  Hello and thanks for posting back.  In this case, what I would suggest is to do a system restore to where he worked.  If that doesn't fix it phone support for your laptop repair options.

• Pavilion 15 laptop: Start button / stop does not turn off

  After the upgrade to windows 10, "sleep" mode did not work, however a windows update corrects this problem. The only problem I have seen today is that when I stopped my laptop the power button stays on your battery and I have to manually turn off (by pressing for 5 seconds).  What I do is turn on the computer again and stop it again, and then it turns off completely. I m afraid that force close down may harm the computer.  As info... I bought my laptop this year, came with windows 8.1.  Any help? Thanks in advance.

  1. Download version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.
     • Navigate to HP Software and Driver Downloads site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the last pilot approved for your model.  Filtrer filter by version, select Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the menu drop-down.  Find the download in the category 'Driver-Chipset'  If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is listed, download.  [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66001-66500/sp66228.exe) works for most models.]
     • If a pilot of MEI with a version from 9 or 10 number is NOT listed, download the driver appropriate directly from Intel (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=intel+management+engine).  [9.5.24.1790 version 1.5 M (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23091/Intel-ME-9-Management-Engine-Driver-for-Intel-NUC) works for most models.]
  2. Download the Package of troubleshooting Windows 10 "show or hide updates" (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).
  3. Change the Windows Update Services automatic (delayed start) parameter to the manual.
     • In Control Panel, select administrative tools, and open Services.
     • Go to Windows Update and double-click it to view its properties.
     • Click on stop to stop the service to run.
     • Change the Startup Type to manual, and then click OK.
  4. Install version 9 or 10 of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.  If you receive a warning dialog box about the replacement of a newer version of the software, accept it.
     • NOTE: You have NO need to uninstall version 11 before installing version 9 or 10.  The presence of a version of the driver is required to 'upgrade' (or demote in this case).
  5. Run the Windows 10 Troubleshooting Package 'Show or hide updates' and hide the updates of the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) driver.  (This will block your system automatically reinstall or display of updates for version 11 of the pilot).
  6. Change back the setting of Windows Update Services to manual automatic (delayed start).
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Rejoice!  You can finally sleep and stop again.

  I try to create a guest RH EL Linux 4.6_64bit on a HP DL585G1 ESX3i server build 123629.

  After the start of the guest, I get only the Message: "your CPU does not support long Mode. Use a 32-bit Distribution"

  You may need to test if:

  (a) you run a review of 'good' (in terms of supported 64-bit comments) CPU (for example, several AMD chips have been officially ranked 'not kosher' VMware because of the inadequate support of segmentation) - see http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=1901 for more details.

  (b) AMD - V / Pacifica (VT if it is an Intel CPU) is not disabled in the BIOS of the computer.

  I have Vista Home Premium (very probably OEM as it came with the PC) on a PC and I bought the upgrade license to Windows 8 Pro.
  I understand that it is in terms of the license transition, but here is my problem:
  The CPU does not support NX (and for sure there is no setting in the BIOS for this).
  So I can't move to 8.
  To replace the CPU, I need to replace the motherboard.
  If I replace the motherboard my understanding is I'm losing the license because it OEM.
  So, in reality, I can't switch to Win 8.
  The license, I bought said that I can pass any system running XP, Vista, Win 7 to 8 Win.
  It does not distinguish between older versions of Windows OEM and retail versions.
  For me, it's a huge conflict.
  So the question is:
  Can I change the CPU + motherboard to earn 8? or not?

  It has been some time but I finally had the time to do the upgrade (hardware + software).
  For history and for others who could come on this post with a similar question and be discouraged by responses like this:
  I contacted the technical support of MS and they confirmed that I had a Windows 8 Pro upgrade license and after upgrading my license would Win 8 Pro full-detail (what you want to call it). Essentially, after upgrade, I can reinstall any other motherboard. Of course you can only use a license on a machine at one time.
  (Of course your upgrade license type may be different to mine, so you should check they type of license)
  In any case, what is more interesting, it of that I got the confirmation that I can do a clean install and activate my upgrade license. Not only that, but they recommended the installation of Vista should not be present when installing on 8 to win. I was very skeptical and I asked for an account of the cat to be on the right side. They assured me that the support had made several times and is not a problem.
  And so, I do a clean install on the new motherboard (and a new player) and activated windows 8 with no problems at all.
  It seems very stupid that you can change the motherboard after the upgrade, but could not make the move and the Windows update at the same time. Fortunately, it is not the case.
  To me, it seems that the MS are aware that in you to go from XP (soon), they should also use the materials for the upgrade.
