HP ELITEBOOK 8740W compatible RAM

Hello

I have a HP 8740W with 4 GB of RAM and I added 2 GB Kingston PC 10600 S-9-10-F0.
The BIOS detects the total RAM as 6144MB, but the test break-in says failure memory.

It's this particular type of SODIMM incompatible with Elitebook 8740W, or it must be 4 GB already installed?

Is there a list of brands and the RAM compatible?

Thank you.

Hello:

I always get the memory with 8 little black chips on each side of the Board.

http://www.Newegg.com/product/ProductList.aspx?submit=Ene&N=100007609%2050008476%20600000414%20600000406&IsNodeId=1&name=2GB

The memory modules with 4 black chips on each side of the Board do not work for some reason any.

May have to do with density.

A 1, 2 or 4 GB chip should work fine.  This is other than a 4 GB module... memory will not work in DDR mode, but it will take place.

  • HP EliteBook 8740w p/n VB744AV: Base model with only 2 RAM slots does not level up to 8 GB of RAM, 6 GB only?

So I discovered that my laptop is a version of the basic model of the Elitebook 8740w so I'm missing 2 RAM slots. However, I went to upgrade my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB the other day, and after ensuring all the RAM was split and firmly fixed my laptop would only flicker the lights indicating that my ports were dirty, RAM was split in correctly or I ordered the bad RAM sticks (which I didn't, I double checked). So I have of the 4 GB split into the slot of the RAM under the keyboard and replace one of the original 2 GB sticks in the other RAM more accessible location at the bottom of the computer. Laptop started fine. I'll try the RAM slot again later tonight when I get home from work, but if anyone has any experience with this issue, I'd love to hear corrections or explanations on what I can do wrong.

I also want to note that I checked the specifications of the computer and it says that it should support the 8 GB of RAM or more. However I do not know if this is a generalization of the product since it usually comes with 4 vs slots of RAM upgrade only the 2 I have in my laptop.

Quad Core versions have 4 RAM slots and Dual Core 2 slots. Max 32 gig and 16 gig respectively. Try the reslotting and let us know how it goes. 8 concerts must be OK, assuming that compatible. If the problem persists, please provide the manufacturer for both modules reference numbers.

My HP elitebook 8740w mobileworkstation, continues to give me a message unknown device is not a driver & shows the problem with the PnP devices.  Trying to use my laptop to hook a projector, but it will not mirror or even appear on the screen.  Can anyone help?

    Hello:

I doubt that this missing driver is the cause of the video problem you are experiencing.

However, you need the driver for this device.

This package provides HP 3D DriveGuard to the notebook models and operating systems. HP 3D DriveGuard receives notifications of the built-in accelerometer and protects the hard drive (HDD) by automatically "the heads of parking" to reduce the risk of damage if the laptop is accidentally moved or deleted.

As much on the PC do not project onto a screen, the only suggestion I can offer is make sure you have installed the driver of graphics for model graphics card that has your laptop.

There are pilots of 7 cards listed on the support page, so unfortunately, I don't know that you need.

A missing graphic driver is usually the cause of problems like this.

  • EliteBook 8740w thinks that the lid is closed, but it is open?

    Hello

I have an EliteBook 8740w running Windows 7 64 bit and I have a strange problem where the laptop seems to think that the cover is closed when it is open.

If the cover is open, the screen is off the touchpad and keyboard, the two do not work and not the function of the buttons volume or wifi. When the screen is almost completely closed the screen turns back on, the keyboard and the mouse are beginning to work again, but it is not usable, because it is about 5 degrees, far from fully closed.

It seems that it is just reverse how it is supposed to work?

All this happened when I unplugged my power cord. The screen turned white and it has been in place since then. I tried several reboots, nothing seems to recover.

I can run on my external monitor very well, so the laptop seems to be otherwise functional

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Maybe you did not reset properly.

Remove the battery and adapter and all the things connected to the laptop.

Hold the power button down for 1 full minute and only plug the adapter back to (do not insert the battery) and start.

The next time you stop everything, install the battery.

  • EliteBook 8740W after HP, SD card reader driver update appears as XD Picture Card

    Hello

I have an EliteBook 8740W mobile workstation, and it's been great up to a recent software update.

I don't know exactly when it started because I use not the constantly SD card reader but after a recent update HP Support Assistant, the SD card reader has a problem: any type of card, I put in there, he thinks it's a xD Picture Card.

I have several different SD cards and tried all. They work fine on other devices; but when I put in the card on the EliteBook reader, same thing: Xd Picture Card. If I click it to open it Windows says 'Please insert a Picture Card xD'

Device Manager displays the card reader, like the three types of support:

But if I turn off the device of xD-Picture card, it doesn't recognize any card inserted at all.

So, basically, the SD 'detection', if nothing else, is broken, and he thinks that SD cards are cards xD.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the full card reader drivers and it still does the same thing.

    Thank you!

Right click on each of these Ricoh entries in Device Manager and select uninstall.

    When finished

Right click on any device in DM and select 'Search for hardware changes' Windows reinstall the hardware and drivers, see if that helps, if not I think the reader can have due to a malfunction.

Use a bright flashlight and make sure nothing got in the card slot that should not be there.

  • HP 8730w Elitebook SSD and RAM

    Hello

I have a HP Elitebook 8730w and I recently installed Windows 8. I think to upgrade the RAM (from 4 GB to 8 GB) and failed hard drive (SSD). What RAM & SSD are compatible with my system?

    As I saw the RAM support must be • DDR2 PC2 - 6400 CL = 6 • Unbuffered • NON - ECC DDR2-800 1, 8V.

With respect to the SSD, SATA II is supported, but what happens if I install a SATA III SSD? If it will support on my system? Y at - it advice for any brand name that will be more compatible with the problems of free?

    Hello

It is a very good source and they guarantee:

    http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/EliteBook/EliteBook+8730w+mobile+workstation-upgrades.html

SATA III being backward compatible, very sure you SATA III. You have to pay a little more and can only get SATA II speed. You can run a small program called PCwizard to get the correct information on your machine.

    Kind regards.

Your best bet is to buy for providers like OWC and Crucial memory modules that specialize iMac RAM.

  • Where can I find a compatible RAM upgrade for a Satellite 1130-Z25?

My Satellite 1130-Z25 runs very slowly and I'm looking to boost performance. I want to upgrade the RAM - this model will support supposed to be an upgrade to 1024 MB of RAM. Where can I find a compatible product? (the function "show compatibility" does not appear on this site when it is used, and I can't find the relevant info on what I currently have in my laptop outside the standard "256 MB of RAM DDR", displayed under system information.

I recommend to check this site of memory for laptop:

    [Memory for Toshiba Satellite 1130-Z25 | http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=7222&ft=m&st=3]

You will find compatible modules for notebook you.
About the info on the page, you must use the 200 pin PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR SODIMM

I think this should be enough to help find good modules ;)

    Hello:

The max is 8 GB per slot memory.

Your laptop has only two memory slots, the maximum memory is 16 GB.

The 8570w with the quad core processor can take 32 GB of memory because it has 4 memory slots.
