  I had what I think, it was a false call of a man who sounded Indian and who claims to be a Microsoft technician. He was adamant I had a very infected computer and was desperate to make me sit in front of my computer and type something so he could show me how "corruption is gone." It sounded suspicious to me, especially since I have never contacted Microsoft and left a telephone number for anyone to contact me about anything whatsoever. Can someone tell me, Microsoft actually calls you suddenly like that? I do not know I already know the answer, I ask just confirmation for my own peace of mind. I hung on the man and did nothing (not even worth sitting in front of my computer) I thought it was ridiculous. However, I want quite a few comments. Thank you. Tom.

  Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

  I live in Switzerland, but am British and a mac user (no groans please) although I Mac office installed.
  In any case, tonight I received a call from an Asian woman of this phone number 00441865600154, the 1st time, I pressed the wrong button and cut them but they were recalled to work and she said she was from MS and my computer downloaded hacking software and had it flashed an alert at Microsoft. The line was very very bad and I've been cut called the number back and I just domestic type normal BT mail voice... scam or real?
  MS have the ability to track these things, and how they know my phone number to the House Switzerland?

  It is a scam, Microsoft does not call for end-users, because I don't think that they follow everyone. All calls more like this contempt please and offer the information for them. Total scam.

  They probably bought a list of phone numbers from somewhere or they get telephone directories in Europe. Not too sure about all other methods. That would be my guess.

  Anyone Windows Support would never call by claiming that your computer was sending error messages and they had the solution?  At one of them and sent him to the coast until I checked things. He gave the very plausible phone number, name and identification number.  Indian origin.

  No, he wanted me to 'download the software that would fix the problems' - as if!

  Immediately ran a full diagnosis just in case, as I was online at the time - own.

  I got a lot of good virus/spyware such as recommended by a friendly computer geek who works in our IT Department.

Just a warning do not allow access to your computer or give it to any password, etc..  They are just trying to sell technical support coverage.  This look like a call out of the country, based on the focus, etc.
