  • Can't get the driver for 32-bit windows 7 HP DeskJet 5440 via windows update.

Original title: driver HP DeskJet 5440 windows 7 32 bit

I was unable to get the driver for 32-bit windows 7 HP DeskJet 5440 via windows update.  I also was unbale to find your compatibility Center.  Is there a link were I can down-load the driver directly from.

    Tony,

    In fact, I assumed that yours was always supported by HP * but I understand now that it's not [so I guess that it is more than 10 years because it is their general support period].  {* Mine is a DJ 2540 and is only a few years so I thought a 5440 DJ must be more recent}

    I see that HP gives you general instructions on installing drivers in http://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-deskjet-5440-printer-series/445466/model/445467/document/c01796879/ I checked Microsoft update catalog service and nothing found for HP Deskjet 5440, that's why you're not having any success with the generic instructions, giving you these instructions seem to presuppose the existence of a Windows driver for this specific model.  {HP must have given up your specific model before that this catalogue has been compiled, because hardware manufacturers are those that connect to their drivers inside}

However, my suggestions may solve your problem or maybe not.  They are simply the steps that seem more likely to be successful.  Personally, I'd a system image before you try each of these suggestions so that you can go back to square one if something goes terribly wrong.

Suggestion 1 - go to the devices & Printers dialog box, click Add a printer, select HP then select HP Deskjet 5400 series [the sequence in the list is awkward, this entry is about 10% of the way to the bottom of the list], click on Next and follow the procedure of menus at its conclusion.  Even if it's completely successful, plan to run my Suggestion 4 below as well in case of future need.

Suggestion 2 - out whatever the driver that shipped with your printer in the first place, try to install in compatibility mode [right click on its executable, click on the tab compatibility , the value of the check box for run this program in compatibility mode for... and select a BONE the printer worked correctly with.]  Then go to the executable, right-click and select run as administrator.  This idea is not frivolous, until he blew something internally, I was using my 1999/2000 HP Deskjet 1220C successfully on Windows 7 x 64 for four years [despite the HP user forums which implies that this was not possible].

Suggestion 3 - go back to the HP site to http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-5440-printer-series/445466/model/445467 but select 10 Windows as your operating system.  In the results, the Diagnostics Utility Tools point contains now a setup generic [hppiw.exe] who described "HP for Windows printer setup wizard was created to help users Windows 10 download and install the software solution most appropriate for their printer and newer HP HP Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.   Simply run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions. " Download & run [run as Admin] of this file.

Suggestion 4 - Connect to an Admin-level account first, then, using IE [there than IE], date back to the Microsoft update service catalog and search for HP Deskjet 5400 series.  It will give a lot of results, then click on the driver name in the left column of title to see details for each potential choice [especially if it is 32 or 64 bit].  The top of the list is [32-bit] Microsoft Update for HP Deskjet 5400 Series driver dated June 21, 2006.  [You might also download & file the second element, the 64-bit version, just in case you change computers in the future]  Add the chosen driver [s] to the "trash" then download - you will be asked to select a file to download first {it is at this stage that the process would be a break without further explanation or any error if you had not been connected to an Admin-level account before launching IE}.  I think that these drivers also work with Windows 10 thus, in the hope that your printer works for the years to come, it would be well worth your copies of maintenance of them filed there ready for your next computer use.

Proposal 5 - go [back] to the forums of user HP Deskjets & find 5440.  See if any of the other suggestions can help you - unless you have already looked through them all the more relevant [I realize that you have been here once already as one of the threads that I just watched was of you].

We know, in advance, which of these suggestions will lead to the best possible solution.  So please come back to this forum to explain what happened when you tried the.  Your experiences will benefit all users of HP Deskjet 5440 who come here looking for advice.

    Good luck

  • You want to know how VMware player has demonstrated in supporting printer HP LJ P1100w USB devices for example.

Original title: VMWARE Player, what went right?

All of a sudden, VMWare Player [Win XP it] recognized and installed my printer HP LJ P1100w.  This, after being informed by them, by phone, that this freebie version does not support any usbs in addition to human and internal interface.  So, I decided to try to install my Deskjet 5400. I got a download HP upgrade package, uninstalled the existing software and Lo! VM has ask me to cut the host device and install it. Test page printed.

What I want to know, since I can't get the response from VMWare, is how is it? There have not been updated for ages.

Anyway, this avoids everything that copy/paste, drag and drop and no quality control before submitting the. PRN to Frogmore Rawprint.

  • Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7

There is a problem with the 64-bit, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 or 8.1 drivers which causes the spooler crash with the following HP Deskjet printers:

    DeskJet 710

    DeskJet 712

    DeskJet 720

    DeskJet 722

    DeskJet 810

    DeskJet 812

    Deskjet 820

    DeskJet 822

    DeskJet 1000

The attachment contains a fix for this problem for Vista and Windows 7.

[The patch does not work for Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 x 64 systems.  There are efforts to this address, if a solution is developed it will be shown here.  [{Edit - I did not progress by getting the patch to run in Windows 8 x 64.}]

First of all make sure that the driver for the installed printer.  If the driver has not been installed go to start devices and printers, add printer, the local printer, choose the appropriate port (for the converters, USB-parallel, the port likely USB001: or maybe USB002 :), then click Windows Update then choose HP for the manufacturer and select the appropriate printer.)

Apply the patch as follows: log in to the computer with an administrator account.  Download the patch by clicking on this link or on the trombone at the end of this post.  Save the hotfix on your computer, then unzip it.  Then, copy the three DLL files in the following directory: %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3

Note that %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the location of the Windows directory. For most systems it will be C:\Windows.  You can click Start, computer, and type %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 in the address bar and it is in the right place.

This can be done from a DOS command prompt if BACK is opened with the "run as Administrator" command or to explore with a copy and paste.  Depending on your UAC settings, you may need to provide confirmation.  Also allow existing files to be replaced if you are prompted.

This patch is not necessary and should not be applied to a 32-bit version of Vista or Windows 7.

Thanks to extraordinary Microsoft engineer Alan Morris forguidelines for patch.

Update - here is that of the more detailed installation instructions:

Download the patch on the DJ_Patch.zip at the bottom of the page and save it on your computer.  Now click on the file and open it, and then extract the fix in a directory that is easy to find. (I use c:\temp. If this directory does not exist you can create it as follows: open the administrative BACK prompts by clicking Start, all programs, accessories, and then right-click on CMD. EXE and select run as administrator. Click in the DOS window, and then type the following command:

    MD c:\temp

    CD \temp

Now extract the patch files in the c:\temp directory (all, extract c:\temp chose as a destination).

[Update - Windows security settings can prevent these files from being used, please open computer, type c:\temp in the address bar and then right click on each of the dll files and select Properties.]  If there is a message indicating the properties file has been downloaded from the internet and can be blocked and then unlock the file before continuing.]

Then, click back to the administrative DOS prompt and type the following: (the green stuff are comments, do not type them...)

*. DLL DIR (just to check that the files are there, it should list hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll and perhaps others).

Net stop spooler (ensures that the files are not in use.)

Copy hpvdb720.dll C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this is for the Deskjet 710/712/720/722)

Copy hpvdb820.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 (this covers the Deskjet 820 and 822)

    Hpwm5db1.dll c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3(this covers the Deskjet 1000 copy)

    NET Start Spooler

    Output

[Edit - note that these DLL files will already be in the directory.  You will get a warning asking if it's OK to replace the files, say "Yes".]

At this point, the patch is installed and ready to print.

Note that here printers do not support USB connections, they have only the parallel ports. [Edit - if your printer has a parallel port to use, it will be probably much less problematic than the use of a converter USB / parallel].   If you use a make you converter USB / parallel it is supported in your operating system.  The following messages are reported by cables USB-parallel that are supposed to work in Windows 7.   A driver is required for the converter USB / parallel besides the driver of the printer.  For converters supported, it is usually provided automatically in Windows 7.  Note: the appropriate to select for USB-parallel converter port is often USB001:.  I've heard of cases where the port was USB002: or LPT3: as well.  If the port you are using is unable (after applying the fix) try to change the port by going to start, devices and printers, right-click on your printer and select printer properties, then click the Ports tab.

Mick4 wrote: the problem is that I only could unzip the 3 dll files but don't know how to replace the bad dll files. Mick 4

If you use Windows 7 do the following: log in as a user with the administrater properties.  [The following assumes that you are using IE as your browser] Click on the here link and select "Save".   Once the download is complete, select "Open folder", then right-click on the DJ_patch.zip file and select extract all.   If extract all is not an option, then click on "Open with" and select Windows Explorer.

Leave the default directory and check the box "Show extracted files when you are finished", excerpt.   Click Start, computer, and type % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3.  Arrange the windows so that you can access the two parts of the window.  Go in the first pane and select the three files dll, hpvdb720.dll, hpvdb820.dll and hpwm5db1.dll.  Now drag and drop them to the % windir%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3 window, select copy and answer to 'replace' in the dialog box.

Note: %windir%\System32 is a system variable that points to the Windows directory.  For most systems it will be C:\Windows, but it can vary depending on the configuration of NDO of hardware configuration of the computer.  If you type %windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe in the address bar in Explorer or in start, search programs and files, it will find the right directory.

    Hi kee,.

Download and use the HP AiO Printer application to set up your printer on your wireless network If you have router:

    http://support.HP.com/RS-en/document/c03561640

Open the app and click Add a new printer, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Note: f you can't find the name of the printer with the "setup" from the list of WiFi from your iPad, reset the printer settings by pressing on and now the buttons cancel and wireless on your printer for 3 seconds, then turn on the printer and make sure the WiFi switch on the printer flashes, otherwise press the WiFi button, and it starts flashing.

Then follow the steps in the article to print and scan, so you can use AirPrint to print from your iPad:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02623193

If you have a router, connect directly to the printer using WiFi Direct, as shown below:

OK, this is not quite a direct link, but try the following: go to catalog Microsoft update site (you will need to use Internet Explorer, not FIrefox or another browser).  In the search box, select Deskjet 845c, and then press ENTER.  There will be a list of four choices, one you need is that which is 11.6 Mb in size (it is the 64-bit version).
