  • Pavilion N5415 notebook replacement hard drive

I have an older Pavilion N5415 Notebook and hard drive died. HP no longer wears the replacements I can order online. The old drive is an IBM & reg Travelstar 4200 RPM 10 GB, ATA/IDE, 2.5 "x 9.5 mm. I need to know what I can safely replace this drive with." I found one on amazon.com with the following specifications and I need to know if it will work:

    • Hitachi Travelstar 4 K 120 HTS421280H9AT00 80 GB portable hard drive
    • Buffer 8 MB spindle speed 80 GB storage capacity IDE UDMA/100 4200 RPM interface
    • 7.1 ms average latency average 11 ms read seek time format 2.5 inch 9.5 mm drive height factor

What other specs do I need to be concerned in addition to rpm and physical size?

    Thank you!

32 GB is only a problem on some old computers... no need to worry. Once you have passed this barrier the next barrier is 137 gigs which does nothing more than 120 concerts can be used. I don't know the N5415 will be executed against this barrier. So whatever it is a disk of 120 Go up is ok and not better or worse than a smaller drive. Indeed, young readers tend to be older design, which means that they are running more hot and use more power.

The hard drive in your ntoebook is not listed as a because the removal and the replacement Crus requires major disassembly of the laptop.

If you accept full responsibility, doesn't bother me violate the guarantee and uncomfortable with doing replace yourself, then here is the maintenance and service guide. Look for resplacement of hard disk. Looking for a PM. Your laptop has an AMD or Intel CPU?

  • HP Pavilion 17: mouse pad does not work after replacing hard drive

    Hello

After replacing hard drive and installing windows 8.1, I can't use my mouse pad.

I installed the Synaptics driver but it didn't help.

How can I check that mousepad device is not damaged when replacing the hard drive and which also can I try to fix the mouse pad?

    USB mouse works fine.

    See you soon

The only way to be sure is to open it up and see if the touchpad cable was disconnected during the upgrade of the hard drive. That's my bet. Easy to forget when you're winding. You don't provide complete model number, but many of the recent models Pavilion 17 require removal of the cover together to get hard disk that requires disconnection of the touchpad cable.

"Application and driver Recovery DVD" are not a (hardware) boot media, you need an operating system to be installed first.

OS install first, after that the drivers and applications.

  • Pavilion p6367c: replacement hard drive

2nd HD failure in 4 years. 1st in warranty and HP replaced and provided the recovery disks.  Now failed once again and I bought the replacement of 1 TB drive. I did the recovery disks by following the instructions from PC when I got it originally. I made a new copy a couple of days, when I realized that HD should fail again. Question is what disks to use once I have replace the drive in the PC? Can I use the HP sent me the last time in 2011 for the purpose of recovering the system or use the new I burned on DVD a few days ago? They are essentially the same thing? If I remember the last time, the disks configured with partitions HD, reinstalled the operating system, etc. Please notify. Thank you.

    You are the very welcome.

I just think that factory records could have a better chance of working.

Specific no reason why I feel like that, but it's what I would do.

  • Portege 7220 - replacement hard drive problem

I have a Portege 7220 CTe Windows 98se. The hard drive is deteriorating slowly (bad sectors), so I decided to replace it. The old drive is a Toshiba 6 GB. The news is an IBM/Hitachi Travelstar 10 GB - so-called and apparently unused but dated from 01 Sept.

Summary: the drive has worked once in the Portege, but doesn't work anymore. It continues to operate through a USB interface to another system.

I did the following. (I don't know that there are a lot of unimportant details, I just can't tell who might be relevant):

-Checked the new drive with Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. Ran on the Portege, booting from CD in the docking station. The perfect extract player.
-Make a backup image the old drive on another computer (XP desktop computer) using a USB box and the reflection of Macrium.
-Restored the image to the new drive (using the same USB box).
-In Ran XP Scandisk and defragmentation on the restored drive (no problem, does significant defrag)
-Cleanly removed from the XP system USB and road of the housing
-Put the new, restored in car in the Portege and turned on.

The system could not start, (indirectly) saying that HIMEM. SYS was missing. I plugged the drive into the XP system. Indeed \WINDOWS\HIMEM. SYS was missing, along with the rest of the content of \WINDOWS. The rest of the matching content to the backup. ???????

I copied \WINDOWS to the backup image to the new drive. Neatly removed from the XP system and put in the Portege.

Starting from Win98 system. I tried to start a random application and become system that is not responding.

From this point, I may have not all the actions in the order, but I doubt that counts. I tried the following:

-Hitachi Drive Fitness Test running. He first found the drive but returned an error 'drive not ready '. After repeated attempts to re-seat assigned, check on the XP system, etc it is unable to find the drive to all the
-Go into the BIOS at startup. Sometimes found the drive, sometimes not.
-Office XP still recognizes the player very well via the USB interface. ScanDisk is happy with it, including the surface scan. Hitachi utility only works with ATA or SCSI disks, and I do not have an ATA desktop-laptop adapter.
-Made a new restoration of the saved image. It worked well, but the Portege wouldn't even find the drive.
-Tried the old drive and a travelstar 6 GB to another system in the Portege. Both work very well.
-Tried the new disk in a Portege 7020. Do not just like in the 7220.

I thought maybe it was a power issue. But the two Travelstars (one that works and a new one that doesn't) are valued at 500 my. The old disk from Toshiba which also always works is estimated at 700mA.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently, there's something wrong with your 10 GB travelstar, maybe the MBR or the boot sector

the fact that you can read with a USB connector doesn't mean that the HD is correct, since you do not need the boot sector of this way

I would advice to wipe it completely (with cleandisk or boot-TI-NG), make a new partition with fdisk and reformat the HD in fat32 format

That to do a fresh install with W98, or better: W2000, which spans a 7220 easily and is much better

It is best to copy the directory to install W2000, integer i386 installation CD - on the 10 GB HD (which can be done on another PC with a USB connection) and begin the installation of BACK with Windows NT. EXE

  • HP ENVY 14 2020NR: need a recommendation for a replacement hard drive

    Greetings,

I have an a HP ENVY 14 2020NR with a hard drive died. Blue several screens before the new year, did a complete system restore, which seemed to have fixed things. Unfortunately, after 10 days the blue screens are back. The unit is several years old, and my next step is to replace the hard drive. I have all the data backed up elsewhere and ready DVD restore disc.

Here are the specs of the drive:

    Hitachi disc HARD 7 K 750-750. P/N H2T7501672S.

I am trying to identify the right replacement hard drive. Looks like it was 750 GB at 7200 RPM. Some choice out there. Can anyone recommend the correct replacement hard drive?

    Thanks in advance!

    DaniBoy

Based on the laptop HP ENVY 14 - Maintenance Service Guide, it seems that your computer supports the following readers and more.

6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard drives (HD) and the SSDS (SSD), 9.5 mm (. 37-in) and thicknesses of 7.0 mm (. 28 - in)
    Customer-accessible
    Serial ATA
Supports the following hard disk configurations:
    ● 750 GB (7200 RPM)
    ● 640 GB (7200 RPM)
    ● 500 GB (7200 RPM)
    ● 320 GB (7200 RPM)

Supports the following simple SSD drive configurations:
    ● 128 GB mSATA,
    ● 80 GB, mSATA
    ● 160 GB, SATA

According to the above information, any hard disk 2.5 "SATA or SSD of 9.5 mm and 7.0 mm profile should work fine. This includes the newer readers who are more capacious.

  • Windows 7 Windows update does not work after replacing hard drive

Win7 Home Premium and HP Pavilion DV6-2150US.  Failed hard drive.  I bought a Seagate 500 GB replacement (original drive was 250 GB) and used my purchased HP re - install DVD to re - build Windows and reinstall the OEM software on the new hard drive.

Everything starts fine, but he won't deal of Windows updates (. e. is a big red X on the screen of windows update).  I tried Microsoft "Mr Fix it" download - but it error and none of the other suggestions Microsoft not work either.  When I had the chance to talk with a MS tech support person, she suggested that somehow windows on the new drive is not authentic, etc...  Although windows on the new drive hard indicates that its active and authentic... is there some kind of checking a number of the hard disk 'really' activate windows?

Just to make sure that my reinstall was not corrupt, I deleted the new hard drive and began in everywhere... I have the exact same result... it boots fine, but will not update through windows update.  The only other change to the laptop was that I had better buy double the memory to 8 of 4 when I bought 2 years ago... once again, do not know if there is a kind of material exchange limitation before disabling the windows software.

Help, please!  I'm really stuck.  THX JimmyC

Thanks for your post... I solved my problem by installing the update driver Intel rapid storage through this link:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02219204

I suppose that as long as the hard drive is lower 250Gig you need not the new driver.  But when I replaced my hard drive failed with a disc 500gig hard - when I did restore HP to Win7 and the OEM software from the dvd, I bought - it put the storage driver original in Win7 - which works very well with a 250 GB drive, but causes the windows update doesn't work is not for readers more than 250gig.   When I installed the driver from the link above file, Windows Update started working - and you can imagine there are many, many fixes since my PC has been restored to original Win7 - doesn't not even Win 7 SP1.

I hope it helps someone else... thank you for your message.  JimmyC

  • 15 - r174ca: replacement hard drive

Hey guys, I'm not good with this part pick up stuff so I hope you can help out me. I got this laptop from my cousin, so I'm not completely sure of what I am working with

My hard drive failed on my laptop:

I'm not entirely sure which hard drive to replace it with so any info would be helpful. The only thing I'm certain of is the 5400 RPM.

Also, if someone could recommend some items online / in-store (Canada), which are at a good price for their performance features, it would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance

You must understand that the replacement hard drive you must remove the entire lid and jeopardizes security:

    Your repair manuals

    See pages 53-59.

As long as you do successfully the replacement, HP will honor still guarantee, however. Just be careful in here.

You can use any 2.5 inches wide and 9.5 or 7 mm thick hard SATA or SSD.

the 5400 RPM drives are a significant bottleneck, so in my mind you want to get at least a 7200 RPM hard drive and you really want to get a SSD drive if the budget allows.
