HP printer insists on connecting the weak WiFi AP

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 and it works very well with a serious exception... wifi connectivity. He always insists on connecting to a wifi access point at the back of my house (100' through many walls) rather than the point of access within 30 feet of the printer. The access point only providing 1-2 bars and inconsistent connectivity. When I turn off the distant access point and the printer connects immediately close access point and provides a strong connection with 4-5 bars and stable... stable connectivity, that is, until I got back on the distant access point. When I turn on the distant access point, stays of the printer with the close access point for a while, but at some point (maybe when the printer goes to sleep), it switches to the distant access with low and inconsistent connectivity point.

My network description:

I use Centurylink DSL and have a CenturyLink C1000a modem/router with active wifi. The C1000a is ~ 30 ft of the printer and provides an excellent signal when the printer connects to it.

I have a DLink DIR - 655 Router wifi connected to the C1000a via ethernet. The DIR-655 router is configured as an access point (for example, no DHCP, identical SSID and passwords, different channels 1 and 11). I checked this put in place several times, and it works perfectly with all my other devices/clients that roam between access points (e.g., iPad 2, 3 laptops, iPhone, Blackberry). The HP printer behaves differently and strongly prefer try to connect to the router DIR-655 (11 HP) with a signal low, even if the C1000a (Ch1) has a strong signal... There must be other criteria, he plans when you select an access point.

I tried:

I seems to have had some marginal improvements in turning down of emission power * and * setting of the antennas of DIR - 655 to minimise energy directed to the printer (i.e., I indicated the bipole in the direction of the printer antennas the antenna power is reduced in the direction of the printer), but she still wants to try to establish links with the DIR-655 router.

I noticed that HP web site indicates there is an update of firmware for my printer (model 8600 N911g) advertised as improving wifi set up, but when I try to install it, the installation tool indicates the update is not applicable and won't let me install it.

I became a lot more to know about WiFi (I'm an engineer and learn about such things), but I'm to the point where I don't know what else to try, other than to return the HP printer and get another brand. I've seen similar problems posted online without any resolution, and another brand is the only solution that seems to work. Any help would be appreciated.

It can work when you are connected to the AP later, but he frequently gives errors when you try to print. It is unreliable and very frustrating when connected via the AP further. It works fine when connected to the AP closer.

I have tried switching the channels. It turns the channels my neighbours makes best of set up the way it is, but I'll give that a try.

    I tried this site and I remember there were some problems.  It turns out that there must be default windows drivers and they work fine.  I finally got to work and my Chromecast is upward and the work.

  • My dilemma - should keep the K1 despite the intensity of the weak wifi signal?

    So here's my story:

    I bought Lenovo K1 for many during the period of holiday Office Depot for $299. It was worn and really poor wifi signal strength. I wanted to Exchange, but Office Depot informed me that the K1 had been abandoned, so they gave me a refund. I was really sold on the K1 and thought maybe it was just my camera, so I ended up buying a new K1 on Amazon for about $350. I ran all the updates and I am now on the latest version of the software. Unfortunately, the new tab is range and low resistance. It is little matter where I am. I used it at home, in my office, at the in-laws, and the signal strength is low.

    Here's what I've done so far:

    -J' tried to leaving my router settings, based on the reading of the various recommendations of various forums-still no luck. (However, still would not help if I'm out and about.)

    -J' I download and run Wifi Analyzer, I normally vary between 65-75 dBm while standing within 8 to 20 feet from the router. (Comparable to my HTC Evo, but 15-20 dBM below my laptop at the same place).

    -J' used the speed Test from Ookla app - around 5 Mbps down to 2.5 (my colleague was getting up at the same place on his ipad around 20 Mbit/s down and 10Mbps).

    I'm at a crossroads now - I really, really like the K1 for most. It was a very good price, I really don't want to spend over $ 400 on a tablet. But since a lot of my use requires internet connection, is it worth keeping?

    Or should I just go back, put my money and wait for the Lenovo S1 Tablet out in June-July.

    Any comments would be much appreciated!

    For what it's worth, my K1 Gets the same results as my Nook Tablet - 12 down and 2-up on TW at home.

    Edit: got 18/2 this morning, same place. TW to blame for the lack of consistency.

    Usually, the best way to resolve this type of problem is to uninstall the printer and then reinstalling it again.

    Download the full recommended software here...

    Turn off the printer, then unplug the USB from the computer.

    Right-click on Start, choose Control Panel> programs> uninstall a program.

    Uninstall everything about the HP printer , including the printer, HP image zone, Director of HP's image, or what is installed on your system.

    Also uninstall all other printers (if any) that you do not use.

    Restart the computer and the printer (do not connect the USB cable again).

    Right-click on Start and choose Control Panel> hardware and sound> devices and printers and make sure that the printer is no more. If that is the case, then right-click on it and choose Remove the instrument.

    Install the downloaded software and drivers from above. Follow the instructions that it will ask you to plug the USB cable into the computer.
