  The operating system is not relevant to reset the NVRAM since the reset occurs before the OS is loaded again.  Try making sure that all four keys are pressed at the same time and kept pressed until the startup chime once and the computer is automatically restarted.

  What you have said above, you pressed the reset button with the unplugged router.  That will do nothing.  Plug in the router and wait 60 seconds.  With the power on, press and hold the button of reset for 30 seconds and then release.  Wait 30 seconds and now the router power cycle.  Connect with your wired computer to 192.168.1.1 empty user name, admin password and reconfigure.

  As mentioned by you that Firefox works fine when it is started in safe mode - is that at the time? To find out if some of the addons/plugins you have installed is causing the browser to freeze, can you please try disabling addons one by one to see if it helps to find the plugin that may cause this problem.

  Also, can you please confirm if you saw this question earlier or if it's something you started to notice once you have switched to Firefox 26.0.
