I have exactly the same problem

I tried the suggested corrections. Also, I went on YouTube and tried to change file extensions. Finally, I tried to do a system restore.

Finally, I had to call my Smart Tech guys to come home, they had to create a new account, Asmin, then restore to the only date. Which doesn't work anymore. Thank God, I use a C 6 clickfree backup drive model that is a snapshot of my OS and files. They used it to get me to the top.

They said that updates Microsoft (one or more of 24) caused. They reviewed updates and said no must have caused a problem, but doesn't. They also said that they see a lot of that with the Microsoft updates and software problems. Someone at Microsoft must get a handle on this and stop throwing garbage users before that Microsoft is in real trouble. The people won't put up with it long term. Garbage in, garbage out.  That thing cost me $150, and the number if lost hours sleep on my part, trying to fix it. Thank you for your e-mail.     If you cannot connect to your admin account, no tutorials can help you because they need you to connect to an administrator account to carry out the instructions.

    Go to Safe Mode...

    Restart your computer > immediately and repeatedly pressing the F8 key until you see a black and white screen. The top/down arrow and select Mode safe mode with networking.

    This also happened to me in another case. All local users are unable to connect they get this error. For example if I enable comments or create a local user account that is a member of the 'users' group I get this error when you connect using the accounts of the said that has been set with a blank password. However, I was able to use my administrator account to manage my machine. You probabbly deleted your permissions on the "C:\Users" folder or the root of the drive itself. If you have a local account, you can plug this hard drive into a computer with the same OS as slave then add "everyone" group with full control and select inherit permissions from parent.     The error message and the event log indicates that the problem is related to the ACPI driver. I suggest you reinstall the ACPI driver and check if you have the same problem. Here is a link I found on the Asus website support to download the ACPI driver:
