I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my DV7-3080ed, which is the maximum that can be installed? There are currently 4 GB (2x2gb).

Guaranteed compatible using modules in a major memory manufacturer upgrade is the way to go if you want no surprises when you plug new modules. Do not add the new memory module that is already there. Remove the original memory unless you can locate a module that is identical in every respect to be placed in the empty soDIMM slot. You don't have to try to match the specifications of the module of the computer laptop memory published unless you like surprises.

First of all, I want to upgrade my memory from HP laptop Pavilion dv7-6c23cl (currently with 6 GB memory) he came). She has Windows Pro 8.1 installed.

Some users, retailers of memory, including some experts not HP, say:

    1. Maximum supported memory for HP Pavilion dv7-6c23cl Notebook is 16 GB... is it really 8 GB or 16 GB?
    2. Do not install memory in pairs, manufacturer/size... is that correct?
    3. If the 8 GB or 16 GB max taken in charge, is there any other requirements?

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&product=5218586&

Memory upgrade information and configuration options are in Chapter 1, page 5.

Since your model has a processor AMD, the maximum memory that can be installed is 2 x 4 GB = 8 GB total.

Only models with Intel processors can have 16 GB of installed memory.

  • DV7-6163US: Memory Maximum RAM Support for DV7

I have the Pavilion DV7-6163US with Intel i7-2630QM processor 2.0 GHz. It has 10 64-BIT OS Windows with factory installed 6 GB of RAM. I wanted to update my RAM and therefore verified the CRUCIAL Scanner and it says its 2 GB on a SLOT and 4 GB on another location. It is said further maximum memory: 8192MB.

I checked the documentaition of the laptop and it has two contradictory statements.

1 place that supports up to 8192 GB of RAM. and in another place he says

    Supports the following configurations:

    • 16384 MB total system memory (8192 × 2)
    • 12288 MB total system memory (8192 × 4096 + 1 × 1)
    • 8192 MB total system memory (8192 × 4096 or 1 × 2)
    • System memory total 6144 MB (4096 × 1 + 2 048 × 1)
    • Total system memory of 4096 MB (4096 × 2 048 or 1 × 2)
    • Total system memory 3072 MB (2 048 × 1 + 1024 × 1)
    • Total system memory of 2048 MB (2 048 × 1024 or 1 × 2)

So I intend to add 8 GB X 2-16 GB of total RAM. If my system will support it?

Second - is there any specific voltage + speed + time RAM latency that I need to learn while purchasing a new RAM? Thank you

    Hello

The following link shows its specifications:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv7-entertainment-notebook-PC-series/5082216/model/5141406/document/c02863099/

It uses the Intel processor so it supports 16 GB (the book says 8 GB for AMD processor):

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02842278.PDF

The book also says he use DDR3/1333 MHz which is 1, 5V. Please use the following tool, looking at the SPD tab and you can see the existing information of RAM including the brand name:

    Hello

Hardware configuration of your system should support top of 4 GB.

    Question...

If you remove the current RAM on your system, do not your system have two slots for RAM, by superimposing each other

But technically, your system may work up to 4 GB Maximum.

  • WN810EA: update Pavilion dv7 4010sw memory

    Hi guys,.

I want to improve RAM in my notebook.

Right now I have a standard Samsung 3GBs.

I tried to mount the 2 types of memory, but it did not work with both of them.

    First was kit Kingston HyperX Impact of 2 x 4 GB, 1600 Mhz, CL9, 1.35v, PC3-12800.

So good Ram, 2 x 4 GB 1333 Mhz CL9, 1.5V, Pc3-10600 - this is identical to the original memory mounted just know except for size and didn't work too!

After installation of BIOS them two saw new memory but Windows 7 has not begun, and computer restart automatically over and over again saying that he had a problem with the Windows startup.

HP Recovery and all Windows diagnosis and repair of tools does not work as well.

When I put back old memory everything comes back to normal and to start Windows.

No idea why this laptop won't work with those memories? Help, please.

    Hello

Why not use RAM Samsung? Even they use the same characteristics, but they are not the same as you can see.

  • Maximum capacity of ssd on hp pavilion dv7 - 3165ev

I want to add a second drive (SSD) in computer HP PAVILION DV7 - 3165ev, what is the maximum capacity that can take (SSD)? example: I add a 512 GB SSD?

    The system BIOS ver: F.1D

    DV7 - 3165ev says:

    Thanks for the reply

You're right, it's too much 512 GB, I found a sumsung 250 GB SSD, but I don't know if the motherboard supports. The 512GB I put as an example.

Because the system works on SATA 2, I don't know if the motherboard can support an SSD (SATA 3) will downgrade the SATA 2 speed or not be recognized by the motherboard.

The disk SATA III will function as a SATA II but should be recognized. I don't know why but all the readers, I installed in my laptop always worked anything and especially solid discs that I stopped using current hard disks long ago.

If a Pro of Samsung 256 GB running on a laptop, I see no reason why the same Samsung Pro 512 GB should not be working on the same computer that they probably use the same SATA controller.

    Thank you very much!

Lol your laptop computer using PC3L... low voltage 1.35 volts and both those you have questions on clearly say 1.5 volt. Just in general there is no advantage to opt out of 'games' or 'performance' memory on consumer laptops. The systems are designed to work with conservative settings according to the distribution of the masses.

Your laptop will accept 16 GB of RAM, but I would say go to crucial.com and look for a guaranteed memory compatible with your laptop. You're better off with 2 identical sticks of memory because you will then have the mode "dual channel" which is a bit faster.

  • Maximum RAM on Pavilion DV7 Notebook PC

    Hello

I have a Pavilion dv7, QF272EA #ABD with 8 GB of RAM installed. Is it possible to increase the RAM 16 GB - what RAM Modules should I then? On official documents the maximum RAM is 8 GB, but at the time, documents were made, no 8 GB Modules were available.

The BIOS supports 8 GB Modules? The laptop has two slots, so my hope is, if I replace the built in 2 x 4 GB with 2x8GB, I have 16 GB of RAM.

For what I need it? Different virtual machines at the same time for running the job. :-)

I'm sorry for my bad English. Thanks for your help!

    Thorsten

    Hi, Thorsten:

    Your English is very good.

Since your computer laptop is the Intel processor, you can install 2 x 8 GB of memory.

You need PC3-10600 memory laptop. Make sure that it is 10600, not 10660 or 10666.

See the manual at the link below, Chapter 1, page 6, for the info of memory.

Now, several manufacturers of memory have produced memory 8 GB PC1333.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 not recognizing their 'new' capacity of 750 GB HARD drive.

    I have a model of HP Pavilion dv7 - 2173cl with:

    1. Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 CPU processor.
    2. Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit (factory installed Vista update) OS.
    3. 2048 MB is memory.

'SMART' HARD drive imminent failure message received:

    1. Original disc installed HARD is a 500 GB Western Digital model WD5000DBEVT.
    2. SMART two weeks' ago error messages indicating imminent failure of HDD appeared.
    3. A check of the HP Web site checked the error number corresponds to "imminent HARD drive failure.
    4. The message prompted me to 'save' the HARD drive.
    5. I completed a backup of files and an image via the "Backup and Restore" feature backup of Windows 7.
    6. The backup has been to an external Seagate 1 TB USB connected external HARD disk
    7. In addition, I created a 'Windows 7 64 bit system repair disc' using the backup and restore of Windows 7 feature.

    Replacement HARD drive:

    1. I bought a 750 GB (7200 RPM) Western Digital model WD75000BPKX.
    2. When formatting the HARD disk (via the CD of 'Windows 7 64 bit system repair disc') replacement I observed the formatting of the process that the size of the disc HARD has been reported that 500 GB (compared to the actual size of 750 GB).
    3. With the help of the rollback on the CD "repair" feature I restored it (backup on external USB connected HDD image) image.
    4. Later, I check the 'properties' from the 'device' (the new HDD of 750 GB and observed that Windows 7 also pointed out this new HARD drive as a 500 GB drive (compared to a 750 GB drive).

    Site HP Web search:

    1. A search in the Web of HP SP5575, referred to as software download site and 'run' to identify a 'Advanced Format hard drive.
    2. A downloaded execution of and run this software has given rise to the audit that the 'new' Western Digital model WD75000BPKX is an 'Advanced Format Hard Drive.
    3. The site also shows to support a 'Advanced Format hard drive' the "device driver" must be at least version 9.6.01014 Rev: has (the current version is 6.1.7600.16385).
    4. The SP50624 Web site, referred to as software to download and 'run' to update the disk device driver (found in Control Panel/Device Manager/disk drives/Driver/updated updated driver for Windows 7).
    5. I have downloaded and run SP50624 and as a guest 'Update Driver' selected in the Control Panel/Device Manager/disk/disk driver and also "indicated the location where the new driver after 'running' SP50624.
    6. Windows has responded with "the driver is up to date" and selected version 6.1.7600.16385 driver (i.e., would not version 9.6.01014 Rev: A).
    7. The software (e.g., Windows) running on the 'new' unacceptable short slow disk. It is a symptom commonly identified when a disk with 'Advanced Format' works without the drivers appropriate and formatting.

    Issues and options:

    1. Is there a solution that will allow the model of HP Pavilion dv7 - 2173cl to use this 'new HARD drive (a compatible disc HARD driver update that will install or another available solution that will accommodate a HARD drive to Format advanced such as the 750 GB (7200 RPM) Western Digital model WD75000BPKX)?
    2. Or is my only solution regarding the HP Pavilion model dv7 - 2173 cl to buy a 500 GB HDD without 'Advanced Format '?
    3. And finally buy a vintage/new laptop today.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Problem solved.

I solved the problem as follows:

    1. I chose to reload Windows 7 from "scratch" after your positive validation of this approach.
    2. This required me to reload all applications (for example, Microsoft Office).
    3. Note: A reload of the OS and Applications from "scratch" requires access to the "Product Key".
    4. During the initial charging of Windows 7 and the formatting of the 'new' drive Windows 7 provided the possibility to remove the partitions (remove/reorder) that had been affected by the recovery process 'attempt' described above. With the help of this function I eliminated the partitions and 'Add' the "unallocated" space to the overall capacity of 750 GB HARD drive.
    5. After reloading the OS, I checked via 'Properties' that all of the 750Go were present and available - success.

    Thank you for your support.
