HP Envy K201na: Could install a different BIOS void my warranty?

I wanted to know if change BIOS for other BIOS may invalidate my warranty. The current BIOS is very clear and does not have many options.

Robin_Masih

If this BIOS does not come from HP, most certainly!

According to the page to Support HP for your PC, downloadable current BIOS it is F.42 Rev.a available April 6, 2015.  There is no other versions of BIOS.

Messing with the BIOS is an easy way to turn your PC into an electric 'brick '!

So, before doing any update of the BIOS of other than HP, make sure that the following TWO are met:
(1) you have a way to save on the current BIOS of some media that allows you then to restore it, if necessary
(2) you have a way to boot the PC so that you can restore the BIOS since the recorded media, in which case the BIOS update fails or trashes otherwise your PC

If the BIOS update trashes your PC, don't forget the warnings I mentioned above and restore the old BIOS work.

Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

    Hello

I have improved my M400 for Vista.

I am trying to install all drivers Vista of Tosh. According to the instructions, the first thing to do is to update the bios.

So, I download the bios (v3.60) on the site and run the .exe, but he tells me that I need the common modules.

The only common modules that I can find on the Tosh site are for XP.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you

You will probably need to update the BIOS before installing Vista on the laptop.
Then, you could install Vista again.

  • I can't update/install a file BIOS under Windows 7

I'm trying to update my BIOS on my Windows 7 computer. I went to Dell and the file downloaded installation, but when I try to install it (even with administrative rights), I get a window that says: "the system is different between the current system and the ROM file. I performed a test of compatibility of file and found the BIOS file is supported only by Windows XP Service Pack 2, and my computer can not solve the problem of incompatibility. I made sure the BIOS file I download is actually a version of BIOS newer than what I currently have in my computer (A07 [2009] to A05 [2012]). I even tried turning off my software anti-virus and firewall temporarily, in which case it was somehow corrupt download - things strangest occurred - nothing helped. Any suggestions?

Since there is apparently no way to post one response other than an answer on the site, I must say what I have to say by asking another question. I could not update my BIOS is because I chose the download BIOS for the computer model wrong. - the Dell Vostro 270 over 270 s. As it ends, I installed current BIOS. Sorry for the confusion.

  • FAQ (26): I installed a different version/version of Windows and now SDM will not show me updates.

I installed a different version/version of Windows and now the SDM does not work in "Update" mode

This can occur when some system that HP did not specifically tests with the model is installed and often happens with models and Windows Ultimate edition (or even 64-bit editions on some older models) before Windows 8 Ultimate.

Because SDM detects the new operating system, but it cannot match in the SDM catalog, he (SDM) will disable mode "Update."  However, please note that you can still use SDM mode 'All products' to download your SoftPaqs by doing as follows (the Probook 4730 s is used as an example):

    1. Press the "view all products" in the SDM toolbar
    2. If a dialog box warning that "no operating system have been selected, then skip to step.
    3. Press OK to close the dialog box.
    4. Check the «Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Edition»
    5. Click on the tab "language filter".
    6. 'English - International' is checked.
    7. Press the OK button.
    8. Now, expand the tree on the left side of the SDM application by selecting the following:
    9. HP Probook Notebook PC Series 4700
    10. HP Probook 4730 s Notebook PC
    11. Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition 64
    12. Check the box 'international - English.
    13. Press the button "find available SoftPaqs.
    14. After "things calm down", click on the button "See the last SoftPaqs" at the top right of the application of SDM.

The latest list of the Softpaqs for your model should now be displayed. We recommend that you download all listed SoftPaqs. This whole new way SoftPaqs are released for this model will appear on the top list titled "Available SoftPaqs" display.

To install a SoftPaq after downloading, do the SoftPaq to the ListView "Downloaded SoftPaqs" right click and select "install SoftPaq.

Important note: most SoftPaqs listed using the method above should apply to your model, but a small number of SoftPaqs might not be applicable to your model due to the offers of different material for your model. This means that not all listed SoftPaqs will install on your model and that is normal.

  • HP ENVY 15 t-q100 CTO Notebook: Bios Update to the latest version

I have BIOS version f.22 Rev.A already installed on my laptop. However, I was wondering if I can install the latest version provided by hp which is f. 63 Rev.A on my laptop. The supported version in the drivers and downloads for my product is f.22 but I wanted to know if I can install the new bios on my laptop.

Here is the link for the bios I'm talking about: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_169818_1#tab-history

    Hello @parth017

Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome!

I would like to ask you why you want to update the BIOS?

Personally, I don't recommend do you it unless you're having problems with your existing BIOS and you are sure that the new BIOS will fix it.

General recommendation I provided to users/customers is NOT to upgrade the BIOS/UEFI, unless they live any sort of BIOS/UEFI problem specific. Just for updaing and update just for the use of the latest verson is not the solution. Any type of update (no matter what and that relesed it) can solve 2 problems but can introduce more than 10 questions. In addition, upgrading the BIOS (for any provider) are risky more because the BIOS recovery is not that easy compared to updates of typical software IF something goes wrong.

It goes the same for Windows updates, OS update, drivers, etc - update/update updates IF you have any questions, you know are fixed in the new version or for some serious security problems. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

  • To install a different graphics card on my Satellite A20

    Hello

I want to install a different graphics card on my SA20 - S103.

For the moment, it's the standard Trident card that is currently running.

Is it possible to install a gforce or radeon chip?
If so, what would be the best?

    Hello Stefan,

Unfortunately, I don't think it will be possible to replace the graphics card Trident with another because it is an integrated design that uses shared RAM. Indeed, your graphics card has been designed to adapt to your laptop and would be virtually impossible to find a card that is similarly designed from another manufacturer.

Unlike the desktop or tower where the graphics card is a separate device that can only be unplugged and replaced, the graphics chip of your laptop is usually built into the design in order to save space.

Application may not work correctly. "and then the game does not work. I tried to install this different game on two PC with windows xp. What is the problem.

I found the answer. for anyone having this problem, you create a new folder in programs files called codemasters and create a file in this file, called Operation Flashpoint. you take the third disc and slide its content in the file operation flash point.  then start with the first disk and then install the second. After that, insert the third disc. Unplug your computer and again start the game should work.

  • I could install windows 8 on my computer hp Dv6-6070ee laptop

I could install windows 8 on my computer hp Dv6-6070ee laptop

Windows 8 is compatible for all the things in my computer hp Dv6-6070ee laptop

    Hello

    Thanks for posting again.

I will now give you instructions how you can test whether Windows 8 will work for you.

Before we begin, I want to say again that

    • Material to your computer allows you to install and run Windows 8.
    • However, I could not find drivers for your machine to Windows 8 and your model was not officially tested with Win 8HP.
    • Personally, I do not guarantee 100% compatibility with absolutely everything and everything works perfectly.
    • So it is for you to test it or not.
    • The procedure takes time.

    Before you begin:

    1. You must create a recovery HP (disks or USB) media - this can be used in case you want to recover your computer to factory default - instructions can be found here
    2. Very important - using Windows 7 built-in options and go to control panel-> system and security control, click on save to your computer. It opens his backup center and restoration. You will need a disk (CD/DVD) and do a Windows recovery disk. It can be used in the case where you have to reimage the machine and return to Windows 7. Instructions here.
    3. Yet once in the backup and Restore Center-> create a system image - this will make a copy of all your hard drive right now. This will help you restore in Windows 7 and the State of the machine (if Windows 8 does not work for you). Instructions on this subject can be found here. I recommend that you create this image on an external hard drive.
    4. Back up your most important files by using the Windows backup utilitity - instructions can be found here. Place them on an external hard drive.

Once you are ready with the above steps, and if they have successfully completed, you are fully backed up and you can continue with the experience/test.

Download the Advisor of Windows 8 upgrade from here and run it.

It will scan your computer and if it is compatible and what needs to be changed before you move to Windows 8.

Follow his instructions to fix what may need to be corrected. This could take some time.

At this point, don't buy Windows 8.

Check these instructions from HP on the upgrade to Windows 8 - Note that not all written inside is related to your case, but you can read to get an idea. Read the paths of upgrade of Windows 8 here.

After that depending on your edition of Windows 7 current and according to your preferences, you must do a clean install of Windows 8 or to do an upgrade.

You can download the free 90-day Windows 8 Enterprise Edition on Microsoft TechNet evalutional version - link.

You will need to register using the Microsoft account - it will provide you with a license key and a downloadable ISO image of Windows 8 Enterprise. On your own drive you should burn this ISO (double-click it) to make the installation of Windows 8 disc.

When the installation disc is ready, use to make clean install Windows 8 or update install. Look at all the instuctions I provided. After installation of Windows 8 upgrade, or own, you should try to run Windows Update to ensure that it is up-to-date. If a specific driver is required, you can try to install the Windows 7 version - download it from here. You can restore your personal files from Windows 7 upwards you created earlier.

Experiment. If this works fine, you can later restore to Windows 7 image, then buy a proper version of Windows 8 and perform the upgrade on the spot or other clean install.

If this does not work and you decide to go back to Windows 7, boot from the Windows system recovery disk (created before - look above at step 2) and use the option of image recovery system to reimage the machine and return to the State of Windows 7.

Instructions on this subject can be found here and here

    Good luck and happy testing!

  • dual boot 7 and 8 is already installed on different drives

I can't believe this is unique, but I can't find it anywhere. I got Windows 7 Professional on my C: drive and the computer is dead. I bought a new computer and it came with Windows 8. I have two drives in the system now, with 8 being the one who starts. I want to dual boot option, but each set of instructions I've seen said to implement the dualboot during the installation of OS 2 and they are both already installed. Is there a way to do this? If this isn't the case, I'll have to erase Windows 8, because I have too much to do my Pro 7 OS give it up. I have the disc for 7, if this is important; 8, of course, only came with one. Both are legal and 64-bit. Thank you.

    Hello

It is technically required to install Windows 8 after you have performed the installation of the previous version of Windows (in your case, Windows 7), if you have a dual boot computer.

In addition, a computer is supposed to have a dualboot when 2 operating systems are installed on different drives of the same HARD drive. In your case you use different HDD 2. Therefore, to get the Windows 7 boot option will be impossible.

If you have additional questions on the computer, please ask your question about Windows and we will be happy to help you.
