I can't open a document because the file extension

Hello

I can't open a psd document. I am told that the file extension is not fair. What can I do? What I rep are my document?

Thank you

Axel

It is likely that the file is corrupted then.  We hear your story several times a year, where a system down to halfway through recording a Photoshop file, corrupts the file in a nonrecoverable way.  There are utilities to repair PSD there, they rarely work, but I guess you have nothing to lose.

Institute of freshwater, after seeing this happens so often, I increment the file name and save it, at least once per hour when working on large projects.

BTW, the history of daftest I remember was a poster who worked on a laptop on battery power.  He knew the battery became low, but wouldn't stop what he was doing to connect the power supply, he said.  He ignored several warnings before even taking the time to save the document, and of course, the laptop is dead in the Middle when he finally tried to save.   It was a kind of techno-darwinisme in action, and I wish that I had put the thread bookmarked at the time.

  • There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and cannot be repaired.

    Greetings,

I searched the forums, and this mistake has been examined in the context of how to treat a damaged PDF file.

My question is a little different. The company that I am working has a tool to create what we call "knowledge base articles", i.e. product XML authoring with us help topics. They used this tool from 2008. Files can be attached to a topic. The XML files and attached PDF files is stored in a SQL database. Using the TOC Panel or the search function, relevant topics are retrieved.

When there is an attached PDF, users can view the PDF in the browser or download the file and open it locally.

The knowledge base has been moved from an environment of database SQL 2005 in Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 for an environment database of SQL 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 7.

Now that we have the following problem: in some subjects the downloaded PDF can't be opened and one error

"There is an error opening this document. The file is damaged and cannot be repaired. "is displayed. The curious is that some PDF files published this error, while others open without a problem. Source file all PDF files open without a hitch before they are downloaded.

Any advice or pointers would be very appreciated.

    TIA, Donna

    Donna,.

as you have probably read in a lot of discussions on this matter, this error message is usually correct, and the PDF file is damaged. As for how it gets damaged, it's something you need to know by poking around in your system. Here are a few general things that always apply when working with corrupt files:

The first thing I would do is open such a file corrupted in a text editor such as NotePad to see what it actually contains. Any valid PDF file must begin with '% PDF -' followed by a version number. If you don't see that in the first line, then you are not dealing with a PDF file and you know why you do not get the file saved in your knowledge base.

If this string is there, then you know that there a PDF file and the issue is somewhere in this file, and is where it gets much more complex. You will need a good understanding of the PDF specification to parse the file to see what is wrong with him.

If you're lucky, you'll actually have a file of length zero (which means also no PDF header). No valid PDF file cannot be zero bytes long. Your second chance case would you find in fact an HTML error in this file (instead of PDF content), that tells you the reason for the problem (but again, this depends on your system).

  • Photo Gallery can't open this picture. The file format is not supported or you do not have the latest updates to the photo gallery?

I received an email with pictures and the bos appeared Photo Gallery can't open this picture.  The file format is not supported or you do not have the latest updates to the photo gallery.  I am running Vista on a Toshiba laptop that I bought in July 2009.  What I can do to update the Photo Gallery or something else to see the pictures.  I tried to download Stuffit Expander, but which did not help.

    Hello
Thank you for using the Microsoft Vista answers Forum.

What is the file format of the images?

All the pictures have the same symptoms?

Disable the antivirus software on your computer and check if it works very well.

Make sure you have all updates for your version of Vista.

You can also try the new Windows Live Photo Gallery, as it has more features and should solve your problem.

  • Adobe Acrobat - 'there was an error opening this document. The file is not found.

    Guys,

I have a virtual layer to Adobe Flash player, with a point of entry to Internet Explorer. Apart from that, we used Thinreg to associate pdf files with a Thinapp copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 (using the allusers switch). We find that, while trying to open online pdf files, Acrobat Reader load then shows the error "there was an error opening this document. The file is not found. If we save the file and open it works very well.

I am positive that it is a problem of isolation somewhere in the config layer of Acrobat Reader, but have not been able to track it down. It is probably that the Acorbat layer not looking outside of himself for the temporary internet folder that contains the pdf file that IE has cached?

Everyone falls on something similar and has a solution?

    Matt

Try to set the modes of insulation for your temporary folders (%temp%, % internet cache) merged to your package of IE. In addition, in our environment, we put % internet merged cache%/contents.is5. Not sure if it makes a difference.

  • Cannot open the document because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to open the file.

I am a member of the Administrators group on my computer.  I have a folder full of files and other folders that I denied access for administrator users.  Not sure when it appeared that I had gone for the holidays, but now I am unable to open the files located in this folder.  I can delete, move, and rename at will, but can not open.  I tried all the resets of permissions I can think as well as read all knowledge base articles I can find but still not get these files to open.

I've recently updated MS Security Essentials, do not know if this has a any correlation.

At one point, I saw the certificate and it ranked as not approved.  How would this change?  Would this impact my ability to open files yet again let me move, delete and rename?  If so, how can I solve?

I restore to a restore point previous and not yet open - also received an error message telling me MS Security Essentials would not work properly.  So I undid the restore.

Thank you in advance for any input.  PatrixUSA

In fact, it starts to make a lot of sense today.  The files that you have problems with have been encrypted with EFS.  EFS is closely related to the NTFS file system.  As long as you move files encrypted in the same Volume, it is not a problem, because a move is an operation of directory and the directories themselves are not encrypted (only the files that are there).  Whenever you move an encrypted volume to another file, the file must be decrypted, transferred to the other volume, then re-encrypted to destination.  Thus, the destination volume must be a NTFS file system to keep encrypted files.  If the destination is not a NTFS volume, then the copy would result in a file that is not encrypted at the destination and you will be prompted as to whether or not to allow the operation.  In all cases, a copy of volume-volume requires decryption of the file and any operation that requires a decryption error of access for you - more your inability to open a file normally indicates that you no longer control the certificate to decrypt the file.

Backups are another matter.  If you are using Microsoft Backup utility (NTbackup), so he recognizes the encrypted file attribute and it backs up as - is without decoding.  Other 3rd third-party backup programs may not recognize the encrypted files and simply read and write to the backup media.  When this happens, the files are automatically decrypted to read (assuming the user certificates requires archiving) and writings of backup to a file unencrypted.  This would explain why you can retrieve an archive and it is not encrypted.  DVD and optical bands do not use NTFS, so a decryption of the original file is required to save in these environments.

The private part of your (needed for decryption of files) EFS encryption certificate itself is stored encrypted on your computer.  To decrypt, Windows uses your SecureID, password, and other things of which I'm unaware.  If your password is not reset in the normal way (i.e. by entering your current password and your new password) such as an administrator, then your certificate is not re-encrypted to your new password and your access lose him and with him, access to your EFS files.  Other forms of corruption can cause you to lose your certificate, but it seems that at some point you have lost access to your certificate and therefore cannot access files that have been encrypted under this certificate.

New files that you write in a directory that has been activated with EFS will notice that you have a valid certificate and then automatically generate a new certificate that will be used to encrypt files from right now.  That's why the new files that you add to this directory appear to work well.  The only real mystery what I can't explain is the reason why a system restore to a time where it wasn't a problem does not allow you to restore access.

If you want some heavy reading, try this:

"Encrypting file system in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003"

Personally, I'm not fan of the EFS because of problems like this.  I prefer the freewareTruecrypt which is just as safe, but I myself manage keys (in the form of password) instead of Windows.  Also, it hides the names of files and can be used safely on a connection in network and backup from windows volume is encrypted little matter how they are done.  I have not lost all data encrypted in more than a decade.

  • Why I can not open My Documents, pictures, music files and video in my libraries

Hello. I just formatted my laptop in an hour ago, and now I can't open all the folders inside the library. I try to Double click on the Documents folder, I hear the sounds by clicking but nothing happens. No error at all. Don't just open. Help, please. I am running Windows 7 32 bit by the way.

In fact, I am referring to your user name folders which are the same as your lists of library / or should be.

You have changed the menu Favorites and probably libraries by default,

Right click the libraries list and click on restore default libraries.

Right-click on Favorites list and click Restore favorite links.
