I am running windows vista and am warned there is a problem with windows media center, restart my computer and try again. It did not work. Help

Run the Setup again.

Open WMC > tasks > settings > General > installation Windows Media Center > rerun the installation

Does that help?

If the above does not help then try to reset WMC: -.

Open Control Panel > uninstall a program > turn Windows features on or off > scroll multimedia features > uncheck the box against Windows Media Center > follow the instructions on the screen > Reboot > open again to turn Windows features on or off in the control panel > scroll multimedia features > check the box against Windows Media Center.

Now reconfigure WMC again

    I have a HP m8034n pc with a tuner Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC Combo.  The pc came with Vista and Windows media center worked great just with the tv tuner.  I upgraded to Windows 7, December 2 and fail to put in place my tv with WMC tuner.  The recorded shows that I had before the upgrade to Windows 7 appear and play without problem in WMC. I used the hardware diagnostic tool that is installed on my pc to control the Tuner, and during the test, I can see fine TV stations.  This unit is compatible according to microsoft Windows 7. I have the latest driver and tried to uninstall and reinstall. I ran Windows Update and everything is up-to-date. After that WMC checks tuners, it says:

It then displays a confirmation of analog cable and my cable provider, I click Next again and the error message "installation TV met with a serious problem. Click Finish to exit, and then try again. If this problem persists, restart Windows Media Center or the computer. "appears.

    I even tried to set up the signal manually and on the confirmation screen, I click Next, and get the exact same error.

    I would really appreciate any help and if more details are required, please let me know.  Thank you!

    -Doug

    I don't know what happened, I left my PC off overnight and planned reformatting today. But I decided to give him another chance. Instead of saying the tuner was not available. He showed me a static snow image strong, as he was trying to use my Analogue tuner. In fact, it is supposed to use the composite input for my cable box. I re set my TV signals, and now everything works well again. Its strange because I reboot half a dozen times last night and it's never worked. Leaving the PC turned off for the night must have done the trick, I guess.

    Hello;

    Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

    I read your post on your PC not start and I wanted to help.

    I wish I got good news for you, but I did not, as it sounds a bit like the hard drive has failed, what is to be expected if this PC XP - era still has the original drive.

    We have a few troubleshooting steps to test the drive but they only work on recent PC.

    What could work is by pressing ESC, or F1 or F2, when you start to see if one of these enter you a Setup screen, and if they do, choose to run the diagnostics from there to go to disk.

    If the drive has failed, there is bad news (sorry!) -in that HP long leaves Jersey recovery media for XP - era machines, so there is nothing you can order from HP to restore your PC to a new drive.

    Given that HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

    And if not enough bad news, I guess that the hard drive in your XP machine has something known as an IDE interface.  You can tell by looking at the back of the car where the data cable connects.  If it is a large flat cable (about 2 inches wide) and there are a bunch of small pins where it connects on the disc, then it IS an IDE drive and those who are practically impossible to find, as the industry player opted for SATA disks making a few years back.

    Sorry... but it's time to think seriously to switch to a newer PC.

    Good luck

    I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

  • Problems to Windows Media Center on my computer

    So in the computer that I have, the Media Center came with the computer and everything. Recently, I had a computer problem where my computer was stuck in a reboot cycle. It was fixed and now my computer works very well, but since they had to change the essential to a secondary antibody motivation and get a new drive, much of my stuff is still in the secondary drive (i). In any case, now Media Center is not there at all, and I was wondering if there is a way to do it because most of the default help revolves around already have it in your computer, which I did not. So if someone could give me help or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. And if you need more information on my computer so please ask.

    Thank you!

    No - there is no way to install Media Center, short installation like what it is: an operating system.  It is not an installable application.

    I need to inject a few words of warning at this point: because you could not suppy him with your drives and he has (apparently) is not MCE2k5 media available to him... you have the back of two things:
    1. really, really broken BONES (if he used an XP Pro disk and your product key - MCE2k5 CD1 IS actually XP Pro; the key indicates the installation program to be the bits of the CD2.  If CD2 is not provided upon request; Windows will be major, major problems.  But, it'll show in system as a Media Center Edition properties);
    2 - a lot of XP Pro licensed copy (if it has installed with an XP Pro disk and used a key he had "hang out".)

    A repair guy that is really worthy of its name would have put appropriate media at its disposal (I know I do...)
    Because it does not, my suggestions are as follows:
    1. find a person who does not have good press;
    2. contact your PC vendor, to see if they can still provide (or sell) you filtering alternatives;
    3 - If you bought the PC from a smaller provider (or a system integrator) who is no longer in business, you can order filtering alternatives of here:
    https://OM.one.Microsoft.com/OPA/validation.aspx?storeid=b19f4ce9-dfcb-44e4-9abe-1c9dfbad47d0&LocaleCode=en-us&JavaScriptOn=Yes
    I think they'll charge you $20 for the disks (if available).

    (BTW: I assume that it's Media Center 2005 that was installed?)  MCE2k4, however, was quite similar that the fis would be the same - reinstall with the correct version of Windows.)
