HP G62-b23SA - hard drive failure imminent - SMART error (301)

My HP G62-b23SA signals an imminent hard drive failure. Drive hard test reports a SMART error (301).  You should back up the system and contact the HP support to inquire if the hard drive needs to be replaced or just needs to be repaired. I have supported from the system, it had to be replaced?

Hello

The Smart 301 error would indicate that your hard drive is defective and must be replaced.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disc replaced.  You can check the status of your warranty here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know - include size (IE 500 Gb) of your current HARD drive.

Kind regards

Considering that you have backups and a failure, I would consider replacing the drive.  Drives 1 TB are relatively expensive and you can be on your way by restoring the backup information.  IMHO, it is not worth taking more chances on the old disk.

  • Envy 14 - hard drive failure imminent

I have an Envy 14-1110NR laptop and receive a message of imminent hard drive failure, whenever I start.  After you run the HP diagnostics, checking the hard drive breaks down so I think I need to replace it.

The hard drive is a Samsung HM640JJ which is obsolete.  Anyone know what I need to do...?

    Thank you very much...

    Hello Stephen,

In this case, may be your best option to create an Image of your existing installation system and store it on a HARD drive external - that can then be loaded on the new drive and your machine will be in the exact same condition as it was when the image was created.

There is a good guide on creating it on the following link - start to the subtopic 'An Option'.

    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/8956-system-image-create-Windows-8-a.html

At the end of the process, be sure to create the 'system repair disc'.

When the drive has been replaced, you can then boot from the repair disk and reload this Image to the new drive - the procedure is detailed in the guide on the following link.

  • Planned hard drive failure - BIOHD-7 error code

I inherited this machine to a family member when they panicked after seeing the error message... Hard drive failure... back up your data and replace your drive.  According to the newspapers, the drive does not have a single "smart test.  I'm not convinced that the player is in danger of failure - especially if it didn't happen in the three months since the first error.  Is it possible to 'clear' this error so he'll leave me to press F2 to start?

If you value your data, then buy a new drive hard $50.

  • hard drive failure - means following error: failure ID 9cw77a-5km5t8-xd002k - 60s 903?

    Hello

    For 6 months, I have HP Pavilion dv6 3180ec, Win7 64 bit running.

Recently the laptop itself restarted several times over the past two days with a hard disk failure message (blue screen); After the reboot, a hard drive diagnostic was requested however never properly started... Run the test from BIOS and I have following error message:

    Hard drive test failed

    Failure ID: 9CW77A-5KM5T8-XD002K - 60S 903

(interesting is that the SMART test successfully)

Someone knows, is the gravity of failure? HARD drive change is necessary? I would avoid the situation to send it to HP customer service to guarantee control and have no laptop for a month, that guys will not suffer the same problem (actually even if I now write the post on this laptop - and without everything again...)

    Hello

If this isn't a SMART error, this will be a failure of the drive Self Test short or long and really would indicate that the drive needs to be replaced.  There is no need to have to send the laptop, as if you contact HP to get a new HARD drive to be shipped to you under warranty, the player will be sent to you - you normally pay a guarantee that it will be refunded when you return the defective HARD drive.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

The procedure to replace the HARD drive appears from Page 55 of your & Maintenance Guide.

  • Hard drive failure; Recovery Console error

Yesterday my computer was at the peak of its performance. Shut it down normally, defragged every day and no blue screen in 5 years. Then BAM! It says "the following file is missing or corrupt: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Config\system" before even starting up screen lights up. So I searched the Internet for answers on my laptop and found the recovery via the installation CD Console. I will, and I do a CHKDSK/p. He said unrecoverable damage or permanent, which is confusing because it is 6 months old (replaced HD because the former was too small). So I try to use the CD command that was given by most of the sites, then I get an error message saying "the path or file specified is not valid" for anything I type in. Can someone help me please, it's too sudden and weird.

Your hard drive is dead. If you want to get data off of it, the only thing to do is now to send it to a professional data recovery company. I use a Drive Savers for my clients. It is quite expensive, running anywhere from $500 to $ 3,500 with an average of $2,700. Some insurance companies cover data recovery so check with yours. I have an app Compaq Persario CQ50 - 109CA, running on Windows Vista, which is indicating "Hard drive failure" imminent

    I backed everything up.

I restarted the computer and started running the Hard Drive Self Test in the BIOS.  The quick test passed but 4 minutes in the next test, the computer will stop.  This has happened 4 times now.

I can restart normally, and the computer seems to work very well.

This means that the hard drive requires replacement indeed?

The sectors more means worse condition. My classmate has 134 of them and can not start at all. Buy a new hard drive.

Reallocated sectors count means that these areas cannot be used and the data is transferred to another area of the hard drive. This means a physical damage on the hard disk trays. The hard drive may be working again, but may also fail at any time completely...

  • 1720 smart hard drive detects imminent failure. do backup - how can I move my files when I get a new hard drive?

Hi, I have "1720 smart hard drive detects imminent failure" made a backup, Gather I have to get another drive. How can I transfer my windows vista / files to new drive? Help, please.

    Hello

There are different ways to do

and these methods depend on your hard drive work

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning to move your operating system software from the old to the new drive hard If your old hard drive still works

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought:

    1. If vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new drive hard If the old drive still works

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Satellite Pro P200 - Smart error "imminent hard drive failure".

Hello! I wonder if someone can help me.

Start the computer, the other day the S.M.A.R.T diagnostic program came suddenly on saying a "hard drive failure may be imminent," when I open the Intel Matrix Storage console, it says that the hard drive in port 0 has had a S.M.A.R.T event recorded against him but that of port. 2 is 'normal '.

Port 0 is the volume of the operating system on it and if so what would be the best way to back up the disk and what someone knows how to change the hard drive and how much approximately would this cost?

    Thanks for any help inadvance.
    Paul.

    Hello!

In my opinion, you should back up all the data as quickly as possible. In the worst case you could HARD drive might completely die and then you are not able to save the data on it.

After that you should swap the HARD drive. It s depending on the model of HARD drive you buy how much it will cost but drives hard are not so dear to our days. I think that it will be possible to get one for 50 Euros.

I have the black screen at startup saying hard disk failure is imminent. Controls of the f2 said

    Drive hard SMART test failed

    ID GLQ3J0-65V838-MFPX0J-60C403 failure

    Product ID B1P45EA #AEU

What it means? I also get messages on Windows 7 hard disk failure is imminent. What is in fact a hard drive failure?

The problems started after system restore to a point previous (5 days ago) after downloading some updates of the site Web HP that have been identified as relevant, but caused freezes, which is why the restoration to the previous point. Still trying to get an idea of the problem areas. Most things work very well, but Windows Media Player does not properly is the most obvious fault so far. More I bought a new external hard drive to perform the emergency backup, but it is not recognized when I plug. It is however grateful already used very happy memory sticks.

I'm likely to have a real failure, or is a false reading because things did not settle down properly after the system restore?

I am not technically very advanced - perhaps at the limit of my understanding so simple popular suggestions/instructions.

Thanks for all those who have followed this demand. Problem solved - I took it to a local repair shop in the end. While I could probably physically replace the drive myself quite easily, I wanted the confidence of an expert to provide the correct replacement and manages the much larger task to transfer everything at the latest so that I can resume normal with all that where it should be.

  • Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

    HP TouchSmart 610-1020 has

    i5 6 GB RAM 64 bit

    Windows 7 Home Edition Premium--> Windows 8

Hi there, since a terrible week for me I started to receive the error message:

Hard drive failure is imminent and must be replaced

only when am re - / from my PC.

I made a backup already a few days ago (space available was already 85% - did not much), run all those disk cleanup, defragmentation, analyze and verify programs and there was nothing wrong. I ran all possible controls and it had nothing recorded. I've updated / installed Windows 8 which works perfectly without any problems, no computer crash or that it is, but only sometimes receive a message saying that I need to run/shedule a back, etc.

As I already mentioned, there was no disk error, no other problems known but still get the message "hard drive failure is imminent and should be replaced" and crazy!

    My questions are:

    (1) what on Earth is happening, there is always a problem with touch smart PC; should he stay away all in a desktop PC and just buy older versions - separate screen and tour, etc.?

    (2) I have no problem and continue to use my PC but wonder what will happen; It will be down, it's just a false error message, what should I do?

    (3) if I have to take it to a service, what should I take care of?

Thank you for taking your time and wil appreciate for your posts about.

    Hello

What has happened is that the CHIP system reports told you that your hard drive will fail little time. It is good that you have saved.  The fault lies not in all of your PC, but in a single component, namely the hard disk. You own your PC like one year standard warranty is longer.

You need to buy a hard drive with the following specifications. It of time to find your recovery disc as you need to recover your PC in its delivered State and then apply the upgrade 8 to win again. You can install it yourself or have done by a qualified PC store or from an HP Service Technician. The HP service center is the most expensive option.

You can avoid having to use the recovery disk and upgrade by a clone of your hard drive on a 1.5 TB external drive. You will be able to migrate the clone on the new diskette with a product commercially available as Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12.

  • Hard drive failure is imminent!

so I had a play and when I started the game, I was told that my computer will restart, then it started me off in the bios with the message "hard drive failure is imminent. IM wondering if I get another HARD drive I will need to get another copy of windows 10 buy or is there a way I can keep the windows 10 during a maneuver on my HARD drive?

You can simply install the new disk, then start on a key USB W10 and install the operating system without a key, then when you get on the desktop, it should activate.

Or clone the old disk to a usning new Macrium reflect free, then install the new disk, but if the reader fails it cannot establish so well.

You can make the USB stick using this tool from Microsoft, you will need a 8 GB or more great drive flash usb, or you can make an ISO file and then burn it to DVD.

  • HP Pavilion Slimline S5: Internal HARD drive failure, PC does not start

Drive HARD internal of my HP Pavilion Slimline S5 failed and died recently (bought in 2011). My HP warranty is long gone.

The splash screen has shown this message:

1720-SMART hard detects an imminent failure

Due to lack of player: SATA0

    Failed attributes: # 05

I have several questions about this:

    1. Is it only caused by HARD drive failure? I want to replace it myself, but I don't really know if there are other parts to replace. Or it will be better to bring it to the computer shop to do carefully check?
    2. I can replace it with Seagate Barracuda 3.5 "(7200 RPM, 1 TB, SATA 3 or 6)? I think that the current HARD drive is Hitachi.
    3. I still need to transfer Windows OEM once the HARD drive is replaced?

    Thanks in advance.

According to the packing of the Seagate, it might come with the software.  But if it is OEM drive then found the software by clicking HERE.  In general, I use a USB adapter for hard drive to clone if the PC will not support an additional drive.  Given that a number of incomplete model for the PC, it is difficult to find accurate info, but the Pavilion Slimline S5 I checked all have a motherboard with additional SATA ports.  Just have a spare SATA cable and power on the power port and try the cloning software.  Make sure that the drive is not touch a conductive element.  Usually, I place the additional reader on a cardboard box.

Install the new drive as a replacement for the existing drive and connect everything as it is now.  Then connect the old drive in the manner discussed.  Boot from the CD created with cloning tools.  If the old drive is cloned stll, then when the software is finished, remove the old drive connections to see if the drive can start the computer.  If this is not successful, try to run the recovery screen (F11) BIOS boot manager.  If that does not work, use the Recovery DVD set brand when the computer was new.  If you did this, or lost them, then see THATto order a series.
