1. is the service pack 1 installed on your computer?
2 has there been recent changes made on the computer before the show?
Please follow the steps mentioned below and get back to us with the results.
Method 1: Temporary connection error may occur when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
Note: disable the Windows Firewall and antivirus may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers.
Method 2: I suggest you perform the clean boot and check.

Something happened when Windows Update downloaded a file of security on my Windows XP. I had to wipe and reload Windows XP SP2 and MS Office programs because of corruption. I had never problems with the Windows Update server to date. I tried the 'clean boot' instructions and followed the instructions forum MS for other alternatives, but I continue to receive two issues of the Server Windows Update error:
Error number: 0x8024400A error number: 0 x 80240036
In addition, "Mr. FixIt" could not be installed because it is dependent on the SP3. I don't know what else to try. Please notify. Thank you.
I think the first thing you could try would be to get your computer up to date if you can. You can download SP3 here.

Updates Service Pack XP (annot to connect to the server)
Only, I recharged my old PC with windows xp, but cannot get updates or Service Packs 1 or 3... I'm not an expert on rockets & try to understand ot he website is a pain... I went to the Download Center you are looking for the link (DOWNLOAD SERVICE PACK ISSUES) and could not find it. He said somting about downloading directly to the PC without having to be connected at install.because when I try it on the site, I get error messages (cannot CONNECT to the SERVER) I'm just trying to get the old PC running on all cylinders again but didn't know what I was getting in... Thanks Denny
I had the same problem.
It turns out that, SP1a, being a "Quick install" package, has no corresponding data on the Microsoft server.
This file, for some strange reason, which is still referenced and recommended by Windows Update.(At least for now), you must install Windows XP Service Pack 2 Package of Network Installation for developers and the professionals instead, in order to install the SP3 update.
It's just 266 MB download, not the download of 1 MB as downloads (nothing)... in order to install the download 544 MB.
I hope this helps!

no windows update support more is possible to install 2 and 3 and put sp1 at internet level exp.6 at 7 and 8, I can't do help
First - a tip - get hardware drivers with hardware manufacturers - not Microsoft.
Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).
Install it.
Reset.
Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Windows Update problem [error number: 0x8024400A]
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Frustration excels!... ""Error number: 0x8024400A "Message:
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below may help you solve the problem. For two days I tried to get downloaded SP3. I did a clean install then and tried a second time, no chance even result. I did one installs own before without any problem of MS.
I went through hoops to Microsoft a number of times, Windows Update, the 'Fixit' without success and tried SP3 downoads, one of 300 + MB, another 500 + and another of I believe was around 7 800 MB, not to mention the various links, but just seem to go along in a circle without solution. I tried to install SP3 several times, but after a while, the computer stops the download and I have to start over with the same results.
I have read many of the [error number: 0x8024400A] comments on here but none of the suggestions seem to work for me so far. I don't know, it's maybe just me in my frustration after so many hours trying to get this "thing" to work and just to be led by steps or by hand at this stage... Just do a climb the walls!
In desperation of cause and beyond frustration, I really hope someone can help out me of this mess is drowning. Thanks for your suggestions... Herb

You may be unable to access the Windows Update site...
You must be at Service Pack 3 level before you can use Windows updates.
To determine which service pack is currently installed on your computer, follow these steps:
- Click Startand then click run.
- Copy and paste, or type the following command, and then click OK:winver
A dialog box displays the version of Windows and the service pack that is currently installed on your computer.
If you haven't already done so, you will need to install the SP2 and SP3 (SP1 note no longer exists).
