  Have a friend s EQUIUM P300-P6T wishing me fix but recovery issues.

  It currently has windows 7 installed on separate partitions WXP can choose which operating system to start when loading. The factory for the laptop is Vista but it has replaced the one with 7.
  However, some of the Vista Boot files are damaged and cannot be mounted by Windows Recovery then resembles a new Vista installation is necessary.

  This should not seem like a problem but:

  (a) I tried holding 0 down as I turn to access the recovery partition (which still exists I see it within the management of the computer if I load xp) but it doesn't do anything, so I can't recover from the recovery partition.
  (b) I tried to reinstall Vista on this partition by using a disk of vista OEM however, when it happens at the stage of "complete installation" the progress bar stays in the same place forever about 3/4 of the way through as if it crashed.
  (c) I managed to get an installation of windows 7 on it, but when I charged it, it does not recognize the keyboard or a touchpad (even if not a problem with the drivers for each), and yet the cursor can be moved with a USB mouse is connected. In addition, the boot partition has now given a choice of "xp", vista, the older installations of windows

  Saved on the HARD drive recovery image can be used with the factory only settings. With other words: when the original recovery image is installed, you will have full access to this recovery image. Only way it have factory settings again is to use the recovery DVD disc. If your friend didn't create this disc (without taking into account the recommendation of Toshiba s) that you have big problem now.

  1. I burned a copy dvd recovery media, on a laptop A660 k17. There are two partitions on the disk that I think are there for the recovery.   So I goto Toshiba Recovery Wizard
  Press Yes to say it will wipe the drive.
  Retrieves the software factory default
  In the end, I get an error message

  Error: 003
  Recovery error

  Press ok to start the computer

  The only thing I can think is that maybe when I created the USB startup key should I copy then disk2 on the stick as well using xcopy.

  The recovery media or the hard drive is may be defective. Wrong settings of the BIOS, etc...

  I recommend you to check once more the Toshiba Recovery bootable disc.
  I don t think that there might be a problem with the optical disc drive.
  From my point of view, it could be a bad BIOS setting.

  The Satellite Pro L870-172 has been pre-installed with the system Win 8.
  Please check start secure as well as the UEFI boot mode option in the BIOS.

  The laptop supports recovery of HARD drive option. This means that you can reinstall the image of Toshiba without using the recovery DVD. You must boot up the laptop and press the F8 key.
