HP compaq 6730 s: SSDS for an 'old' Windows Vista laptop

Hello world

I'm doing a general upgrade to my old computer, which I use to work for the (somewhat cumbersome) analyses of data. I plan to increase my RAM memory of 8 GB (see post here) and now I'm wondering if the upgrade of my internal storage would change something.

Change my HARD for one SSD drive would be possible / advisable? Can what types of SSD I use in this model? Should I update my windows OS too?

I am currently running XP 32 bit (after downgrading from vista) alongside with Ubuntu 64-bit.

I think that Vista and Windows 7 are optimized for SSD (7 specially, as related here) so, probably, that I would need to go to W7 too?

Thanks sp much for your help!

Gonzalo

Vista is not optimized for one SSD in native mode. I recommend at least Windows 7 for one SSD. The current Linux kernels also have support SSD (active TRIM). You can install any 2.5 inches wide and 7 or 9.5 mm thick SATA SSD. My recommendation is a Samsung Evo 840 or 850 model. Avoid the MX100 Crucial he has caused a lot of problems reported here for reasons that have not yet been fully explained.

  • I recently our old Windows Vista out of storage, I'm helping with the implementation?

In fact, I have a series of questions keeping to that, but at the moment my highest priority is to find how to get it all together to the top.

We had it for 9 years, and during that time my mother was barely used and the only time I ever to remember being able to use would be in 2008 and 2012, but in those moments I was pretty young and I caused internet several related problems. After 2012, you don't really mess with it then, but now that I'm starting to regret buying a mac I recently just to set up our vista.

I got everything plugged. There is this blue connector Jack (which I assume is the monitor cord) and I connected on the screen where it belongs. There is another string (which I assume is the power cord) and it is plugged, so far, there are only two outlets in the monitor. The computer itself has a cord of black power, the mouse + keyboard cable and the cable from the monitor. Everything is plugged in and well, but after turning the computer and then proceed to turn on the monitor, I get a message that says 'No detected Signal' with three blocks under it, red, blue and green. Am I missing a cord?

One of the main reasons why I'm doing a switch from my mac to my old windows is due to PaintTool SAI, is available for Vista? And wacom is compatible with vista? It seems to be that some plug-ins to the back of the computer so that it could work. Also, would I be able to upgrade our computer to Windows 7 after setting up?

If it's a desktop pc, & 9 years old, then you must replace the battery in MB, it controls CMOS (plug & play).

Simply turn pc off, remove the battery, wait 10 min.replace with the new. Once the pc boot, enter the BIOS, reset

DateTime, the value for the add-on equipment, set the boot priority, save and exit. Also, read the owner's manual, + all ports

must have an icon engraved, showing what sound for... A year 9 old pc wouldn't be good, or compatible

Win 7 run microsofts Win 7 compatibility...

  • transfer of files, etc. from old pc does not work with window vista laptop

This question is a bit out of my reach. my pc ran 10 windows and crashed after many virus problems. I have a Toshiba laptop like Windows vista and would like to transfer all the nonworking laptop PC. is this possible at all? If Yes please explain in words simple-am not a techie. Thank you.

If its virus issues, & the pc does not start, try to start the pc in safe mode, select normal mode, enter windows

like you administrator. Once, you may / can collect data/folders/files in a single folder, once through, move

    folder on a CD-ROM or a dvd.

Also, on the old desktop win 10, try the removal running microsoft malicuos/malware software, download utility

to a pc running, move it to a cd, download the version win10, only here.

    https://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/security/jj657526

He can show that there & maybe win 10, could still be operatable.

  • Computer freezes constantly after being inactive for some time (windows vista, 32-bit)

After 5-10 minutes of inactivity, the PC crashes, not alt + f4, not ctrl + alt + delete and no more choice, JUST! He can turn off my laptop! I'm going to be psychotic...

The problem occurs in safe mode?

Method 1 : put the computer in safe mode and see if the problem persists:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Method 2: clean boot

If the problem is not repeated in safe mode then it is likely that a startup item or service is causing the problem. Follow the steps on the following link to locate the item or service responsible for the error:

There are many causes of Code 39 errors in Device Manager:

    b. a required binary file is corrupt.

    c. There is a problem with the file I/O process.
