  • HP Pavilion 500-164, upgrade the video card.

I replaced the power supply in this area for a graphics card into the PCIE slot. I put a Nvidia 9600 GT in the box, not changed no settings, tried to start, and I get no bios and 6 beeps. Any advice?

Based on specifications, your desktop HP Pavilion 500-164 has been bundled with Windows 8 installed and has a feature called 'Secure Boot'. You must DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ACTIVATE the standby mode 'legacy' in the BIOS before the computer will start with the nVidia 9600 GT installed.

Please, remove the video card, make changes to the BIOS and turn off the computer. Then, reinstall the video card and turn on the computer. Your problem should be solved.

    You computer has the following connections;

I suggest to use a HDMI-DVI cable and a mini plug cable stereo 1/8 "to connect your computer to HDTV. Alternatively, you can use a VGA cable, but theoretically, the image will be of inferior quality.

What is the problem and what I take in repairs?

    Hello

Use a can of compressed air to clean any dust from the fans in the PC.  With the side panel, power on the PC and still observe the rotation speed of the fan.  What do you see? slow, medium, or high speed?

Open the windows to RUN and enter: MSINFO32

What level of your PC BIOS runs?

Install the latest diagnostics for your PC. Start your PC and press ESC then F2 to run a diagnostic.  Run a complete set.

You do not have an additional drive or in addition to disks 1-4, there is one labeled accordingly.

  • Remove the hard drive and optical drive on HP pavilion 500-164

    Hello

I was eager to build a new computer and was hoping to use the hard drive and the optical drive from the Hp Pavilion 500-164 to reduce their costs. I'm confused as to how to remove the optical drive, because I removed the two screws on the left and don't know how to get to the other side as it wouldn't come out. When you remove the hard drive, the SATA cable wouldn't come off, so I stopped here and would like some advice on how to remove the hard drive from its Bay.

    Thank you

  • the desktop pc Pavilion 500-164 to date of Windows 8 for windows 8.1

My dealer told me that the 500-164 Pavilion had windows 8.1.  This isn't.  Even if the Assistant on HP site says that it has not been tested, has anyone successfully done?

    Hello:

I do not have your PC but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.

HP provides W8.1 drivers for this model on its support page.

Before moving to W8.1, I'll make sure to create the W8 recovery media so that if for some reason, something doesn't work well in W8.1, you can restore the operating system and software from the PC to its status of "out of the box.

And you should do anyway even if you do not upgrade to W8.

Check out this guide to make your W8 recovery media set.

  • Pavilion 500-164: motherboard replacement raises Questions

Thanks, Malygris1, for your very comprehensive answer.  Unfortunately, I'm looking forward and installed the new Board of Directors.  For those faced with replacing a motherboard HP, I will elaborate on my trip.  The most important step was in buying for the motherboard.  I have no HP, but from a dealer on Ebay.  I DID, however, carefully note the model of the motherboard AND the designated HP part number of alternatives on a small paper on the motherboard label.  The same motherboard model is used in several models of HP Office; but, if the number of HP spare parts is matched, the info on the model should be on the motherboard.

My original problems were solved with the installation of the new Council.  After a router struck by lightning, the ethernet port had stopped working, and when told to stop, or in standby mode, the machine would invariably restart.  The new motherboard solved both problems, which seem to be related to the power surge.

I installed the new Board of Directors of the Windows 10 updated 500-164 and held my breath I have it powered for the first time.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that everything looked the same as when I left it.  Recognized support assistant the new Board of Directors as part of a desktop computer 500-164.  I have not tried; but I hope that the recovery media will work, if necessary.  Malygris1, do you think that if Support Assistant recognizes the info on the model, the recovery disks will work?  I'm curious to know how it works, but, if not, no big deal, as I now have a new image Acronis 10 Windows installation, which works perfectly on the 500-164 Pavilion (without "Pitfalls", as some have reported with audio, etc. of the wireless card.).

My second concern was whether or not Windows is always activated with the installation of the new Council.  He said that he "Windows is not activated.  ... Rats and other profanity.  I know it can take time to be put in correspondence with the info from Microsoft, so I updated the bios and checked the rest of the ports for the features of the machine.  I returned in configuration/system Panel and he told me that the activation information were "unavailable" - different from the message 'not active' sooner.  I've been waiting on this screen for a few minutes and the message changed to "Windows is activated"!  I was ready to make Microsoft telephone activation and I had run a keyfinder to get the original MS product key for Windows 8 from the hard drive, but I didn't have to use both methods.

So, in summary, if you want a card mother 'replacement', shop for the exact number of spare parts HP; not only the MFG part number.  It will save you a lot of grief.  Obviously, if you want to 'upgrade' from your motherboard, all bets are off, because it's a totally different scenario with different issues to deal with.  My project was a complete success at a cost of $103 for the new motherboard and several hours of my time.

  • HP Pavilion 500-314: big problems by adding an external video card

    You are looking for assistance.

I recently bought a HP Pavilion 500-314.  Specifications are the following:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c04293928

The unit includes the integrated graphics card Radeon R7 and comes with a 300w power supply

I bought this unit in large part because it states explicitly that "supports PCI Express x 16 graphics cards".  I run a quad-monitor configuration for my work and traditionally did it this using a card ATI over-pants 2450.

I tried now three different external graphics cards and can get any of them to work:

First attempt was with a VisionTec Radeon HD 5570 (point #900345).  This card supports quad-monitor configuration and requires a minimum power of 250w.  When I installed the card, the HP Pavilion beeps several times a series of 4 or 5 (can't remember which) emits a beep, but refused to send an image to a video output (either on board or the new card).

Next attempt was with an EVGA GeForce GT 610.  It's a Setup dual monitor and requires a minimum 300w power supply.  Got the same exact response as with the VisionTec (i.e. the series of beeps... computer would not start all monitors).

So both of these cards (new), I basically gave up immediately that I couldn't in the BIOS (b/c wouldn't monitors) to see what was going on.  My understanding is that the series of 4-5 beeps usually means that there is a problem of graphics card, or the card that was added doesn't have enough power.  It's frustrating, because the HP Pavilion 500-314 a supposedly a 300w power supply, which is at least equal to the minimum required for each of these cards.

At this point, I took out the ATI over-pants 2450 my old machine and tried.  This card at least has not caused the series of 4-5 beeps.  Windows has started.  However, once I log in, Windows tries to install the new (card over-pants) repeatedly, only then, the screen flashes and blinks and flashes.  Then I went into the BIOS.  The BIOS indicates that the system recognizes the card, and that the integrated video has been disabled.  However, there is always a signal coming out of the onboard video output (DVI), so it is not in fact actually disabled.  My feeling is that Windows is trying to control two separate video cards (edge + external), which is what causes the problems.  I can turn off the graphics card over-pants w/under Windows (in Safe Mode) and let the card installed, and things work fine.  However, as soon as I try and activate the card, I get endless cycle flashing monitors.

I spent a few long sessions with HP technical support and they were useless.  They claim that this is not a problem of HP as the embedded video works fine.  I find this extremely frustrating response.  I think it is a matter of HP, because BIOS doesn't seem to be properly disable the onboard video.  Not to mention that the PC can't seem to properly interface with Windows compatible 8 PCI-E cards that claim explicitly require less energy than this unit has.

I'm usually pretty computer savvy, but have reached my wits end on this one.  I'd appreciate any help anyone could provide.  I tried all kinds of combinations of variables (i.e. enabling integrated video, setting external card at the elementary level, etc.) through the BIOS, but also combinations of w/under Windows, disable integrated video, but nothing is working.

    900345 VisionTek Radeon HD 5570 1 GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 16

    Big_Dave,

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

The first time that I spoke with HP support, they had me disable secure boot.  Unfortunately my problems (i.e. the cards would not install correctly).  However, after reading the link you provided that I was inspired to try things one last time with a new beginning.  I uninstalled all drivers, removed all cards, re-engaged start-up secured, restarted, close, disabled secure boot, reinstalled the cards and rebooted.  And, this time, the system accepts the card GeForce GT 610.

Difficult for me to express how grateful I am to you.  I spent two weeks and countless hours trying to get this corrected.  Just I found these forums earlier wish.

  • Desktop HP Pavilion 500-164 wifi keeps declining.

Hello. I just bought this computer two days ago and since last night I seem to have a problem with my wifi. I opened the store and reset my router at least 5 times and my wifi always keeps dropping. I checked for new drivers and checled for the updates on Windows and I updated and restarted my computer several times. All other computers works for me, except that it is wifi keeps dropping. I have no idea why, and I can load barely a minute long video of YouTube in 480 p. Any suggestions? It worked PERFECTLY the first day and a half. Maybe I should get out swap for another at best buy?

Hey! In fact, I swapped out for the same computer... And it works! Perfectly. ::) Must have been a bad batch, but I appreciate your comments. : )

  • HP Pavilion 500-164: the upgrade of the graphics card and power supply on a HP Pavilion 500-164

I'll be upgrading my HP pavilions integrated HD graphics 8570 D a STRIX ASUS GeForce GTX overclocked 2 GB DDR5 128 - bit DisplayPort HDMI 1 750TI. 4 a/DVI-I graphics card. With that I also improve my diet to a Thermaltake TR2 500W 240 pins power power TR-500. I was wondering if it of ok to do on the computer and will not damage it. It is extra steps when I install these. Initially, I got the PC with windows 8 but have upgraded to windows 10.

    Hello

If the ASUS 750 TI requires a 6-pin auxiliary power connector and your computer is running a version of HP 8 BIOS then you should be OK.  Open your PC and measure to make sure that graphics card fits.  In addition, open the command RUN and enter: MSINFO32

Your computer is running a version of HP 8 BIOS?  If so, and if it is possible to install the graphics card then go ahead. Find out what the return policy is before you buy.

Thanks for posting on the forum.

  • HP Pavilion 500-326na: Fix fan GPU Desktop?

After doing some research and trying to find what was wrong with my desktop computer and why he was doing this noise, I used AMD Catayst Control Center and a program called SpeedFan and when I lowered the speed of the GPU fan is quiet and stopped making noise. so now I know it's the fan of advice on what do I do?

My PC makes noise video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7_iULq8LgE

The good news is that you can replace the fan. Look at this picture.  You don't have to remove the radiator.  The part number is displayed on the fan housing.  Browse the different examples, some show only the fan, which is a fan of type 4 son PMD. Do your research (because your to the United Kingdom?) and I can't assess the availability of replacement.   The RPM is a key factor. Too slow will trigger a full stop.

Make sure you understand the position and rotation of the fan blades.  You do not want to install a new fan "toggled".

  • Office Pavilion 500-164: usable RAM less installed

    Hello

Are you running VM? If so, then change the values of your allowance.

The operating system may be corrupted which would make the MSCONFIG setting ineffective.   It's a matter of low probability. Although there are values of registry in this case that could be changed, I'll inform normally not posters on how to edit the registry.  Open (admin) command prompt it and enter the following: SFC/scannow

Restart the PC after the SFC scan process is completed. If the process of SFC scan found errors that it could not correct then reload the operating system using external HP recovery disks.  Don't forget to backup your data.

Restart your PC and check again the MSCONFIG setting and make sure it is not checked. Repeat the test.

Try this memory bootable Diagnostics CD. Download memtest86 iso file and burn the disk using Imgburn.

    Memtest86 4.20 more Installer USB.

It is possible that the new memory is not compatible with your existing memory, even if it seems to be recognized. This happens often.

That these suggestions in this order:

Remove the new DIMMs. Start the PC and check the area of material. You should see a small amount in the reserve.  How do you see now in the area of material?

Clear theCMOSand repeat the test. If no joy, then try the following suggestion.

Remove old DIMMs and place the new DIMMS in the blue slots.  Clear the CMOS. Repeat the test. You see 16 GB with only a small amount of material area reserve? If no joy, then the DIMM modules are not compatible with your PC.  If OK, now install the original DIMMs in the black sites. Repeat the test.  If no joy, then clear the CMOS and repeat the test.

If you have reached this point, then I suggest that you return the DIMMs.  See the information below.

Your first consideration should be Support HP or HP sales during the consideration of upgrades or replacement of memory. If you want to consider other manufacturers of the best way to avoid memory problems is to contact one of the leading manufacturers of memory. I would recommend that you try the tools of these manufacturers: Corsair, Kingston andCrucial. Once you have determined the DIMMs that you need, then contact commercial or technical support to check that you have selected the correct DIMMS. If you buy directly from manufacturers, then they will stand behind their products.
