To counter this, I enabled files and printers sharing on my printer to Windows 7 host operating system and then shared to the network. Then I went back to my XP virtual machine to activate the printer installation wizard to install a printer on a network. The installation wizard will search the shared network printers, but do not find anything. I have the opportunity to enter things like the address of the network printer and so on. But I have no idea what to conclude from these boxes.

  I did my best to make sure that the Windows 7 host operating system and the virtual XP machine are on the same network, which is a working group, not a homegroup. But I can have failed at that because I don't know much about networks.

  Solved. I already had the Brother printer to print on both sides by creating a new default setting. I solved the problem by changing the default setting to print on both sides - don't know why it worked but it didn't.
