I can't open windows update in Safe Mode. Also blue screen at startup ('a forward driver a buffer based on the battery'

My laptop keeps hitting a blue screen at startup ('a forward driver a buffer based on the stack'), I can only start it in safe mode. I want to try windows updates to see if this will help, but whenever I click on the button to update windows on the start menu, nothing happens. I tried searching for the program to see if I can open it another way, but can't find it. If I click on windows update and then nothing happened. I have windows vista home.

original title: I can't open windows update

Hey ElizabethSlater,

Try to run a full scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that nothing is found.

Try also to install the latest drivers from your computer manufacturer's website. If you have difficulty to locate the website of your computer manufacturer or the drivers on their page, please provide your computer brand and model in your next reply. If you have built your computer you need visit the site of the manufacturer of each piece of hardware to get the latest driver.

Once the drivers have been installed, try to restart your computer, and then test to see if the same problem occurs.

Hope that helps.

  • Important startup files deleted, now can't open Windows 7 Pro in SafeMode. Black screen

I'm a fool.  We have this fujitsu micro PC that my boyfriend has bought from her ex work.  I have my laptop, we need money, selling PC.  So I decided to try to clean it up and remove all personal stuff.  Not only has he deleted things that we obviously (I don't even know how much, but ms.configure - GONE) but then my boyfriend, also a fool, removed from the Recycle Bin.  Despite severe warnings to not be able to recover it again emptied.

We can now only open in safe mode, restore does not work if windows starts normally, its a black screen with a cursor nothing else.  As he bought a charge they were selling at his former place of work (and it has been created already) there is no installation disc even if we have stuff on a sticker inside windows product key.    I tried all the downloads, but they do not like the product key and I don't know what to do.  I contacted the buyer on Ebay who is happy to wait for it to be repaired, even though I have no idea what I'm doing.  It will not activate.

Can anyone help?  I know, I know, I'm a danger to myself and others :)

    Try this:

New computers that come pre-installed with Windows often have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For Fujitsu, press the F8 key directly after the power

    If the problem persists: '

To access the system recovery environment in Windows 7, simply start your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system. Press the [F8] key function 8 on your keyboard which will launch the menu Advanced Boot Options. You will see a new option "Repair your computer", select this option and press 'Enter' on your keyboard.

  • Cannot open windows 7 or safe mode or anything else!

I have a laptop Toshiba Pro/P300 newish supplied with Vista, but I, perhaps foolishly, had a 'real' copy of Windows 7 Home put on it. It worked fine for 2 years then it started crashing last month (save data of disc/so-called) every day, but recently he finally close completely and gave the following message. I have tried EVERYTHING to get into mode(cannot!) sure to get to the window (cannot!) of "repair". I tried F2, F8, F12, but it is always comes down to this message code and State. I can get into the screen (BIOS) of the establishment and have changed the 'Compatibility' thing, but it made no difference. Not sure if I can do something else in the establishment. I do not have the product recovery Toshiba DVD-ROM, Satellite Pro/P300, Microsoft Windows XP Prof - BUT I am desperate to try to recover the data (especially on the office) I try the XP disk, I WILL PROBABLY delete all THE data! If this work does the same! Is this correct? Is there a 'repair' function in the recovery disk that will save my data? What can I try recover data? Should I expect someone to do disk boot cd or something? Keep in mind I'm practically illiterate pc!

    Hope someone can help... soon!

Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software chance miht be the cause. To solve the problem:
    1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.

    3. click on "repair your computer." #

  • I can't get out of safe mode when starting, and can not run the Setup program from windows XP in safe mode.

I have a XP box that would only start in safe mode.  I needed to repair windows, so I started updating reinstall option but to reboot it says it cannot run in safe mode then it tries to boot into normal mode but crashes - which is what I am tring to solve.  Now I'm stuck because the computer is now making a loop and I'm stuck.  There is no available recovery console, it shows just the installation restart then goes into the shot.  If I try to launch safe mode, that it says cannot run update in safe mode then restarts in normal mode, which hangs then.  I'm stuck.  Boy the days where I wish I could just make the prompt C:\.  Thank you.

You can connect your problematic hard drive to another PC to copy your important data, using a device such as:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16812161002

    or

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16812119244

I'm still not 100% convinced that you boot from the CD. Your Dell has the option of F12 to select a boot real-time device (as soon as you turn on the PC)? Also, remember that you have to "press any key to boot from the CD" when you see this screen! Of course, during a reboot, you start from the hard drive.

Even if you did everything by the book, a repair installation could easily 'loop' as you describe. But as long as your hardware is healthy, a clean install is done.

It is recommended to perform the upgrade in normal mode, any problem with your PC freeze. It is best to update your Windows and also run Windows 7 upgrade advisor:

The problems and then start to upgrade to Windows 7, and before that close all applications you are running (if any).
