  Win32/Sality.am is a variant of a family of polymorphic file Infecteurs.  This infection is particularly bad because it will infect essential Windows files and .exe files belonging to other software and applications and is not limited to infect just this specific file type.  Attempts to disinfect these files usually end up damaging.  Replacement usually does not either, because unless you can find and replace all at the same time, and there will be a lot of them, infection will recover and continue to spread.  The only way to rid your computer of this infection is to reformat and reinstall your Windows operating system.

  Do not attempt to back up and save anything, other than the documents and pictures.  Save other file types and return them to your computer may well lead to re-infect your newly cleaned system.

  Hello.

  In the search for the 'Bank' on my HP Pavilion (windows 8) recommended for Apps (for a free program 'type of office'), I seem to have carried over to downloaded a piece of malware called PC Optimizer Pro at the same time.

  I tried to add/remove software n my control panel and also followed some info I found online on the deletion of the registry files however, I'm not 100% convinced that it is all removed, especially since when I did try and delete the software from the control panel I found myself with 4 files namely;

  OptProReminder.exe and OptProCrash.dll OptProCrash_x64.dll OptProCrashSvc.dll

  When I try and delete these it is said that they are currently in use and cannot be deleted.

  Can anyone help please - a 'guide of the fool"appreciated not a computer boff

  I saw your post about the problem with PC Optimizer Pro. I found a link to a forum of the third when the user boopme recommend Revo Uninstaller Freeware that worked for the original poster. As the Revo is not software HP that I can't really recommend that and use it at your own risk. It just seems to be the only solution that I can't find where you don't have to download a bunch of questionable software.

  You should try to get him out. If you n t manage to pull him out with you fingers, you can use a pair of tweezers.

  As suggested Palcouk avoid "optimizers". Also to stay away from on the 'free' online virus scans, analyses of driver, registry cleaners and something similar who wish to access your machine in real time.

  For the most part all you need is to run Windows Disk Cleanup and do a casual drive defragment (don't defragment SSDS so, single drive type hard disks).
  For something a little more thorough you can use CCleaner (but do not use the registry cleaner - not necessary or desirable) CCleaner is open source (free).
  And if you need a bit more disk space to uninstall the software, you do not use.

  1. Yes, you can re - install Windows 8 on a different computer.  Before you re-install in another computer, please make sure that you remove Windows 8 to the computer that you have already installed software license terms Microsoft lets a copy must be installed on one computer only.
     To remove Windows 8 of the current computer, you must perform a clean installation of Windows 8. Install with previous operating system drive (Windows 7\ Vista\XP). This removes Windows 8 in the current computer and install the previous operating system.
     Note: You may lose all your data when you perform a new installation, so please back up all data before installing the previous operating system.
     Once you have removed Windows 8 from the current computer, download Windows 8 in the new computer and install.   2. As your second question, Windows 8.1 will be a free update for users of Windows 8. Which means, you must have a version of Windows 8 in order to install Windows 8.1.
