HP pavilion dv7-4171us: hp pavilion dv7-4171us do not start. flashing lights

Hello

I'm not sure whether if I am posting this in the appropriate section.

My problem is this: my computer does not illuminate. (It was working fine last night.)

I can hear the cooler, but nothing else. The caps lock flashes once and F12 is all the time. I read that this particular way of flashing means "Non-functional CPU", but I have no idea what to do with this information.

I checked the Forum and although I found the same problem, it was another PC and the problem was not resolved. I want the little help and instructions on how to do.

Thank you.

LEDs keep blinking once every 4-5 seconds, computer does not start even in the BIOS.  Out of warranty.  The table shows the CPU is not functional.  After the hard reset several times, after the failure of the CMOS, I reinstalled the memory modules, nothing helps.  I opened the darn thing, reinstall the CPU, cleaned the existing thermal paste and replaced with a high thermal conductivity, one and clean thermal gel pads ugly that supposedly provide a cooling the GPU.  All this for nothing.

Should I assume by now that the CPU is fried, or is there a chance to distance the BIOS EPROM chip is toast and cause all this?  Someone has experience in this sense, is the flashing model good to locate the faulty component?  All ready to offer their advice Jan 11-12 HP Expert?  I replaced a BIOS chip in an another HP Pavilion of last spring, so it wouldn't be a problem.  Don't want to invest all efforts - and paste - for nothing.

In any case, this is / was my last HP laptop ever.  Between a ze4547 and this dv5z, I got so of many hardware problems, I prefer to buy netbooks cheap every two years than spend a zillion things expensive, shiny, flashy with abject genius inside.

    Thanks in advance to anyone!

Taking up this issue and reported a permanent fix (i.e., more than 5 months).  Yet once, the defect could not solder in the graphics chip ATI Radeon (Northbridge).

Chip HP ships this with a simple gel pad main Board between the radiator and the graphics, which after > 1 year of running hot develops inclusions of air and turns of conductor of heat a heat insulator.  Due to the high temperature resistance, brazing under the chip will slowly oxidize anr / or crystallize and develop cracks and inclusions of oxide.  The only solution in addition to buying a new card of mother is reinvest with a heat gun, or using a special station of redistribution and the improvement of heat transfer to the heatsink.

Here's what the complete repair consists of:

-Disassemble the laptop according to the instructions in the maintenance manual; Make sure that keep track of where each screw came from

-Remove the heat sink fan and clean the end inside of the metal fins (simply by blowing canned air will not work)

-cut a ~ 1 mm of thickness copper thick to the exact dimensions of the cushion gel covering the ATI Radeon chip and ensure its two surfaces are clear of any oxide

-Clean the CPU and the Radeon perfectly cooling surfaces using 92% isopropyl alcohol; in a similar way to wipe the corresponding surfaces of the shiny heatsink

-dissolve welding flow or Rosin in a few mL of 92% + isopropanol

-pour a few drops of this solution of rosin under the chip Radeon on all 4 sides; Rosin ensures that reinvest the chip will recreate connections free of oxide with the main card; use a pipette or a pair of tweezers for this and not to spill the solution outside the area of interest

-make a mask cardboard lined with aluminum for the entire main Board having a place of opening in the Center exactly as big as the Radeon chip; Make sure that the coating of aluminum foil extends to the lower part of the mask through the operning square to protect the card against high temperatures. use this youtube video as a guide (minute 06:50)

-heat gun to regular heat on 'Medium' (or 'Low' if only two power settings); taking the mask in place immediately on top of the Radeon chip using a tool metal long (so you do not burn your fingers), slowly heat by lowering the gun hot air for the duration of a minute

-maintain the hot graphics chip for about 30 seconds into the air gun hot about 1-2 inches above the chip. Make sure that the mask with double foil is aligned with the chip to avoid burning its below or other components of the motherboard; consider wearing a thermal glove or leather on the hand that holds the mask down with this tool metal long

-slowly raise the heat gun on the time of ~ 30 seconds and then remove the mask and let the chip and the main map to cool for about 1-2 minutes

-It is best to test repair before reassembly of the computer; to do this, connect the power button, display, cooling fan, a single chip of RAM and a charged battery to the main card and turn on the laptop the bone bare; See the HP logo on the screen for a success to reinvest

-use of money from high-quality thermal compound (for example, Arctic Silver 5) and coat the surfaces of cooling of the CPU and Radeon chip, as well as the corresponding surfaces on the heatsink of heat and the puck in copper, with one layer, thin and uniform; Wipe all spilled; Place the wedge of copper on the graphics chip and carefully assemble the heat sink; don't forget to plug the fan on the main card

-Finally, back up the phone by following the steps for disassembly in reverse order; do not mix the screws, like using a long screw where it was not may cause a short circuit or cracks in the main map

-Use of SpeedFan to monitor the performance of you cooling system in the processor; periodically blow out or spend vacuuming of dust between the cooling fins.

    Good luck to lovers!

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 does not start

My HP Pavilion dv7t-3000 does not start. I checked this article: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674

According to who, the error condition is: 'non-functional CPU.

So if I buy a new processor and disassemble the laptop and replace the processor, it will fix the problem?

Perhaps, but it is much more likely to be the motherboard. If the motherboard is bad, you can't trust the blink codes that it generates. Failures of the CPU but rarely occur. Motherboard failure happens all the time.

  • DV7-1232NR does not start

DV7-1232NR does not start. The lights above the keyboard, the dvd player makes a bit of noise, then eventually the lights Verr Num and caplock do a slow blink continuously. As I understand it, flashing for default codes flashing one to six times, and then exit.

    Hello

As you have no doubt already concluded, it would look like a significant failure of hardware, in particular given the fact that there was no change when the memory has been removed completely.  Unfortunately, the most likely component is the video chip which really means a new motherboard.

The only other possibility might be interesting to try is to remove the module WLAN (Page 51), leave the battery and try to start Notepad on the entire sector.

    Kind regards

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4065dx laptop with Windows 7 64 bit that won't start or go to the Bios screen.  When the laptop is turned on, you hear the fan from the system start, start button / stop brighter lights and the caps lock button starts to Flash continuously once every three to four seconds.  The activity of the disc is also light on but with no flashing red.  No changes have been made to the laptop and it worked perfectly well a few hours earlier.  I tried the hard reset of the computer and the reinstallation of the memory cards, but the laptop would be still not start.  Any help to determine what the problem is with the computer would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

It does not appear that a hardware problem has occurred.

After reviewing the document for the blink code, it seems that the processor does not have.

A defective processor can be repaired by a local PC store, but I highly recommend you contact the HP support by phone to see what options are available. HP repair center would be able to identify the appropriate components that will need to be replaced in the rare case that the test gave flashing evil code.

    Hello

    You are welcome

Error 303 is a failure of the short drive self-test that really confirms the earlier diagnosis result, so it looks like you need to replace the hard drive.

I'm gueesing isn't, but if your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the replaced disk - you can check your warranty status here.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.

Otherwise, if you need to replace the HARD drive yourself, here is a little guide.

The player at the link below is an example of one that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 47 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

    Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

  • Pavilion G6-1b59wm does not start

Nice day.. I have a G6 Pavilion that does not start when you push the power button. I tried it on battery only and with the power supply cord is plugged in. And yet nothing.

Here's what I see: when the power supply cord is plugged in, the power supply next to the port light is white. I press the power button it flashes white momentarily (and it flashes F12). Nothing else happens. No other led lite, the screen remains black.

    Diagnosis steps followed:

    1. the battery was removed, and unplugged. Start button / stop for 30 seconds and reconnected. Nothing.

    2. battery removed and plugged into the wall. Start button / down stop and nothing.

3 tried a different power cord, different battery... nothing

4 removed boards from the RAM, button / Stop button... nothing

5 deleted from the hard disk (RAM yet uninstalled), button / Stop button... nothing

  • HP Pavilion p6-2054uk: HP Pavilion p6-2054uk does not start all of a sudden upward. Help, please.

I hope someone can help here?

I have a desktop HP Pavilion p6-2054uk (Windows 7 64 bit - i5, 3.00 Ghz - 6 GB of RAM) that I bought in 2012 and especially use of HP products.

By starting my PC the other day, it will not start and crashes on the HP splash screen. When you press ESC, F10 and F1 and F8, it simply changes the screen to a black screen with 7 lines of text giving the details of my PC base on this subject. It should give me other optins at this stage, but does not work.

The HP Pavilion p6-2054uk hard drive does not start even another hard drive OS I've tried from another computer with Windows 7 64 bit on it. Troubleshooting a few others, I even tried a fresh new hard drive in it with a new copy of Windows 7 64 bit to install into the CD Rom and it will not yet go through the HP start - that is abnormal screen since usually, it detects the Windows CD and install. Furthermore, fans in the PC work normal, as the eject the power of the PC CD ROM light is on too. I tried all the three available inside power cables and tried diferent nine cables sata/data and another monitor entry too, all to nothing done.

The hard drive that was in the HP Pavilion p6-2054uk when he stopped to start up is fully accessible when placed in the other machine I have. Therefore, it is still operational.

The notable thing only I did in the days before it were installing Adobe Creative Suite 6 but I do not think that it would cause a major problem like this, noting also that another hard disk OS (without Creative Suite 6 is installed) and a new facility wouldn't start either. Therefore, I am afraid a harware issue any.

What could be going on here?

Side for the second or 2 of optimism about the usual boot the PC normally makes noises, it looks like he died immediately after, suspended on the HP screen.

    Thanks in advance.

    R.

    Hello.

    I use a HP Pavilion laptop 1045ej g6. The laptop is 4 years and 3 days ago, I replaced the cpu of i3 380 m to i7 640 m.

After the repalcement of the laptop won't start, fans were whirring but the BIOS screen came. The Caps Lock key flashes at intervals of one, the wireless button is orange and that's all. Its been like that since.

    Any suggestions?, please help.

    Hi there @Mr_Potato.

The led near the caps lock shift keys and numlock blinks if a fault is detected during the boot process. The LEDs flash multiple times in a sequence and then stops. The number of flashes of the sequence is 1 blink. This means that the processor is not functional.

Source: computer does not start and emits a LED or beep Code

You can try to reinstall the CPU and check all connections first of all to see if maybe it just has not read correctly, as you said you just replace the CPU.

Although you had mentioned, you have replaced the i3 - 380 m with an i7 - 640 m. I found the CPU that came with the notebook in the table for the previous generation Intel® processors. Then, I checked to see what is compatible. Please look at HP Pavilion g6-1045ej Notebook PC Maintenance and Service of Guide on page 1.

Thank you for being a part of the community of HP. Please let me know if this helps solve the problem. If you need assistance I will gladly do everything I can to help. If you want to say 'Thank you' to my effort to help, please click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
