  There are TONS of OCR options out there. Even if your printer is not necessarily delivered with a release of box OCR solution you can always us third-party software to do what you are looking for. Here is a link for the top 5 free OCR software tools. The article is a bit dated you can search in your favorite search engine to find the solution that best fits your needs. I went to the Microsoft Office Document Imaging or OCR via google Docs, as I have already included it with office and use google Docs quite heavily.   Hello to all community workers

  I have a new HP Deskjet 2050. This is printer * beep * scan * beep * Copier. I would like to create soft copy of some books of text using the OCR software. OCR is optical character recognition software, which can convert the text from the image in real characters and export them to applications like MS Word. I used this a few years ago. Normally, it comes with the Scanner CD. But I could not find this software with the CD provided with this printer/scanner for me.

  Can someone help me find this software compatible with my HP Deskjet 2050 printer/scanner.

  In the Applications folder, find the Hewlett-Packard folder and launch the HP scanning software.

  Full features software is not available for the printer to Yosemite, which means capacity analysis technologies are available to Capture picture, Preview, etc., and OCR ois not included in the supplied software.

  For the OCR capabilities, you will need a 3rd party software, there are several professional provucts such as OmnIPage or Read IRIS... There are basic and more afforable such as VueScan solutions that provide OCR capabilities.

  Also a google search can provide you with even more options for such.

  Can I use paperport ocr software instead of the IRIS?

  I assume you mean PaperPort 14 or 14 Pro of PaperPort.  I looked on the PaperPort product support website and I quote their website:

  "Works with any scanner.

  Make your all-in-one printer, mobile scanner, or desktop scanner faster and easier to use with PaperPort 14. »

  I have also read through their forums and found users with Officejet Pro 8600 (s) who have been using the software successfully.  I have not personally had experience with this software, but that's what I found the search in the website of the company Nuance.  For more information on the source of the information contained in this post, you can click here.  I hope this helps.

  Here is a suggestion of a person on the forums of HP:

  1. click on start, type: services.msc

  Press enter on your keyboard.

  2. make sure that Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) is running.

  3. If this is not the case, try to start the service, it showed to me and error 1068.

  4. WIA is dependent on other services, then you must make sure that these two are running

  (a) remote Procedure Call and

  (b) protection of the shell material

  5. then try to run WIA services

  See if it works then
