32 or 64-bit was just install W7 x 64 right above the existing Vista/XP OS and it will create a folder named Windows.old.
Once installation is complete, you can delete the Windows.old folder and retrieve usable disk space. You can also still get all files, music and photos, that you perhaps forgot to back up this Windows.old folder if you need.
