I can't ' play to ' work in Media Player 12

I can't ' play to ' to work. I have a home network with Windows 7 PCs (64 bit) 3 on it (two desktop and laptop). Network functions very well for file sharing, sharing printers and sharing of media files.
I store my media on a desktop computer and want to broadcast to the other two. I have all 3 media payers (V12) open, but nothing plays. From the office (with the media), when I use the button "play to", (after a considerable delay) he almost always says "device not responding". Once he showed the name of the remote computer in the upper part, but nothing has ever played. Yes, I clicked on the greyed the play down button.
Yes, I have a playlist ready to play. Yes, I read all the instructions on how to enable this in the help file Media Player. Yes, I have "Allow remote control of my player" checked in all media players.
I also see that "contacting the Media Server...". "rest in the box set.
But nothing never play on remote desktop or remote computer.
All I ever get is "device not responding".
I followed all the instructions written and have recently restarted all these machines.
I've used Windows since 3.0, so I'm not amateur. But I'm very frustrated by this problem.

third-party firewalls or AV?

you are a user with administrative privileges?

What router are you using?

have you disabled all windows services?

  • I can't play DVDs in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 Pro and get this error msg: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD drive decoder and video card protection.

Hello, thanks for reading and helping me.

I try to play a legitimate, belonging to DVD, but Windows Media Player 12 will not play on my computer Windows 7 Professional.  The DVD worked a few days ago, but all of a sudden, I get the following error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I did a lot of research of these forums and on the ' net.  Here are the suggested steps I tried without success:

    • I tried VLC player.  This works.  However, rather than use this workaround, I wish to find a solution to my problem WMP/WMC.
    • I tried several DVD for years over the last decade.  These DVD works on my laptop, also running Windows 7 Professional and the shark 007 codec.
    • I uninstalled my Shark 007 codec
    • I tried other codecs (K-Lite)
    • I assured that the latest drivers are installed on my video card, XFX ATI Radeon 5850
    • I tried to uninstall Nero 9
    • I tried to use the Windows 7 troubleshooting options:

    • > Windows Media Player DVD (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player Settings (detects a problem, wants to restore factory settings, every time, no matter what happens)
    • A system restore to a time when the DVD was working did not resolve the issue
    • The different links in Microsoft, I found in this forum about this problem do not seem to be useful.  There is a link that points to the set-top boxes, but this page just says: "Windows 7 comes with a decoder.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers Forum.
    Try disabling UAC.
If the problem handles Disabling UAC uninstall all third-party plugins or codecs, sounds like a WMP plant where he has no administrator rights.

    How to turn off UAC?
Click Start > Control Panel > accounts user and family safety > user accounts > select your username > then click on change user account control settings and uncheck the box. Restart your computer for this setting to take effect.

  • Windows Media Center won't play video, but Windows Media Player will be?

I'm reading a video .avi with the xvid codec. I installed the codec earlier and it plays fine in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play in Windows Media Center, it indicates that one or more codecs are required to play this file, but they cannot be found. I know I would just watch with Windows Media Player instead of Media Center, but I want to watch it on my Media Center extension (my Xbox). I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit. Why does Windows Media Player with this codec and Windows Media Center not work? How can I solve this problem?

    -Slick05_1

    Hi Slick05_1,

Thanks for the replies on the forum.

Given that the Microsoft Vista Media Center and XBOX do not play the files suggest it would need to be a codec which solves the problem or maybe file conversion which would solve the problems you are experiencing.  Since the codecs for files is not something written by Microsoft, we do not have the information for that in our system.

What I suggest is to go to your search engine preferred and in the search line and typing "is possible to play VLC on XBOX.

    WARNING:

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

What I suggest also done an online search using your favorite search engine for "play MKV files in Vista x 64 Media Center" to find whether there may be suggestions about codecs or these codecs created by other organizations then Microsoft.

Please let us know if you are able to get this to work for you.

    Best regards

    Hello

    Codecs: Frequently asked questions
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/codecs-frequently-asked-questions

All you need is good Codec

    Check here:

    Plug-ins for Windows Media Player
    http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx

    -------------------------------------------------------------

If 64 bits and you need codec.

Read this 1st and go that route, or use the one below. (Vista or Windows 7)

    http://www.Vistax64.com/sound-audio/152850-Vista-codec-pack-32bit-64bit-Media-Player-codecs.html

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

If 64-bit - can run WMP in 32 or 64 bit mode.

Or try these: download - SAVE - go to the place where your put them RIGHT CLICK – RUN AS ADMIN.

For 32-bit use these - OR the 32 bit ones listed above which I prefer.

K - Lite Codec Pack 10.0.0 (or newer)
    http://www.codecguide.com/

    Use them for 64-bit:

    K - Lite Codec Pack (64-bit) 10.0.0 (or newer)
    http://www.codecguide.com/

K - Lite now includes BOTH 32 and 64 bits in a single download installable.

Also look for updates, September 6, 2013, was K-Lite Codec Pack 10.0.3
Download and install it after the main program.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

You know that you use WMP 32 or 64

Change, modify or value 64-bit Windows Media Player 11 (WMP11) in Windows Vista x 64 as default (or WMP12 - Windows7)
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/01/19/switch-change-or-set-64-bit-Windows-Media-Player-11-WMP11-in-Windows-Vista-x64-as-default/

    -------------------------------------------------------------

And you can use it when necessary because no codex is usually required.

You must burn it to the correct Format.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/burn-a-CD-or-DVD

    Burn a CD or DVD

If your computer is equipped with a CD or DVD burner, you can copy files to a recordable disc. This process is called burning a disc. By default, Windows Burns discs in the active file system format, but you can also choose to burn discs in ISO image format.

Choose the size of the ISO image when you need a highly compatible disc that will play in computers with an older version of Windows or in devices such as CD and DVD players that can play video files and music digital. For more information about choosing a disc format
