I can't run System Restore in my dell's PC

I have a new Dell laptop (5 months) with win 8 which has 500 GB total and have two partitions, C and E:

I tried to do a restore point, but that is the message I get:

Error Protection system:

The restore point impossible for the following reasons:

Enough storage to create a file copy storage shadow or other shadow copy data (0x8004231F).

Here's the breakdown of how my partitions are currently put up (by default):

System details:

intelCore i5 - 3210M CPU @2. 50 GHZ

Installed mem: 4 GB

System type: 64-bit win 8 OS, processor x64based

500 MB Healthy (EFI system partition)
40 MB Heathly (OEM partition)
500 healthy MB (recovery partition)

6.61 GB Healthy (recovery Partition)
OS (c :)) 234.69 GB NTFS healthy (boot, page file, crash dump, primary partition) - 56% free space)
Virtual (E): 222.69 GB NTFS healthy (Primary Partition) - 55% free space

NOTE: I have Norton 360 installed and running for 3 months now and I could only see a restore point created in February 2013.

After that, I have partition for installation of the virtual machine for SP 2010.

Here's what I'd do:

  1. Press + X to display a context menu, and then choose System.
  2. On the left, click System Protection.
  3. In the list of drives, make sure that all your partitions on startup and recovery oem are listed as "Off".  If they are, click on it and choose set up to turn it off.
  4. Click on apply to save your changes, and then try to do a restore point the top button once again.

Screen resolution refers to the clarity of the text and images on your screen. At higher resolutions, items appear sharper. They appear also smaller, so more items adapted to the screen. At lower resolutions, fewer items adapted to the screen, but they are larger and easier to see. At very low resolutions, however, images may have serrated edges.

  • After running System Restore my computer asks for a password when connecting and I don't remember the password.

I am running Vista Home Premium on a laptop Toshiba Satellite L305.  I ran the system restore due to a problem of "Internet Explorer cannot display the website" (by Microsoft troubleshooting guide for this problem) and selected restore point earlier.  Now the computer asks for a password that I don't remember.  I tried all the possible passwords I can think.   There is only a single user account on this computer.  The administrator account should be disabled, it is not an option when connecting safe mode.  I don't have a system repair disc set.   Is it possible to run the system back restore to select a more recent restore point which does not require a password?  Or y at - it another way to connect to the computer?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/undo-system-restore

If you tried to use the system restore to solve a problem, but the problem remained or other problems were introduced, you can undo the restore operation. After you cancel the system restore, you can try using a different restore point.

  • Cannot run system restore

I tried a few hours back to my lap top back to an earlier date using "System Restore". Every time it seems it will work, but it is not however there is an error code I have: oxcooooo22. I tried to search that with no luck at all. I wonder if I'm doing the right to the procedure. If someone would care to give me a hand I sure would appreciate it, I need a method step by step instructions, because I am a novice to this. Thanks in advance for your help and response.

    Sincerely

    Hello Gogo,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

This problem can occur because of damaged or missing Windows files, or as a result of a software conflict or drivers.

I suggest to do a restore of the system in safe mode and check if it helps.
    Reference:
Start your computer in safe mode
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=Windows-7

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

If this does not help, run the system file checker (SFC) and then try to restore Windows.
    Reference:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/929833

System File Checker is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.

Note: when you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

    I hope this information helps.

Please let us know if you need more help.

    Thank you

  • Can't do system restore to restore at all. What should I do to fix this?

I need help to get the system restore to work. It restores not to any restore point. How can I fix it?

If you have accidentally deleted data files system restore will not help you. System Restore is the registry settings to the previously selected.

Specifically, you cannot use the system with any Norton product restore, it's either or scenario.

This is workaround for Norton, but in an emergency, is not the kind of thing, I don't want to do. Like many others, I won't have any Norton product on my computer.

Safe mode is not likely to help, and system restore.

Your user profile is probably damaged and that Windows has created a new profile for you.  If you are looking into 'My Documents' or 'My images', your old files won't be there - they are in the old profile.  Do a search for your files.  If you find them, you can copy the entire profile.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151

    Hello

1 have you set Windows to automatically install updates?

    2. do you get an error message? If Yes, what is the full and exact error message?

    Method 1:

Check the link and try to run the troubleshooter to check if it helps.

    Method 2:

I suggest you to turn off the automatic update and restart the computer. See if you face the question:

Activate the update or disable automatic

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-automatic-updating-on-or-off

If the problem is resolved, try to install the updates manually one by one and restart the computer to see if an update is causing the problem.

  • Problems with the creative Cloud/Flash Professional? (Run system restore, Flash has been deleted...)

I did a system restore to restore my computer as it was 24 hours ago to solve PC problems (could not uninstall some programs that I was going to reinstall to resolve performance issues); I have three other my computer Adobe programs that are still there, but where the Flash was my latest acquisition, it was deleted when I performed the system restore. When I tried to re - download the program, CC still consider that Flash is still on my computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled CC, passed through the program files for traces of Flash (do not delete or change this either, but also did not find everything related to Flash), deleted the Temp folder, tried to download Flash Professional CC directly on the CC site, but none of them brought no change. Is there a way to manually download Flash, or "reset" CC to get the opinion of that Flash is no longer on my computer?

It seems that Vista is corrupt.  Would upgrading to Windows 7 support?

    hersheybar,
As TaurArian says he will probably not help.  You need to either fix Vista before the upgrade or you could do a clean install of Windows 7.  I recommend the clean install personally, start fresh. :)
